होली उत्सव और महामूर्ख की उपाधि

विजयनगर की होली आसपास के कई गांवों में काफी मशहूर थी। इस पर्व को यहां बड़ी धूमधाम के साथ मनाया जाता था। खुद महाराज कृष्णदेव राय भी इस मौके पर होने वाले आयोजनों में बढ़-चढ़कर भाग लेते थे। होली के दिन किसी एक निवासी को महामूर्ख की उपाधि से नवाजा जाता था। साथ ही दस हजार सोने की मुद्राएं भी भेंट की जाती थीं। अपनी सूझ-बूझ और वाकपटुता के कारण तेनालीराम हर साल इस उपाधि को अपने नाम कर लेते थे। एक साल की बात है, होली का त्योहार नजदीक था। तभी दरबारियों ने मिलकर तय किया कि इस साल किसी भी कीमत पर तेनालीराम को यह उपाधि नहीं लेने देंगे। दरबारियों ने योजना बनाई कि तेनालीराम को चुपके से भांग पिला देंगे, ताकि तेनालीराम होली के उत्सव में हिस्सा ही न ले सके।

होली कार्यक्रम का आयोजन इस साल एक खास बगीचे में हुआ था। वहां खूबसूरत सजावट के साथ ही होली खेलने वाले लोगों के लिए रंग, इत्र से तैयार गुलाल और तरह-तरह के पकवान रखे गए थे।

उत्सव की शुरुआत महाराज की घोषणा के साथ हुई, जिसमें महाराज ने कहा कि सभी दिल खोल कर खाएं-पिएं और होली खेलें। साथ ही इस बात का भी ध्यान रखें कि किसी भी दूसरे व्यक्ति को उनसे कोई तकलीफ न हो। वहीं, जितना हो सके अपनी हरकतों से अपनी मूर्खता का प्रमाण दें, ताकि वे महामूर्ख की उपाधि हासिल कर सकें।

महाराज की घोषणा के बाद सभी होली खेलने में व्यस्त हो गए और खुलकर मौज-मस्ती करने लगे। कुछ लोग नाच रहे थे और कुछ लोग रंगों को हवा में उछाल रहे थे। वहीं कुछ ऐसे भी थे, जिनका ध्यान होली खेलने पर कम और खाने-पीने पर ज्यादा था।

इसी बीच जब तेनालीराम का भांग का नशा कुछ कम हुआ तो वह भी होली उत्सव में हिस्सा लेने पहुंच गए। तभी तेनालीराम की नजर एक पुरोहित पर पड़ी जो मिठाईयां खा कम और झोली में भर ज्यादा रहे थे। तेनालीराम कुछ देर तक उन्हें बड़ी ध्यान से देखते रहे। पुरोहित की झोली और दोनों जेबें जब मिठाइयों से भर गईं, तो तेनालीराम उनके करीब गए। तेनालीराम ने पानी से भरा एक लोटा लिया और पुरोहित की झोली व जेब में उड़ेल दिया।

फिर क्या था, तेनालीराम के ऐसा करने की वजह से पुरोहित जी बहुत नाराज हो गए। वह तेनालीराम पर जोर-जोर से चिल्लाने लगे और चीखने लगे। पुरोहित के इस तरह चीखने से सभी उनकी ओर देखने लगे और महाराज की नजर भी उन लोगों पर पड़ी।

तब राजा कृष्णदेव उन लोगों के करीब गए और पुरोहित से उनके चिल्लाने की वजह पूछे। तब पुरोहित जी ने उन्हें बताया कि कैसे तेनालीराम ने उनकी जेब और झोली में पानी डाल दिया। इस पर महाराज तेनालीराम से बहुत नाराज हुए और तेनालीराम से ऐसा करने की वजह पूछे।

तब तेनालीराम मुस्कुराते हुए बोले - "महाराज! पुरोहित जी की जेबों और झोले ने बहुत मिठाईयां खा ली थीं। मुझे लगा कहीं उन्हें बदहजमी न हो जाए, बस इसी वजह से मैंने पुरोहित जी की जेबों और झोले को थोड़ा पानी पिलाया था।"

तेनालीराम की बात सुनकर महाराज जोर-जोर से हंसने लगे और कुछ देर बाद बोले - "तेनालीराम! तुम सबसे बड़े महामूर्ख हो, भला झोला और जेब भी कहीं मिठाईयां खाते हैं क्या?"

महाराज की बात सुनकर तेनालीराम को भी हंसी आ गई और उसने पुरोहित जी की जेबों व झोले को पलट दिया। ऐसा करते ही सारी बर्फी और मिठाईयां घास पर गिर गई। पुरोहित जी भी अपने किए पर बहुत शर्मिंदा हुए। देखते ही देखते वहां मौजूद सभी लोग जोर-जोर से हंसने लगे।

तभी तेनालीराम ने महाराज से पूछा कि - महाराज! क्या आपने मुझे महामूर्ख कहकर पुकारा? वहीं तेनालीराम ने वहां मौजूद अन्य दरबारियों से भी यही पूछा, "क्या आप सब को भी मैं महामूर्ख लगता हूं?"

तब सभी ने एक स्वर में कहा - "तुमने जो अभी हरकत की है, वह महामूर्ख वाली ही है।" बस फिर क्या था? हर साल के जैसे ही इस साल भी होली के मौके पर दी जाने वाली महामूर्ख की उपाधि चालक और चतुर तेनालीराम को ही मिली। साथ ही उसे दस हजार स्वर्ण मुद्राएं भी दी गई।

The festivities began with the announcement of the Maharaja, in which the Maharaja asked everyone to eat and drink with open hearts and play Holi. Also, keep in mind that no other person should have any problem with them. At the same time, prove your foolishness with your actions as much as possible, so that they can earn the title of great fool.

After Maharaj's announcement everyone got busy in playing Holi and started having fun freely. Some people were dancing and some people were tossing colors in the air. At the same time, there were some who were less focused on playing Holi and more on food and drink.

Meanwhile, when Tenaliram's cannabis intoxication subsided, he also reached to participate in the Holi festival. Then Tenaliram's eyes fell on a priest who was eating less sweets and more in his bag. Tenaliram kept watching them very carefully for some time. When the purser's bag and both his pockets were filled with sweets, Tenaliram approached him. Tenaliram took a pot full of water and poured it into the purser's bag and pocket.

What was then, because of Tenaliram doing this, Purohit ji got very angry. He started shouting loudly at Tenaliram and started screaming. Due to such screaming of the priest, everyone started looking at him and Maharaj's eyes also fell on them.

Then King Krishnadev went close to them and asked the priest the reason for their shouting. Then Purohit ji told him how Tenaliram put water in his pocket and bag. On this Maharaj was very angry with Tenaliram and asked Tenaliram the reason for doing so.

Then Tenaliram smiled and said - "Maharaj! Purohit ji's pockets and bag had eaten a lot of sweets. I thought that he should not get upset, that is why I had given some water to Purohit ji's pockets and bags."

After listening to Tenaliram, Maharaj started laughing loudly and after some time said - "Tenaliram! You are the biggest idiot, do you eat sweets in your bag and pocket too?"

Hearing the words of the Maharaj, Tenaliram also laughed and turned the purser's pockets and bags. Doing so, all the burfi and sweets fell on the grass. Purohit ji was also very ashamed of his actions. Soon all the people present there started laughing out loud.

Then Tenaliram asked Maharaj that - Maharaj! Did you call me a fool? At the same time, Tenaliram asked the same to the other courtiers present there, "Do you all think I am a fool?"

Then everyone said in one voice - "Whatever you have done now, it is only that of a great fool." Just what then? Like every year, this year also the driver and clever Tenaliram got the title of great fool given on the occasion of Holi. Along with this, ten thousand gold coins were also given to him.
