चिड़ियों की दुनिया भी कितनी निराली है, खुला आसमान ऊंची उड़ान। गौरैया पक्षी से तो सभी परिचित हैं, पर क्या आप जानते हैं कि बिहार का राजकीय अर्थात राज्य पक्षी गौरैया है? गौरैया बिहार के साथ ही भारत की राजधानी दिल्ली का भी राजकीय पक्षी है। जैसा की विदित है हर राज्य का राजकीय पक्षी होता है। अगले कुछ अंकों में अलग-अलग राज्यों के राजकीय पक्षियों की चर्चा करेंगे।

पिछले कुछ वर्षों से लगातार गौरैया की संख्या में गिरावट के कारण गौरैया के संरक्षण के प्रति लोगों में जागरूकता के लिए प्रति वर्ष 20 मार्च को "विश्व गौरैया दिवस" मनाया जाता है।

गौरैया एक छोटी चिड़िया है। इसके पंख हल्के भूरे होते हैं और पैर का रंग पीला होता है। घरेलू गौरैया की लंबाई सामान्यतः 14 से 18 सेंटीमीटर होती है तथा वजन 24 से 39 ग्राम तक होता है।

नर गौरैया को चिड़ा और मादा को चिड़ि या चिड़िया कहते हैं। आकार में नर गौरैया मादा से थोड़े बड़े होते हैं। नर में एक भूरे रंग का मुकुट, काली बिब तथा लाल भूरे रंग की पीठ पर काले और भूरे रंग के धब्बे होते हैं, जबकि मादा की भूरी धारीदार पीठ होती है। नर गौरैया के सिर का ऊपरी भाग, शरीर के नीचे का भाग और पेट के आसपास का रंग भूरा होता है। गले के पास काला धब्बा होता है। इसकी चोंच और आंखों का रंग काला होता है और पैर भूरे होते हैं। मादा गौरैया की भूरे रंग की धारीदार पीट होती है। नर गौरैया की पहचान उसके गले के पास के काले धब्बे से की जा सकती है।

गौरैया सामान्यतः यूरोप, भूमध्यसागरीय क्षेत्र और एशिया के अधिकांश भागों में पाए जाते हैं। यह अमेरिका के अधिकांश स्थानों, अफ्रीका के कुछ स्थानों, न्यूजीलैंड और ऑस्ट्रेलिया में भी पाया जाता है।

गौरैया विविध आवासों और जलवायु में पाए जाते हैं। जहां - जहां मनुष्य रहते हैं, यह अपना बसेरा वहीं बना लेते हैं। शहरों, कस्बों, गांव, खेतों के आसपास यह ज्यादातर पाए जाते हैं तथा निर्जन पहाड़ी स्थानों, जंगलों, रेगिस्तान में इनकी संख्या कम ही पाई जाती है।

The world of birds is also so unique, flying high in the open sky. Everyone is familiar with the sparrow bird, but do you know that the state bird of Bihar is the sparrow? Sparrow is the national bird of Bihar as well as Delhi, the capital of India. As it is known that every state has a state bird. In the next few points, we will discuss the state birds of different states.

Due to the continuous decline in the number of sparrows for the past few years, "World Sparrow Day" is celebrated every year on 20 March to create awareness among people about the conservation of sparrows.

Sparrow is a small bird. Its wings are light brown and the color of the leg is yellow. The length of the house sparrow is usually 14 to 18 cm and the weight ranges from 24 to 39 grams.

The male sparrow is called Chida and the female is called Chidiya or Chidiya. Male sparrows are slightly larger in size than females. The male has a brown crown, black bib and reddish brown back with black and brown spots, while the female has a brown striped back. The upper part of the head, lower part of the body and around the belly of the male sparrow are brown. There is a black spot near the throat. Its beak and eyes are black in color and legs are brown. The female sparrow has brown striped plumage. The male sparrow can be identified by the black spot near its throat.

Sparrows are commonly found in Europe, the Mediterranean region and most parts of Asia. It is also found in most of the Americas, some places in Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

Sparrows are found in a wide variety of habitats and climates. Wherever humans live, they make their abode there. They are mostly found around cities, towns, villages, farms and their numbers are rarely found in deserted hilly places, forests, deserts.
