भारत देश के अलग अलग राज्य के  राजकीय/राज्य पक्षीयों  की चर्चा को आगे बढ़ाते हुए आज बात करते हैं छत्तीसगढ़ और मेघालय के राजकीय पक्षी की। हूबहू इंसानों की तरह आवाज निकालने में माहिर है, छत्तीसगढ़ और मेघालय की राजकीय पक्षी "मैना (Mynah)"

वर्ष 2001 में छत्तीसगढ़ राज्य के गठन उपरांत राज्य के राजकीय के राजकीय पशु, पक्षी इत्यादि चिन्हित कर घोषित किये हैं। वर्ष 2002 में  “पहाड़ी मैना” को छत्तीसगढ़ का राजकीय/राज्य पक्षी घोषित किया गया। मुख्यतः यह बस्तर क्षेत्र में पाई जाती है। इसे “कांगेर घाटी राष्ट्रीय उद्यान” में संरक्षित किया गया है। पहाड़ी मैना का जीवनकाल औसतन 8 वर्ष होता है।  

पहाड़ी मैना एक छोटे आकार की चिड़िया है। इसे अंग्रेजी में “Hill Myna” कहते हैं। इसका वैज्ञानिक नाम “Gracula Religiosa Peninnsularis” है। इसकी सबसे ख़ास बात यह है कि यह हूबहू मनुष्यों की बोली की नक़ल कर लेते हैं। तोते से भी स्पष्ट मनुष्यों की आवाज़ की नक़ल करने के कारण पहाड़ी मैना को ‘mimic bird’ भी कहा जाता है। पहाड़ी मैना चमकीले काले रंग का हल्की हरी आभा वाला पक्षी है। यह आकार में 28 से 30 सेमी लंबा और वजन में 200 ग्राम से 250 ग्राम भारी होता है। बैठे हुए इसके काले पंख ही दिखाई देते हैं, लेकिन उड़ते समय इसके सफ़ेद पंख देखे जा सकते हैं। इसकी मजबूत चोंच नारंगी रंग की होती और पैर पीले रंग के होते हैं। इसके सिर और आँखों के पास पीले रंग के धब्बे होते हैं। नर और मादा पहाड़ी मैना एक समान दिखते हैं। अतः इनमें अंतर कर पाना कठिन होता है। 

पहाड़ी मैना सर्वाहारी पक्षी है। यह छोटे कीड़े-मकोड़े, अनाज के दाने, फल, पत्ती, घास-फूंस खाता है तथा फूलों का रस पीता है। पहाड़ी मैना समाजिक पक्षी है, जो समूह बनाकर रहते हैं। ये 2 से 8 के समूह में रहते हैं। ये एक बार में 2 से 3 अंडे देती हैं। इनके अंडे गहरे नीले रंग के होते हैं, जिसमें लाल-भूरे स्पॉट्स होते हैं। यह 14 से 18 दिन तक अंडों को सेते हैं। अंडों को सेने और उसकी देखभाल का कार्य नर और मादा पहाड़ी मैना दोनों मिलकर करते है। अंडों से बच्चे निकलने के बाद उनके पालन-पोषण की जिम्मेदारी भी दोनों साथ मिलकर निभाते हैं। 

छत्तीसगढ़ में यह बस्तर क्षेत्र के जंगलों में पाई जाती है। दंतेवाड़ा, बीजापुर, नारायणपुर, कोंडागाँव, जगदलपुर, कांगेर घातिम गुप्तेश्वर तिरिया क्षेत्र, कुंचा आदि क्षेत्रों में भी इसे विचरण करते देखा जा सकता हैं। ऊँचे-ऊँचे साल के वृक्ष इनका घर हैं। ये कठफोड़वा द्वारा पेड़ों पर बनाये गए खोह में रहती हैं। 

पहाड़ी मैना की संख्या दिन पर दिन कम होती जा रही है और इसे विलुप्तप्राय पक्षियों में शामिल है। अतः इसके संरक्षण और संवर्धन की दिशा में छत्तीसगढ़ शासन प्रयासरत है।

Taking forward the discussion about the state/state birds of different states of India, today let's talk about the state bird of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh's state bird "Mynah" specializes in making sounds exactly like humans.

After the formation of the state of Chhattisgarh in the year 2001, the state animals, birds etc. have been marked and declared as the state animals of the state. In the year 2002, "Pahari Myna" was declared as the official / state bird of Chhattisgarh. Mainly it is found in Bastar region. It has been preserved in the "Kanger Valley National Park". The average life span of hill myna is 8 years.

The hill myna is a small bird. It is called "Hill Myna" in English. Its scientific name is "Gracula Religiosa Peninnsularis". Its most important thing is that it exactly copies the speech of humans. The mountain myna is also called 'mimic bird' because of its ability to imitate human sounds more clearly than parrots. The hill myna is a bird of bright black color with a slight green tint. It is 28 to 30 cm long in size and 200 grams to 250 grams heavy in weight. Its black wings are visible while sitting, but its white wings can be seen while flying. Its strong beak is orange in color and the feet are yellow. It has yellow spots near its head and eyes. Male and female mountain mynas look alike. Hence it is difficult to differentiate between them.

The mountain myna is an omnivorous bird. It eats small insects, grains, fruits, leaves, grasses and drinks the juice of flowers. Hill Myna is a social bird, which lives in groups. They live in groups of 2 to 8. They lay 2 to 3 eggs at a time. Their eggs are dark blue in colour, with reddish-brown spots. It incubates the eggs for 14 to 18 days. The work of hatching and caring for the eggs is done by both the male and the female hill myna. After the hatching of the eggs, both together share the responsibility of their upbringing.

In Chhattisgarh it is found in the forests of Bastar region. It can also be seen roaming in areas like Dantewada, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Jagdalpur, Kanger Ghatim Gupteshwar Tiriya area, Kuncha etc. Tall Sal trees are their home. They live in holes made by woodpeckers on trees.

The number of hill myna is decreasing day by day and it is included in endangered birds. Therefore, Chhattisgarh government is making efforts towards its protection and promotion.
