वैद्यनाथ मंदिर ~ Baidyanath Temple

वैद्यनाथ मंदिर भारतवर्ष के झारखंड राज्य में अति प्रसिद्ध देवघर नामक स्थान पर अवस्थित है। पवित्र तीर्थ होने के कारण लोग इसे बैद्यनाथधाम भी कहते हैं। जहां पर यह मंदिर स्थित है उस स्थान को 'देवघर'अर्थात देवताओं का घर कहते हैं। यह एक सिद्ध पीठ है। कहा जाता है कि यहां पर आने वालोें की सारी मनोकामनाएं पूर्ण होती हैं। इस कारण इस लिंग को 'कामना लिंग' भी कहा जाता है।

स्थापना से जुड़ी कथा

इस लिंग की स्थापना का इतिहास यह है कि एक बार राक्षस राज रावण ने हिमालय पर जाकर शिवजी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए घोर तप किये और अपने सिर काट- काटकर शिवलिंग पर चढ़ाने लगे। एक-एक करके 9 सिर चढ़ाने के बाद दसवां सिर काटने को था ही, तभी शिव जी प्रसन्न होकर प्रकट हो गए। उन्होंने उसके दसों सिर ज्यों के त्यों कर दिए और वर मांगने को कहा। रावण ने लंका में जाकर उस लिंग को स्थापित करने के लिए उसे ले जाने की आज्ञा मांगी। शिव जी ने अनुमति तो दे दी पर इस चेतावनी के साथ दी कि यदि मार्ग में इसे पृथ्वी पर रख देगा तो वह वहीं अचल हो जाएगा।

इधर भगवान शिव की कैलाश छोड़ने की बात सुनते ही सभी देवता चिंतित हो गए और इसका समाधान ढूंढने के लिए भगवान विष्णु के पास गए। तब भगवान विष्णु ने एक लीला रची। विष्णु जी ने वरुण को आचमन के जरिए रावण के पेट में घुसने को कहा, और जब रावण आचमन करके शिवलिंग को लेकर लंका की ओर चला, तो देवघर के पास उसे लघुशंका लगी। ऐसे में रावण एक वाले को शिवलिंग देकर लघुशंका करने चला गया। कहते हैं, बैजू ग्वाले के रूप में स्वयं भगवान विष्णु वहां विराजमान थे। इस वजह से भी इस तीर्थ धाम को बैजनाथ धाम अथवा रावणेश्वर धाम के नाम से जाना जाता है।पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार रावण कई घंटे तक लघुशंका करता रहा जो आज भी एक तालाब के रूप में मौजूद है। इधर बैजू ग्वालियर ने अत्यधिक भार के वजह से शिवलिंग को वह धरती पर रख दिया।

जब रावण लघुशंका से लौटकर आया तो लाख कोशिश के बाद भी शिवलिंग को उठा नहीं पाया। तब उसे भी भगवान की लीला समझ में आ गई और क्रोधित हो शिवलिंग पर अपना अंगूठा गढ़ा कर चला गया। इसके बाद ब्रह्मा, विष्णु आदि देवताओं ने आकर उस शिवलिंग की पूजा-अर्चना की और उसी स्थान पर शिवलिंग की स्थापना कर दी,और शिव स्तुति करते हुए वापस स्वर्ग को चले गए। जनश्रुति और लोक मान्यता के अनुसार यह वैद्यनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग मनोवांछित फल देने वाला है।

यात्रा व आकर्षण

देवघर में बाबा भोलेनाथ का अत्यंत पवित्र और भव्य मंदिर स्थित है। हर साल सावन के महीने में सावन मेला लगता है, जिसमें लाखों श्रद्धालु "बोल - बम", "बोल - बम" का जयकारा लगाते हुए बाबा भोलेनाथ का दर्शन करने आते हैं। 

मंदिर के समीप एक विशाल तालाब भी स्थित है।बाबा वैद्यनाथ का मुख्य मंदिर सबसे पुराना है,जिसके आसपास अनेक अन्य मंदिर भी बने हुए हैं।बाबा भोलेनाथ का मंदिर मां पार्वती जी के मंदिर से जुड़ा हुआ है।

बैद्यनाथ धाम की पवित्र यात्रा श्रावण मास में शुरू होती है।सबसे पहले तीर्थयात्री सुल्तानगंज में एकत्र होते हैं,जहां वे अपने अपने पात्रों में पवित्र गंगाजल भरते हैं।इसके बाद यह गंगा जल को अपने-अपने कांवर में रखकर वैद्यनाथ धाम और बासुकीनाथ की ओर बढ़ते हैं।ये सभी श्रद्धालु सुल्तानगंज से पवित्र गंगा का जल लेकर लगभग 105 किलोमीटर की अत्यंत कठिन पैदल यात्रा कर बाबा को जल चढ़ाते हैं। पवित्र जल ले जाते समय इस बात का ध्यान रखा जाता है कि वह पात्र जिसमें जल है वह कहीं भी भूमि से ना सटे।

वासुकिनाथ मंदिर

वैद्यनाथ मंदिर की यात्रा तब तक अधूरी मानी जाती है जब तक वासुकिनाथ में दर्शन नहीं किए जाते।(यह मान्यता हाल फिलहाल में प्रचलित हुई है, पहले ऐसी मान्यता नहीं थी और ना ही पुराणों में वर्णन है)। यह मंदिर देवघर से 42 किलोमीटर दूर जरमुंडी गांव के पास स्थित है। यहां पर स्थानीय कला के विभिन्न रूपों को देखा जा सकता है। बासुकिनाथ परिसर में कई अन्य छोटे-छोटे मंदिर भी हैं।

बैजू मंदिर

बाबा बैद्यनाथ मंदिर परिसर के पश्चिम में देवघर के मुख्य बाजार में तीन और मंदिर भी हैं। इन्हें बैजू मंदिर के नाम से जाना जाता है। इन मंदिरों का निर्माण बाबा वैद्यनाथ मंदिर के मुख्य पुजारी के वंशजों ने किसी जमाने में करवाया था। प्रत्येक मंदिर में भगवान शिव का लिंग स्थापित है।

वैद्यनाथ धाम में महाशिवरात्रि और पंचशील की पूजा

विश्व के सभी मंदिरों के शीर्ष पर त्रिशूल लगा दिखता है, मगर वैद्यनाथ परिसर के शिव - पार्वती, लक्ष्मी - नारायण और अन्य सभी मंदिरों के शीर्ष पर पंचशूल लगे हैं।

यहां प्रतिवर्ष महाशिवरात्रि के 2 दिन पूर्व बाबा मंदिर, मां पार्वती, लक्ष्मी-नारायण के मंदिरों से पंचशूल उतारे जाते हैं। इस दौरान पंचशूल को स्पर्श करने के लिए भक्तों की भीड़ उमड़ पड़ती है। सभी पंचशूलों को नीचे लाकर महाशिवरात्रि से 1 दिन पूर्व उसकी विशेष पूजा की जाती है और फिर सभी पंचशूलों को मंदिर पर यथा स्थान स्थापित कर दिया जाता है। इस दौरान बाबा व पार्वती मंदिरों के गठबंधन को हटा दिया जाता है। महाशिवरात्रि के दिन नया गठबंधन किया जाता है। गठबंधन के लाल पवित्र कपड़े को प्राप्त करने के लिए भी भक्तों की भारी भीड़ एकत्रित हो जाती है। महाशिवरात्रि के दौरान बहुत से श्रद्धालु सुल्तानगंज से कांवर में गंगा जल भर कर 105 किलोमीटर पैदल चलकर और 'बोल बम' का जयघोष करते हुए वैद्यनाथ धाम पहुंचते हैं।

Baidyanath Temple

Vaidyanath Temple is located in a very famous place called Deoghar in the state of Jharkhand, India.  Being a holy pilgrimage, people also call it Baidyanathdham.  The place where this temple is located is called 'Devghar' ie the house of the deities. This is a proven back. It is said that all the wishes of the people who come here are fulfilled.  For this reason, this place is also called 'Kamna Linga'.

 Story related to the establishment

 The history of the establishment of this linga is that once the demon Raj Ravana went to the Himalayas to do great penance to please Shiva and cut off his head and started offering it to Shivalinga.  After offering 9 heads one by one, the tenth head was about to be cut, only then Shiva appeared.  They gave him ten heads as soon as possible and asked him to ask for the wish. Ravana went to Lanka and asked for permission to take him to establish that linga. Shiva ji gave permission but with the warning that if he puts it on the road, it will become immovable there itself.

 Here, on hearing of Lord Shiva leaving Kailash, all the gods got worried and went to Lord Vishnu to find a solution. Then Lord Vishnu created an act. Vishnu asked Varun to enter Ravana's stomach through Achman, and when Ravana ached and walked towards Lanka with the Shivalinga, he got a little breath near Devghar. In such a situation, Ravana went to take a small sankhanaka by giving Shivling to the one.  It is said that Lord Vishnu himself resided there in the form of Baiju Cowboy.  Due to this reason, this pilgrimage Dham is known as Baijnath Dham or Ravneshwar Dham. According to the legend, Ravana kept taking miniature dances for many hours which still exists as a pond.  Here Baiju Gwalior put Shivling on the ground due to excessive load.

After sometime when he returned, he could not lift the lingam even after a million attempts.  Then he too understood that it was an act of  God and became angry and went to the Shivling with his thumb.  After this, the gods like Brahma, Vishnu etc. came and worshiped the Shivling and established the Shivling at the same place, and praising Shiva went back to heaven. According to public opinion and popular belief, this Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga is going to give desired results.

 Travel & Attractions

 The very sacred and grand temple of Baba Bholenath is situated in Deoghar.  Every year, Sawan Mela is held in the month of Sawan, in which lakhs of devotees come to see Baba Bholenath.

 A huge pond is also located near the temple. The main temple of Baba Vaidyanath is the oldest, around which many other temples are also built. The temple of Baba Bholenath is connected to the temple of Maa Parvati ji.

 The holy journey of Baidyanath Dham begins in the month of Shravan. First the pilgrims congregate at Sultanganj, where they fill the holy Ganges water in their respective vessels. After this, they place the Ganges water in their Kanwar and towards Vaidyanath Dham and Basukinath.  All these devotees take the holy Ganges water from Sultanganj and take a very difficult trek of about 105 kilometers and offer water to Baba.  While carrying holy water, care is taken that the vessel which contains water should not be anywhere near the ground.

 Vasukinath Temple

 A visit to the Vaidyanath temple is considered incomplete until darshan at Vasukinath. (This belief has been in vogue in the recent past, neither was there such a belief nor is there a description in the Puranas).  The temple is located near Jarmundi village, 42 km from Deoghar.  Various forms of local art can be seen here.  There are many other small temples in the Basukinath complex.

 Baiju Temple

 There are also three more temples in the main market of Deoghar, to the west of the Baba Baidyanath temple complex.  They are known as Baiju Mandir.  These temples were built by the descendants of the chief priest of the Baba Vaidyanath temple at some time.  The linga of Lord Shiva is installed in each temple.

 Mahashivratri and Panchsheel worship in Vaidyanath Dham

 Trishul is seen on the top of all the temples of the world, but Shiva-Parvati, Lakshmi-Narayan and all other temples of the Vaidyanath complex have Panchshul on the top of the temples.

 Here every year, 2 days before Maha Shivaratri, Panchshul is taken down from the temples of Baba temple, Maa Parvati, Lakshmi and Narayan.  During this time, devotees crowd the area to touch the Panchshul.  All Panchshulas are brought down and special worship is done one day before Maha Shivaratri and then all Panchshulas are established at the temple in the same place.  During this time, the alliance of Baba and Parvati temples is removed.  A new alliance is made on the day of Mahashivaratri.  A huge crowd of devotees also gather to receive the red sacred cloth of the alliance.  During Mahashivaratri, many devotees reach Vaidyanath Dham from Sultanganj across Kanwar by walking 105 km across Ganga water and chanting 'Bol Bomb'.
