तलवार की कीमत

बीरबल के घर के पास ही किसी बुढ़िया का मकान था। एक दिन बीरबल ने बुढ़िया के जोर जोर से रोने की आवाज सुनी। बीरबल के पता करने पर उन्हें पता मालूम हुआ कि बुढ़िया का जवान बेटा लड़ाई में मारा गया है। बीरबल ने भी उस औरत से मुलाकात करके उसके प्रति अपनी सहानुभूति व्यक्त की।

बुढ़िया बोली - "मेरा बेटा अपनी तनख्वाह का आधा हिस्सा मुझे देता था। उसी से मेरा घर चलता था। अब तो मेरे लिए भुखमरी की स्थिति पैदा हो जाएगी।"

बीरबल कुछ विचार करके उससे बोले - "क्या तुम्हारे पास कोई ऐसी वस्तु है जो तुम बादशाह सलामत को दे सको।

बुढ़िया ने जवाब दिया - मेरे पास तो एक पुरानी तलवार के अलावा कुछ भी नहीं है। वह तलवार भी मेरे बेटे की है।

बीरबल ने कहा - वह तलवार दरबार में ले जाकर बादशाह सलामत को तोहफे में दे दो। इसके बदले में जरूर तुम्हें कुछ उपहार देंगे।

बुढ़िया ने वैसा ही किया जैसा बीरबल ने उससे कहा था। अगले दिन वह दरबार में पहुंची और तलवार को दोनों हाथों पर रखकर बोली - "जहांपनाह मेरा बेटा आप की फौज में काम करता था। मैं यह तलवार आपको देना चाहती हूं, जिससे यह फिर आप के काम आ सके।"

बादशाह ने वह तलवार अपने हाथ में लेकर गौर से देखते हुए कहा - इसमें तो जंग लग गई है। अब यह किसी काम का नहीं रहा फिर भी बादशाह ने एक नौकर से उस बुढ़िया को खजाने से कुछ दिलवा देने को कहा।

बीरबल जानते थे कि वह धन बुढ़िया के लिए काफी नहीं होगा। जहांपनाह क्या यह तलवार मुझे देखने का मौका देंगे? बीरबल यह कहते हुए तलवार अपने हाथों में ले लिए और बड़ी हैरत का भाव दर्शाते हुए उसे देखने लगे। क्या हुआ तुम्हें इतनी हैरत किस बात से हो रही है? बादशाह ने बड़े आश्चर्य से पूछा।

बीरबल बोले - "मैंने सुना है कि बादशाह सलामत के किसी चीज को छू देने पर वह चीज सोने की बन जाती है मुझे हैरानी है कि इस बार ऐसा क्यों नहीं हुआ।"

बादशाह बीरबल का भावार्थ समझ गए। उन्होंने एक नौकर को उस तलवार को सोने के सिक्कों में तोलने और वह सिक्के उस बुढ़िया को दे देने का हुक्म दिया। सिक्के को लेकर बुढ़िया खुशी-खुशी अपने घर लौट गई।

There was an old man's house near Birbal's house. One day Birbal heard the voice of the old lady crying loudly. Upon discovering Birbal, he came to know that the old son's old son has been killed in the fight. Birbal also met the woman and expressed her sympathy to him.

The old lady did as Birbal told her. The next day she reached the court and placed the sword on both hands and said - "Where my son used to work in your army. I want to give this sword to you, so that it can work for you again."

The king took that sword in his hand and looked at it carefully and said - there has been a war in it. Now it was of no use, yet the emperor asked a servant to get the old lady something from the treasury.

Birbal knew that that money would not be enough for the old lady. Where will this sword give me a chance to see? Saying this, Birbal took the sword in his hands and started looking at it, showing a sense of surprise. What happened to you, why are you so surprised? The king asked with great surprise.

Birbal said - "I have heard that when King Salamat touches something, it becomes gold. I wonder why it did not happen this time."

The Emperor understood the meaning of Birbal. He ordered a servant to weigh that sword in gold coins and give the coin to that old lady. The old lady happily returned to her home with the coin.
