तीन प्रश्नों के उत्तर

अकबर - बीरबल की किस्से - कहानियां बहुत ही प्रचलित है। उन्हीं में से एक है - अकबर के प्रश्न और बीरबल के जवाब से जुड़े किस्से। अकबर के सवालों के सटीक जवाब बीरबल के पास होते थे। ऐसा ही एक किस्सा, जिसमें अकबर ने बीरबल से ईश्वर से जुड़े तीन सवाल पूछे थे। वह तीन सवाल थे -

ईश्वर कहां रहता है?
ईश्वर कैसे मिलता है?
ईश्वर क्या करता है?

तीन प्रश्नों के उत्तर - अकबर बीरबल की कहानियां

जब अकबर ने यह प्रश्न पूछे, तो बीरबल बहुत अचंभित हुए और उन्होंने कहा कि, इन प्रश्नों का उत्तर वह कल बताएंगे। यह कहकर बीरबल अपने घर को लौट आए। बीरबल इन प्रश्नों को लेकर बहुत चिंतित थे।

बीरबल के पुत्र ने चिंता का कारण पूछा। तब बीरबल ने अकबर के तीनों प्रश्नों के बारे में बताया। बीरबल के पुत्र ने कहा कि वह खुद कल दरबार में महाराज को इन तीनों प्रश्नों का जवाब देना चाहता है। अगले दिन बीरबल अपने पुत्र के साथ दरबार में जा पहुंचे और बादशाह अकबर से बोले कि आपके तीनों प्रश्नों का उत्तर मेरा पुत्र दे सकता है।

अकबर ने कहा ठीक है, चलो बताओ - "ईश्वर कहां रहता है?" इस प्रश्न के जवाब में बीरबल के पुत्र ने दूध मंगाया, जिसमे चीनी मिली हुई थी। उसने वह दूध अकबर को दिया और कहा चख कर बताइए दूध कैसा है? अकबर ने बताया कि दूध मीठा है। तब बीरबल के पुत्र ने कहा - "इसमें चीनी दिख रही है।" अकबर ने कहा - नहीं, इसमें चीनी तो नहीं दिख रही है। वह तो दूध में घुल गई है। बीरबल के पुत्र ने कहा, "जहांपनाह! ठीक इसी तरह ईश्वर भी संसार की हर चीज में घुला हुआ है, लेकिन दूध में घुली हुई चीनी की तरह दिखाई नहीं देता है। "

अकबर जवाब से संतुष्ट हो गए और उन्होंने दूसरा प्रश्न पूछा।

ईश्वर कैसे मिलता है?

इस प्रश्न का जवाब देने के लिए बीरबल के पुत्र ने दही मंगाया। बीरबल के पुत्र ने अकबर को दही देते हुए कहा, "जहांपनाह इसमें मक्खन दिखाई दे रहा है?" तब अकबर ने कहा, "दही में मक्खन तो है, लेकिन दही मथने पर ही मक्खन दिखाई देगा।"

बीरबल के पुत्र ने कहा - "जहांपनाह! ठीक इसी प्रकार ईश्वर भी मन का मंथन करने पर ही मिल सकते हैं। अकबर इस जवाब से भी संतुष्ट हो गए और उन्होंने तीसरा प्रश्न पूछा।

ईश्वर करता क्या है? बीरबल के पुत्र ने कहा - "जहांपनाह! इस प्रश्न के जवाब के लिए आपको मुझे गुरु मानना पड़ेगा।"

अकबर ने कहा - "ठीक है, अब से तुम मेरे गुरु और मैं तुम्हारा शिष्य।" बीरबल के पुत्र ने कहा गुरु हमेशा ऊंचे स्थान पर बैठता है और शिष्य हमेशा नीचे बैठता है। अकबर तुरंत ही अपने सिंहासन से उठ गए और बीरबल के पुत्र को सिंहासन पर बैठा कर खुद नीचे बैठ गए। सिंहासन पर बैठते बीरबल के पुत्र ने कहा, "जहांपनाह! यही आपके तीसरे प्रश्न का जवाब है। ईश्वर राजा को रंक बनाता है और रंक को राजा बना देता है। अकबर इस जवाब से भी संतुष्ट हो गए।

Akbar said okay, let's tell - "Where does God live?" In response to this question, Birbal's son asked for milk, in which sugar was mixed. He gave that milk to Akbar and said, taste it and tell how is the milk? Akbar told that milk is sweet. Then Birbal's son said - "Chinese is visible in it." Akbar said - No, there is no sugar in it. It has dissolved in milk. Birbal's son said, "Jahanpanah! In the same way God is dissolved in everything in the world, but does not appear like sugar dissolved in milk."

Akbar was satisfied with the answer and asked another question.

How do you find God?

To answer this question Birbal's son asked for curd. Birbal's son while giving curd to Akbar said, "Is there butter in Jahanpanah?" Then Akbar said, "There is butter in curd, but butter will be visible only when curd is churned."

Birbal's son said - "Jahanpanah! In the same way God can be found only after churning the mind. Akbar was satisfied with this answer also and asked the third question.

What does God do? Birbal's son said - "Jahanpanah! To answer this question you will have to accept me as your guru."

Akbar said - "Okay, from now on you are my master and I am your disciple." Birbal's son said that the guru always sits at the highest place and the disciple always sits at the bottom. Akbar immediately got up from his throne and seated Birbal's son on the throne and sat down himself. Birbal's son sitting on the throne said, "Jahanpanah! That is the answer to your third question. God makes a king a rank and a rank to a king. Akbar was satisfied with this answer as well."

एक बार बादशाह अकबर की बेगम ने उन्हें बीरबल को मजाक ही मजाक में मात देने की एक तरकीब सुझाई। तरकीब बादशाह को बेहद पसंद आई और उन्होंने तुरंत उस पर अमल करने का मन बना लिया।

उस दिन बीरबल के दरबार में आने के पहले ही उन्होंने सभी दरबारियों में एक-एक अंडा बाँट दिया और उन्हें उन अंडों को अपने कपड़ों में छिपा लेने का निर्देश दिया।

जब बीरबल आ गए तो बादशाह ने कहा,"कल मैंने सपने में देखा कि मेरे दरबार में एक हैरतअंगेज कारनामा होने वाला है। जो दरबारी मेरे लिए वफादार हैं, आज वे अंडे देंगे।"

इसलिए मैं चाहता हूँ कि सभी दरवारी आज दरबार में अंडा देकर मेरे लिए अपनी वफादारी साबित करें। जो अंडा नहीं दे सका, उसे अपने फर्ज से डिगा हुआ समझा जायेगा। बादशाह की बात सुनते ही सभी दरबारी अपने कपड़ों से अंडे निकालकर खड़े हो गए।

बीरबल यह देखकर बड़ी हैरत में थे। वे समझ गए थे कि बादशाह ने उन्हें मात देने के लिए ही यह सब स्वांग रचा है। वे तुरंत बोले, "जहांपनाह, मुझे यह बताते हुए बड़ा अफसोस है कि मैं अंडा नहीं दे सकूँगा।

इसका कारण यही है कि सिर्फ मुर्गियाँ ही अंडे दे सकती हैं, मुर्गे नहीं। आप मुझे मुर्गा मान लीजिए। बीरबल की बात सुनकर वहाँ मौजूद हाथ में अंडा लिए खड़े सभी दरबारी शर्मिदा हो गए और इधर उधर एक दूसरे को झाँकने लगे। बादशाह भी हँसने लगे और बोले,"बीरबल तुम्हें मात देना किसी के बस की बात नहीं।

एक बार बादशाह अकबर के कुछ दरबारी इकट्ठा होकर उनके पास जाकर बोले, “जहांपनाह, हम लोग इस बात से बहुत परेशान हैं कि बीरबल की तुलना में आप हम लोगों को कोई इज्जत नहीं देते।”

“हाँ, इसमें शक की तो कोई बात ही नहीं है कि बीरबल हमारी हुकूमत के सभी मंत्रियों में सबसे तेज दिमाग वाला है। वह हुकूमत में आने वाली सभी मुश्किलों को बड़ी आसानी और होशियारी से निपटाता है।

यही वजह है कि मैं बीरबल पर इतना भरोसा करता हूँ।” बादशाह ने पूरे विश्वास के साथ उत्तर दिया। “ऐसा कुछ भी तो नहीं है, जहांपनाह, ने बीरबल कर सकता है और हम नहीं।

आप बस एक मौका हमें दें, जिससे हम अपनी काबिलियत साबित कर सकें।” “बहुत अच्छा,” बादशाह ने कहा। अकबर के हामी भरने के पीछे उनका यह विचार था कि इससे दरबारियों को पता चल जाएगा कि वे कितने पानी में हैं।

अब तुम लोग कुछ ऐसा करो, जिससे न तो मेरा सिर और न ही मेरे पैर कम्बल के बाहर रहें। दरबारियों ने तुरंत अपनी बुद्धि का प्रयोग करना आरम्भ कर दिया।

परंतु सब बेकार था! बुद्धि जब हो, तभी तो कोई हल निकले। एक ने आगे बढ़कर कम्बल को बादशाह के सिर तक खींचा। ऐसे में सिर तो कम्बल से ढक गया, परंतु पॉव कम्बल से बाहर हो गए।

दूसरे दरबारी ने कम्बल को पाँव तक खींच दिया, लेकिन ऐसे में बादशाह का सिर बाहर आ गया। अंतत: हार मानते हुए उन्होंने एक मत से निर्णय दिया कि इस कम्बल से बादशाह को पूरा-पूरा ढक पाना असम्भव है।

अकबर मंद-मंद मुस्कुराने लगे। उन्होंने अपने एक सेवक को बुलाकर बीरबल को ले आने को कहा। जब बीरबल उपस्थित हुए तो बादशाह ने वही समस्या उनके सामने भी रखी।

बीरबल ने भी निरीक्षण करके यही पाया कि कम्बल बादशाह के शरीर की लम्बाई से कुछ छोटा था। परन्तु बीरबल के पास तो सभी समस्याओं का समाधान पहले से ही मौजूद रहता था।

उन्होंने अकबर से अपने पैर कुछ मोड़ने को कहा। अब कम्बल ने बादशाह को पूरा ढक लिया था। “जहांपनाह, आप अपने पैरों को कम्बल के भीतर ही रखें।”

बीरबल ने बादशाह से निवेदन किया। इस प्रकार समस्या का समाधान हो चुका था। फिर बीरबल बादशाह से आज्ञा लेकर वहाँ से चले गए। बीरबल के जाने के बादशाह बिस्तर से उठते हुए दरबारियों से बोले, “अब तक तो तुम लोग समझ चुके होगे, या अब भी समझाने की जरूरत रह गई है कि मैंने बीरबल को इतना बड़ा पद क्यों दिया है?” बादशाह की बात सुनकर दरबारियों ने अपने सिर शर्म से झुका लिए।

But it was all in vain! When there is intellect, only then can a solution come out. One stepped forward and pulled the blanket up to the king's head. In such a situation, the head was covered with a blanket, but the paws were out of the blanket.

The second courtier pulled the blanket up to his feet, but the king's head came out. Finally, giving up, he decided with one vote that it is impossible to cover the emperor completely with this blanket.

Akbar smiled softly. He called one of his servants and asked them to bring Birbal. When Birbal appeared, the emperor put the same problem in front of him.

Birbal also inspected the same and found that the blanket was slightly shorter than the length of the emperor's body. But Birbal already had the solution to all the problems.

He asked Akbar to bend his legs a little. Now the blanket had completely covered the emperor. “Jahanpanah, you keep your feet inside the blanket.”

Birbal requested the emperor. Thus the problem was solved. Then Birbal left from there after taking permission from the emperor. After Birbal's departure, the king got up from the bed and said to the courtiers, "By now you must have understood, or is there still a need to explain why I have given such a high position to Birbal?" Hearing the king's words, the courtiers bowed their heads in shame.

एक दिन बादशाह अकबर सारा कामकाज निपटाने के बाद मनोरंजन की मुद्रा में बैठे हुए थे। लेकिन बीरबल ऐसे वातावरण में भी शांत बैठे थे। उस दिन वे हँसी-मजाक में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं ले रहे थे।

बीरबल के बिना बादशाह की महफिल पूरी कैसे होती? इसलिए उन्हें उकसाने की दृष्टि से बादशाह ने उन्हें छेड़ा, “बीरबल, जरा यह बताओ कि तुममें और गधे में कितना अंतर है?”

ईर्ष्यालु दरवारियों ने बादशाह का सवाल सुनकर ठहाके लगाने शुरू कर दिए। उधर बीरबल कहाँ चुप रहने वाले थे। उन्होंने चुपचाप अपना सिर नीचे झुका लिया जैसे भूमि की ओर देखते हुए कुछ गणना कर रहे हों।

उनकी मुद्रा बड़ी गम्भीर थी और वे अपने हाथों पर कुछ गिनती कर रहे थे। “क्या गिनती कर रहे हो, बीरबल?” अकबर ने थोड़ी हँसी के साथ पूछा।

“मैं अपने और गधे के बीच की दूरी पता करने की कोशिश रहा था मैंने गिनती कर ली है,” बीरबल ने अपनी दृष्टि अकबर की ओर उठाते हुए कहा, “यह कोई सोलह फीट जान पड़ती है।” इस उत्तर पर अकबर अत्यंत लज्जित हो गए और कुछ देर तक दृष्टि ऊपर न कर सके।

दरअसल बीरबल ने अकबर के सिंहासन के सामने खड़े होकर उनके और अपने बीच की दूरी बताई थी। इस प्रकार बीरबल ने बादशाह द्वारा किए गए मजाक को उन्हीं पर पलट दिया।

“I was trying to find the distance between myself and the donkey, I have counted it,” said Birbal, lifting his gaze towards Akbar, “it looks like some sixteen feet.” Akbar became very ashamed on this answer and could not look up for a while.

Actually Birbal stood in front of Akbar's throne and told the distance between him and himself. Thus Birbal turned the joke made by the emperor on him.

एक बार बादशाह अकबर दरबार में बैठे-बैठे ऊब रहे थे। दरबार के सभी काम निपटाकर उनके दरबारी भी आराम की मुद्रा में बैठे थे ऐसे में बादशाह अकबर कोई ऐसी बात जरूर छेड़ देते थे, जिससे दरबार का माहौल खुशगवार हो गए। इसी इरादे से उन्होंने दरबारियों से एक प्रश्न किया, “वह कौन सी चीज है जो सबसे ज्यादा चमकीली है?” जिसकी समझ में जैसा आया, उसने वैसा ही उत्तर दिया।

किसी ने कहा कि दूध सबसे अधिक चमकीला होता है। वहीं कुछ लोगों ने कहा कि रुई सबसे ज्यादा चमकीली होती है। सभी लोग अपनी-अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार उत्तर दे रहे थे।

आश्चर्य की बात यह थी कि सबसे अधिक बुद्धिमान समझे जाने वाले बीरबल अभी तक चुपचाप अपनी जगह बैठे हुए तमाशा देख रहे थे। जब अकबर की नजर बीरबल पर पड़ी, तो उन्होंने उनसे पूछा,

“तुम्हारा क्या कहना है, बीरबल? सभी लोग अपनी अपनी बात कह रहे हैं, फिर तुम क्यों चुप हो?” “मेरे ख्याल से सूरज की रोशनी दूसरी सभी चीजों से कहीं ज्यादा चमकीली होती है।”

बीरबल ने उत्तर दिया। “क्या तुम अपनी बात साबित कर सकते हो?” बादशाह अकबर ने पूछा। “हाँ, मैं कर सकता हूँ।” बीरबल बोले। दूसरे दिन बीरबल ने अकबर को अपने घर रात भर ठहरने के लिए आमंत्रित किया।

अकबर बीरबल को अपने घर के सदस्य जैसा ही मानते थे, अत: उन्होंने बीरबल का यह निमंत्रण बेझिझक स्वीकार कर लिया और उनके यहाँ रहने चले गए। खाने के बाद बीरबल अकबर को शयनकक्ष में ले गए।

शयनकक्ष को शहंशाह के लिए खासतौर पर सजाया गया था। खुशबूदार इत्रों की वजह से कमरा इतना महक रहा था कि अकबर को तुरंत नींद आ गई।

सुबह जब वे उठे, तो उन्होंने पाया कि शयनकक्ष के सभी दरवाजे व खिड़कियाँ बंद थीं तथा वे घोर अंधकार में खड़े थे। वे अनुमान से द्वार की ओर बढ़े।

तभी उनका पैर किसी वस्तु से टकराया। परंतु अंधेरा होने के कारण वे उस वस्तु को देख नहीं पाए। मुश्किल से टटोलते हुए गिरते पड़ते वे दरवाजे तक पहुँच सके।

उन्होंने जब द्वार खोला तो सूर्य की किरणें कमरे में आने लगीं। उन्होंने पीछे मुड़कर देखा तो पाया कि वे एक दूध से भरे कटोरे से टकरा गए थे। पास ही कुछ रुई भी पड़ी थी। अकबर अभी स्थिति को समझने की कोशिश कर रहे थे कि तभी वहाँ बीरबल ने प्रवेश किया।

“यह सब क्या हो रहा है? कमरे के सारे दरवाजे और खिड़कियाँ किसने बंद कर दिए थे? अंदर इतना घना अंधेरा छा गया था कि हाथ को हाथ नहीं सूझ रहा था।

मुझे तो दरवाजे तक पहुँचना भी मुश्किल हो गया था। किसी तरह टटोल-टटोलकर दरवाजे तक आ सका।” बादशाह ने आश्चर्यपूर्वक पूछा। “जहांपनाह, दरवाजे और खिड़कियाँ मैंने बंद किए थे।” बीरबल ने उत्तर दिया।

बीरबल के इस उत्तर पर बादशाह को कुछ गुस्सा आ गया। उन्हें बीरबल से ऐसी आशा कदापि न थी। “इस हरकत की वजह?” उन्होंने अपना गुस्सा दबाने की कोशिश करते हुए पूछा।

“जहांपनाह, जब अंधेरा था, तब आप दूध और रुई के होते हुए भी कमरे में कुछ भी देखने में नाकामयाब रहे थे। आप तभी देख सके, जब सूरज की रोशनी अंदर आने लगी। अब आप ही बताइए कि सबसे ज्यादा चमकीली चीज कौन सी होती है?”

अकबर को यह समझते देर नहीं लगी कि बीरबल ने यह नाटक अपनी बात को सिद्ध करने के लिए ही किया है। “मैं तुम्हारी बात समझ गया, बीरबल, कि सूरज की रोशनी से ज्यादा चमकीली चीज दुनिया में दूसरी नहीं है।

परन्तु यह समझाने के लिए तुमने मुझे बहुत तकलीफ में डाल दिया था। आगे से अपनी बात साबित करने के लिए थोडा सरल रास्ता अपनाना, जिससे ऐसी दिक्कत न हो।” अकबर ने कहा। बीरबल ने मस्कराते हए हामी भर दी।

Someone said that milk is the brightest. At the same time some people said that cotton is the brightest. All the people were answering according to their intelligence.

The surprising thing was that Birbal, considered the most intelligent, was still watching the spectacle sitting quietly in his place. When Akbar looked at Birbal, he asked him,

"What do you say, Birbal?" Everybody is saying their own thing, then why are you silent? " "I think sunlight is brighter than all other things."

Birbal replied. "Can you prove your point?" Emperor Akbar asked. "Yes, I can." Birbal said. The next day Birbal invited Akbar to stay at his house overnight.

Akbar considered Birbal as a member of his household, so he hesitantly accepted Birbal's invitation and went to live with him. After eating Birbal took Akbar to the bedroom.

The bedroom was specially decorated for the emperor. The room was smelling so much because of the aromatic perfumes that Akbar immediately fell asleep.

When they woke up in the morning, they found that all the doors and windows of the bedroom were closed and they were standing in utter darkness. They proceeded towards the door with anticipation.

That is when his foot hit some object. But due to the darkness, they could not see the object. He was barely able to reach the door.

When he opened the door, the rays of the sun started coming into the room. He looked back and found that he had crashed into a bowl full of milk. There was also some cotton nearby. Akbar was still trying to understand the situation when Birbal entered there.

"What is going on?" Who had closed all the doors and windows of the room? There was such a dark darkness inside that the hand was not feeling.

I even found it difficult to reach the door. Somehow, by groping, he could come to the door. The king asked wonderfully. "Where the walls, doors and windows were, I closed." Birbal replied.

The emperor got angry on Birbal's reply. He never had such hope from Birbal. "The reason for this action?" He asked while trying to suppress his anger.

"Jahanpanah, when it was dark, you had failed to see anything in the room despite milk and cotton." You could see only when the sunlight started coming in. Now you tell me what is the brightest thing? "

It did not take long for Akbar to understand that Birbal had done this drama only to prove his point. "I understand you, Birbal, that nothing brighter than sunlight is second in the world."

बीरबल बोले, “जहांपनाह, आपके सवाल का जवाब तुरंत देना मुमकिन नहीं है। मुझे कुछ वक्त दीजिए। मैं ठीक वक्त पर आपकी बात का माकूल जवाब दूंगा।”

बादशाह हँस दिए। वैसे भी वे अपनी बात को लेकर गम्भीर नहीं थे। बीरबल ने बादशाह के सामने अपने बात स्पष्ट करने के लिए एक योजना बनाई।

वे एक मूर्तिकार के पास पहुंचे और उसे बादशाह के पोते खुर्रम की एक मोम की मूर्ति बनाने को कहा। बादशाह को खुर्रम से बहुत प्रेम था। मूर्ति तैयार हो जाने पर वे उसे लेकर बादशाह के महल में जा पहुँचे और उनके नौकरों से उस मूर्ति को खुर्रम के कपड़े पहना देने को कहा। नौकरों ने तुरंत बीरबल की आज्ञा पर अमल किया।

अब कोई भी अगर दूर से खर्रम की उस मूर्ति को देखता, तो उसे असली खुर्रम ही समझता। फिर बीरबल ने नौकरों को कुछ सलाह दी। अगले दिन बीरबल बादशाह के साथ शाही बगीचे में टहलने गए।

जैसे ही वे झील के पास आए, बीरबल ने नौकर को संकेत किया। उस मूर्ति को लेकर छिपे बैठे नौकर ने तुरंत ही वह मूर्ति झील के पानी में फेंक दी। बादशाह को दूर से देखकर ऐसा लगा, जैसे उनका पोता खुर्रम ही झील में गिर गया हो।

एक भी पल इंतजार किए बिना बादशाह भागते हुए आगे बढे और उन्होंने झील में छलांग लगा दी। जब वे तेजी से तैरते हुए उस जगह पर पहुंचे, तो पाया कि वह तो एक मूर्ति है।

तब तक बीरबल भी वहाँ आ गए थे। बीरबल की मदद से बादशाह झील के बाहर निकल आए। तभी बीरबल उनसे पूछ बैठे, “जहांपनाह, आपके पास नौकरों की कोई कमी तो है नहीं।

फिर इस मूर्ति को गिरते देखकर आपने पानी में खुद छलांग क्यों लगा दी? आपको खुद पानी में कूद जाने की क्या जरूरत थी?” “क्या बात कर रहे हो, बीरबल?” बादशाह बोले, “खुर्रम हमारा प्यारा पोता है।
