खास बात ये है कि ये पौधे एक विशेष वातावरण में ही पनपते हैं और ये एक से चार मीटर तक बढ़ सकते हैं। इसके लिए मिट्टी, सूरज की तेज रोशनी और बारिश की जरूरत होती है। इसीलिए ये वर्षावनों में पाए जाते हैं। इन्हें सामान्य तौर पर उगाना या इनकी खेती करना काफी मुश्किल है। जंगलों की कटाई और जल-वायु परिवर्तन के कारण ये पौधे धीरे-धीरे खत्म हो रहे हैं। वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि अगर इनके संरक्षण के लिए जल्द ही कदम नहीं उठाए गए, तो इंसानों की अगली पीढ़ी शायद ये पौधा नहीं देख सकेगी।
