बाढ़ और राहत बचाव कार्य

एक बार की बात है, महाराज कृष्णदेव राय के राज्य विजयनगर में बहुत भयानक बाढ़ आई। इस बाढ़ में राज्य के कई गांव डूब गए। इस वजह से राज्य का काफी नुकसान हुआ। इस प्राकृतिक आपदा के बारे में जब महाराज कृष्णदेव राय को पता चला, तो उन्होंने एक मंत्री को फौरन बाढ़ से पीड़ित लोगों की मदद करने का आदेश दिया और कहा, ‘बाढ़ से हुए नुकसान को पूरा करने के लिए जितने भी धन की जरूरत हो, वह उसे शाही खजाने से निकलवा ले। मगर, जल्द से जल्द सभी पीड़ितों की सहायता की जाए। साथ ही कृष्णदेव ने मंत्री से बाढ़ की वजह से टूटे पुल, सड़क और लोगों के घरों की मरमम्त कराने को भी कहा।’

महाराज का आदेश पाकर मंत्री ने शाही खजाने से ढेर सारा धन निकाला और लंबे समय के लिए गायब हो गया। काफी समय तक मंत्री के दिखाई न देने पर महाराज और अन्य दरबारियों को लगा कि मंत्री बाढ़ पीड़ितों की मदद करने में जुटा होगा, इस वजह से वह इतने दन से दिखाई नहीं दिया।

मगर, तेनालीराम को मंत्री का लंबे समय तक गायब होना हजम नहीं हुआ। इसलिए तेनालीराम ने मंत्री के गायब होने की असल हकीकत जानने का मन बनाया। इसके बाद से तेनालीराम रोज की तरह दिन में दरबार पहुंचता और रात को राज्य में शामिल सभी गांवों में घूमकर किए गए राहत कार्य का मुआयना करता।

कुछ हफ्तों के बाद एक दिन मंत्री जी दरबार में हाजिर हुए और गांव में किए गए अपने काम को महाराज कृष्णदेव के सामने बढ़ा-चढ़ा कर बताने लगे। यह सब सुनकर महाराज और दरबार में मौजूद अन्य मंत्री बहुत खुश हुए। सभी नें मंत्री के काम की काफी प्रसंशा की। वहीं तेनालीराम ने भी सभी के सुर में सुर मिलाते हुए मंत्री की प्रशंसा कर दी। कुछ देर बाद जब दरबार का कार्य खत्म हुआ। सभी दरबारी अपने-अपने घर चले गए, लेकिन तेनालीराम वहीं अपनी जगह पर बिल्कुल शांत बैठा रहा।

तेनालीराम को इस स्थिति में देख महाराज कृष्णदेव ने पूछा, ‘तेनालीराम तुम घर क्यों नहीं गए, क्या बात है?’

इसपर तेनालीराम बोला, ‘महाराज मंत्री ने राज्य में जो राहत और बचाव कार्य किया वह अपनी जगह है, लेकिन यदि आप प्रजा से मिलेंगे तो उन्हें इससे ज्यादा खुशी होगी।’

तेनालीराम की यह बात महाराज को पसंद आई। उन्होंने अगले दिन ही तेनालीराम के साथ बाढ़ प्रभावित क्षेत्रों का दौरा करने का फैसला किया।

अगले दिन सुबह होते ही महाराज और तेनालीराम बाढ़ प्रभावित क्षेत्रों का दौरा करने के लिए तैयार हो गए। दोनों ने अपने-अपने घोड़े की सवारी की और आगे बढ़ने लगे। कुछ दूरी पर महाराज रूक गए और चौंककर तेनालीराम से पूछा, ‘ये शाही बाग में लगे सुंदर पेड़ और फलदार वृक्ष कहां गए?’ तेनाली ने कटाक्ष करते हुए कहा, ‘हो सकता है महाराज यह पेड़ बाढ़ के साथ बह गए हो।’

तेनालीराम की यह बात सुनकर महाराज खामोश हो गए और आगे बढ़ने का इशारा किया। दोनों कुछ दूर आगे बढ़ ही पाए थे कि महाराज की नजर वहां मौजूद नालों पर पड़ी। नालों पर मंत्री जी को पुल बनवाने को कहा गया था, लेकिन वहां पुल की जगह पेड़ों के तने डाले गए थे। महाराज समझ गए कि मंत्री ने शाही बागों के वृक्षों के तनों को नालों पर डलवा दिया है।

तभी तेनालीराम ने चुटकी ली और बोला, ‘महाराज हो सकता है कि बाढ़ के कारण पेड़ के तने यहां आ गए और अटक गए। मंत्री जी जिस पुल के निर्माण की बात कर रहे थे, वह आगे होगा।’

इस पर भी महाराज कुछ नहीं बोले और आगे बढ़कर एक गांव में पहुंचे। गांव में चारो ओर बाढ़ का पानी भरा हुआ था। वहां मौजूद लोग बाढ़ के कारण बेहाल थे। कुछ लोगों जान बचाने के लिए अपने घरों पर पड़ी खपरैल पर चढ़े हुए थे, तो कुछ पेड़ों पर रह रहे थे।

यह नजारा देख तेनालीराम बोला, ‘देखिए महाराज! मंत्री ने इन लोगों को पेड़ों और घर की छतों पर चढ़ा दिया है, ताकि भविष्य में भी इन्हें बाढ़ से कोई नुकसान न पहुंचे।’

अब महाराज कृष्णदेव राय के सब्र का बांध टूट गया और वह गुस्सा से तिलमिला उठे। बिना देर किए वह वापस अपने महल आए और उस मंत्री को दरबार में हाजिर होने का संदेश भिजवा दिया।

मंत्री डरते-डरते दरबार पहुंचा। उसे देख महाराज का गुस्सा फूट पड़ा। उन्होंने मंत्री को खूब फटकार लगाई और जल्द से जल्द सारा धन शाही खजाने में जमा कराने का आदेश दिया। वहीं महाराज ने अब राज्य में राहत और बचाव कार्य कराने का जिम्मा तेनालीराम को सौंपा दिया। साथ ही उसे धन के हिसाब-किताब का भी काम दिया और मंत्री किनारे मुंह लटकाए खड़ा रहा।

After the minister was not visible for a long time, Maharaj and other courtiers felt that the minister would be busy helping the flood victims, due to this he did not appear for so long.

However, Tenaliram could not digest the long disappearance of the minister. So Tenaliram made up his mind to know the real reality of the minister's disappearance. Since then, Tenaliram would reach the court as usual during the day and visit all the villages in the state at night to inspect the relief work.

After a few weeks, one day the minister appeared in the court and began to exaggerate his work done in the village in front of Maharaja Krishnadev. Hearing all this, the Maharaj and the other ministers present in the court were very happy. Everyone greatly appreciated the work of the minister. At the same time, Tenaliram also praised the minister, shaking everyone's tone. After some time when the work of the court was over. All the courtiers went to their respective homes, but Tenaliram remained silent at his place there.

Seeing Tenaliram in this condition, Maharaja Krishnadeva asked, 'Tenaliram, why didn't you go home, what's the matter?'

To this, Tenaliram said, 'The relief and rescue work done by Maharaj Minister in the state has its place, but if you meet the people, they will be more than happy.'

Maharaj liked this thing of Tenaliram. He decided to visit the flood affected areas with Tenaliram the very next day itself.

The next morning, Maharaj and Tenaliram agreed to visit the flood-affected areas. Both of them rode their respective horses and started moving forward. At some distance, Maharaj stopped and asked Tenaliram in shock, 'Where did these beautiful trees and fruit trees in the royal garden go?' Tenali said with a sarcasm, 'Maharaj, this tree may have been washed away by the flood.'

On hearing this talk of Tenaliram, Maharaj became silent and gestured to move forward. Both of them were able to move forward some distance that Maharaj's eyes fell on the drains present there. The minister was asked to build a bridge over the drains, but instead of the bridge, tree trunks were inserted. Maharaj understood that the minister had got the trunks of the trees of the royal gardens dumped on the drains.

Then Tenaliram quipped and said, 'Maharaj, it may be that due to the flood, the trunk of the tree came here and got stuck. The bridge that the minister was talking about will be built next.

Even on this the Maharaj did not say anything and went ahead and reached a village. There was flood water all around the village. The people present there were suffering due to the flood. Some people were climbing on the tiles lying on their houses to save their lives, while some were living on the trees.

Seeing this sight, Tenaliram said, 'Look, my lord! The minister has mounted these people on trees and on the roofs of the house, so that in future also they are not harmed by floods.

Now the dam of patience of Maharaja Krishnadev Raya broke and he trembled with anger. Without delay, he came back to his palace and sent a message to that minister to be present in the court.

The minister reached the court in fear. Seeing him, Maharaj got angry. He reprimanded the minister and ordered to deposit all the money in the royal treasury at the earliest. At the same time, Maharaj has now entrusted the task of carrying out relief and rescue work in the state to Tenaliram. Along with this, he was also given the task of accounting for money and the minister stood hanging on the side.
