Owlman

"Owlman" This strange, mysterious and terrifying creature was first claimed to be seen in 1976 in the Mawnan Cornwall areas of Britain. Some people saw this Mavnan flying over the church tower.

Then after one and a half to two years it was seen again near the church in August 1978. It is believed that this creature looked like an owl. Hence it was named "Owlman" since then. Its height was equal to that of a human being, its ears were pointed, its eyes were red, its claws were black and its wings were grey. The Owlman was first reported seen on 17 April 1976 in the town of Mawn, Cornwall. The Melling family, consisting of Don, his wife and their two daughters June (12) and Vicky (9), were camping near Mawnon. They stopped for a picnic in a wooded area next to the medieval Church of St Mawan and St Stephen. While their parents prepared for the picnic, the sisters went to play in the churchyard graveyard.

Shortly afterward, Don and his wife hear a scream from the church and see their daughters speeding toward the family car. Inconsolable, the sisters urged their parents that the family leave the area immediately. Once safely back at their campsite, the sisters recall what they had seen: while playing around the grave, June and Vicky saw a large bird-like humanoid hovering a few feet above the church tower. First heard a strange sound.

Later that day, Don Melling confronts paranormal researcher Tony Shiels at the Penryn Steam Fair, when he learns that Shiels was possibly responsible for a number of 'paranormal phenomena' in the area. Don accuses Shiels of playing pranks on his daughters, but Shiels pleads innocent before asking if he can talk to June and Vicki about what they saw. Don refused a meeting between Shiels and his daughters, who were still traumatized by the incident, but he gave Shiels a drawing that June had drawn of the "Bird-Man" he had seen.

After Melling's encounter, numerous eyewitness reports of Owlman began to emerge around Mawannan. Sally Chapman and Barbara Perry (both aged 14) encountered the creature during a camping trip a few months later. The teenagers reported that 20 yards from their campsite stood and watched them a terrifying beast, about the size of a man with pointed ears, glowing eyes and sharp claws. Once sighted, the figure flew into the trees and disappeared into the night. According to Shiels, he received this eyewitness account after encountering the girls on the beach below St. Mawanan and St. Stephen's Church.
