तारों की गिनती

एक रात बादशाह अकबर अपने महल के झरोखे में खड़े हुए थे। आसमान में चांद खिला हुआ था और सितारे भी चमक रहे थे।

तभी बादशाह अपनी धुन में बीरबल से पूछ पड़े, 'बीरबल, क्या तुम मुझे आसमान में तारों की सही गिनती बता सकते हो?'

'बिल्कुल जहांपना', बीरबल तुरंत बोले, "आसमान में उतने ही तारे हैं, जितने कि एक घोड़े के सिर पर बाल होते हैं।"

'घोड़े के सिर पर तो अनगिनत बाल होते हैं।' जहांपना अकबर ने बोला।

बीरबल ने जवाब दिया, "हुजूर, मैं भी तो वही कह रहा हूं। तारे भी आसमान में अनगिनत ही है।" बीरबल का सटीक जवाब सुनकर बादशाह भौचक्के रह गए। फिर भी हंसते हुए बोले, "बीरबल, हाजिर जवाबी मैं तुम्हारा कोई सानी नहीं। चिराग लेकर ढूंढने पर भी तुम्हारे जैसा दिमागदार कोई नहीं मिलेगा।"

Count of star

One night Emperor Akbar stood in the window of his palace. The moon blossomed in the sky and the stars were shining as well.

Then the king asked Birbal in his tune, 'Birbal, can you tell me the exact count of stars in the sky?'

'Absolutely Jahanpana', Birbal immediately said, "There are as many stars in the sky as there are hairs on a horse's head."

"There are countless hairs on a horse's head." Jahapana Akbar spoke.

Birbal replied, "Huzoor, I am saying the same thing. The stars are countless in the sky." On hearing Birbal's exact answer, the king was left to the eater. Still said with a laugh, "Birbal, I am no match to you in the spot. I will find no one like you, even if you search with a lamp."
