 हमारी पृथ्वी पर लाखों प्रकार की प्रजातियां मौजूद हैं, जिनके बारे में वैज्ञानिक आज भी बहुत कम जानते हैं। हर दिन वैज्ञानिकों को हजारों नई प्रजातियां देखने को मिलती हैं। कुछ तो बहुत सूक्ष्म हैं तो कई विशाल आकार की हैं। ऐसा ही एक सूक्ष्म जीव है जिसे टार्डीग्रेड (tardigrade) कहते हैं।  इसे पानी का भालू भी कहा जाता है।

यह जल में रहने वाला आठ-टाँगों वाला सूक्ष्मप्राणी है। इन्हें सन् 1773 में योहन गेट्ज़ा नामक जीववैज्ञानिक ने पाया था। टार्डीग्रेड पृथ्वी पर पर्वतों से लेकर गहरे महासागरों तक और वर्षावनों से लेकर अंटार्कटिका तक लगभग हर जगह रहते हैं।

टार्डीग्रेड पृथ्वी का सबसे प्रत्यास्थी (तरह-तरह की परिस्थितियाँ झेल सकने वाला) प्राणी है। यह 1 केल्विन (−272 °सेंटीग्रेड) से लेकर 420 केल्विन (150 °सेंटीग्रेड) का तापमान और महासागरों की सबसे गहरी गर्तो में मौजूद दबाव से छह गुना अधिक दबाव झेल सकते हैं।मानवों की तुलना में यह सैंकड़ों गुना अधिक विकिरण (रेडियेशन) में जीवित रह सकते हैं और अंतरिक्ष के व्योम में भी कुछ काल तक ज़िन्दा रहते हैं। यह 30 वर्षों से अधिक बिना कुछ खाए-पिए रह सकते हैं और धीरे-धीरे लगभग पूरी शारीरिक क्रियाएँ रोक लेते हैं और उनमें सूखकर केवल 3% जल की मात्रा रह जाती है। इसके बाद जल व आहार प्राप्त होने पर यह फिर क्रियाशील हो जाते हैं और शिशु जन सकते हैं।

वैज्ञानिको के शोध के अनुसार टार्डीग्रेड का अस्तित्व सूर्य के खत्म होने तक रहेगा. वैज्ञानिको का यह विश्वास है की टार्डीग्रेड पृथ्वी पर अंतिम जीवित रूप होंगे और मनुष्यो से भी अधिक समय तक जीवित रहेंगे. उन्होंने ये भी माना की ये विशाल तबाही में भी जिंदा रह सकते है. रिसर्च यह भी बताती है की मनुष्यो की तुलना में टार्डीग्रेड दस बिलियन सालो तक जीवित रहेंगे।

Tardigrade

  There are millions of species on our earth, about which scientists still know very little.  Every day, scientists get to see thousands of new species.  Some are very subtle and many are of enormous size.  One such microbe is called tardigrade.  It is also called water bear.

 It is an eight-legged microscope living in water.  They were found in 1773 by a biologist named Yohan Getza.  Tardigrades live almost everywhere on Earth, from mountains to deep oceans and from rainforests to Antarctica.

 The Tardigrade is the most resilient (to withstand a wide variety of conditions) of the Earth.  It can withstand temperatures ranging from 1 Kelvin (−272 ° C) to 420 Kelvin (150 ° C) and six times more than the pressure present in the deepest troughs of the oceans. This is hundreds of times more radiation than humans  Can survive in life and also live in space for some time.  They can live without eating or drinking for more than 30 years and gradually stop almost complete physical activity and after drying they only have 3% water content.  After receiving water and food, they become active again and the baby can be born.

 According to research by scientists, the existence of Tardigrade will last till the sun is over.  Scientists believe that Tardigrades will be the last living form on earth and will live longer than humans.  They also believed that they can stay alive even in this huge catastrophe.  Research also suggests that Tardigrades will live for ten billion years compared to humans.
