सिगबिन (Sigbin) या सिगबेन (Sigben), फिलीपीन पौराणिक कथाओं में एक ऐसा प्राणी है, जिसके बारे में कहा जाता है कि वह रात में खून चूसने के लिए बाहर आता है। बकरी और/या कंगारू जैसा। चेहरा चमगादड़ जैसा दिखता है.. लंबे नुकीले दांत, लाल आँखें। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि यह अपने पिछले पैरों के बीच अपना सिर झुकाकर पीछे की ओर चलता है और अन्य प्राणियों, विशेष रूप से मनुष्यों के लिए अदृश्य होने (छिपने) की क्षमता रखता है। यह सींग रहित बकरी जैसा दिखता है, लेकिन इसके कान बहुत बड़े होते हैं। इसकी लंबी, लचीली पूंछ होती है, जिसे यह चाहें तो चाबुक की तरह इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं। कहा जाता है कि सिगबिन एक उल्टी करने वाली गंध छोड़ता है।

किंवदंती के अनुसार, सिगबिनन (जो सिगबिन के मालिक हैं) के रूप में जाने जाने वाले परिवार हैं, जिनके सदस्यों के पास इन प्राणियों को नियंत्रित करने की शक्ति है और कहा जाता है कि वे सिगबिन को मिट्टी के बने बर्तनों में रखते हैं। कहा जाता है कि असवांग उन्हें पालतू जानवर के रूप में रखते हैं। ऐसी अटकलें हैं कि यह किंवदंती शायद किसी ऐसी वास्तविक पशु प्रजाति के देखे जाने पर आधारित हो, जिसे शायद ही कभी देखा जाता है। लोकप्रिय साहित्य में सिगबिन के वर्णन के आधार पर यह पशु कंगारू प्रजाति से संबंधित हो सकती है।

Sigbin

The Sigbin or Sigben is a creature in Philippine mythology that is said to come out at night to suck blood. Goat and/or kangaroo-like. Face resembles a bat.. long pointed teeth, red eyes. It is said to walk backwards with its head tucked between its hind legs and has the ability to become invisible (hide) to other creatures, especially humans. It resembles a hornless goat but with much larger ears. It has a long, flexible tail that it can use as a whip if it wishes. The Sigbin is said to give off a nauseating odor.

According to legend, there are families known as the Sigbinan (those who own the Sigbin), whose members have the power to control these creatures and are said to keep the Sigbin in earthenware pots. The Aswang are said to keep them as pets. There is speculation that the legend may be based on a sighting of a real animal species that is rarely seen. Based on the description of the sigbin in popular literature, the animal may be related to the kangaroo species.

This myth is popular in the Visayas Islands and Mindanao, especially in rural areas. It is also said that it resembles a dog and is owned by wealthy people.

Other theories suggest that the sigbin may be a stray species of Macropodidae that lives in solitude and arrived in the Philippines from Australia millions of years ago due to migration. It was often described by some as reddish-brown in color, suggesting that it may be a red kangaroo, although the diet of the sigbin and the kangaroo is not very similar as the kangaroo is a herbivore.

The sigbin is a creature that is considered a rare kind of animal, which lives in the jungle of the south of the Philippines. According to some researchers, they have found a creature like "Sigbin" or cat-fox in Borneo, it is carnivorous, so it only hunts animals or humans. However, researchers/scientists are still continuing their research about this rare type of animal. But till date there is no pure proof of their existence.
