चौथ का चांद

अकबर बीरबल एक बार ईरान की यात्रा पर निकले। वहां वह एक नवाब के मेहमान बन कर कुछ दिन के लिए रुके।  नवाब ने उनकी खूब खातिरदारी की। कुछ दिन बीतने के पश्चात अकबर और बीरबल वापस लौटने लगे। तब नवाब ने बीरबल को चतुर जानकर एक टेढ़ा सवाल किया। 

उन्होंने पूछा," मेरे एक सवाल का जवाब दोगे? अपने शहंशाह और मेरी तारीफ एक साथ कैसे करोगे ?"

बीरबल थोड़ा सोच में पड़ गए। फिर उनकी अक्ल के ताले खुल गए और उन्होंने जवाब दिया," आप दोनों ही चांद हैं जनाब, मेरे शहंशाह हैं चौथ का चांद तो आप हैं पूरा चांद।"

जवाब सुनकर ईरान के नवाब बेहद खुश हो गए। 

लेकिन अकबर उस समय कुछ ना बोले, गुमसुम हो गए। रास्ते भर अकबर बीरबल से बेहद खफा रहे। उन्हें समझ में नहीं आ रहा था कि बीरबल ने ऐसा क्यों किया ? अकबर की नाराजगी को बीरबल ताड़ गए। क्यों है शहंशाह खफा ? उसका कारण भी जान गए। 

बीरबल बोले," महाराज आप कुछ सोच रहे हैं ? या फिर मन ही मन मुझे कोस रहे हैं। इसमें परेशान होने वाली कोई बात नहीं है। मैं आपको सच बताता हूं। आपकी तरक्की के बारे में ही मैं हर वक्त सोचता रहता हूं। मैंने नवाब को  पूरा चांद कहा, जो धीरे-धीरे घटने लगता है। पर आपको मैंने 'चौथ का चांद' बताया, जो हर रात बढ़ता है और बढ़ता है और उसका मान भी बढ़ता है। "

आप तो बढ़ते ही जाएंगे और जगह-जगह अपना मकाम बनाएंगे। अब कहिए तो सही मैंने कौन सी गलती गलत बात कही है?

बीरबल की बात सुनकर अकबर मुस्कुरा दिए। एक बार फिर बीरबल की अक्ल का लोहा मान गए।

Chauth ka Chand

Akbar Birbal once set out on a trip to Iran. There he stayed for a few days as a guest of a Nawab. The Nawab took good care of him. After a few days, Akbar and Birbal started returning. The Nawab then asked Birbal a clever question, considering him clever.

He asked, "Will you answer one of my questions? How would you praise your emperor and me together?"

Birbal got into a little thinking. Then his wisdom locks opened and he replied, "Both of you are moon, my emperor is Chauth's moon, you are full moon."

The Nawab of Iran was overjoyed to hear the answer.

But Akbar did not say anything at that time, he became angry. Akbar remained extremely angry with Birbal all the way. He could not understand why Birbal did this. Birbal went to Akbar's displeasure. Why is emperor angry? He also knows the reason for that.

Birbal said, "Maharaj, are you thinking something? Or else I am cursing my mind. There is nothing to be disturbed. I tell you the truth. I keep thinking about your progress all the time. 

He called the Nawab full moon, which gradually decreases. But I told you 'Chauth ka Chand', which grows and grows every night and its value also increases. "
