नानक की सीख

श्री गुरुनानकजी महाराज प्रभु-नाम का प्रचार करते हुए पहुंचे बगदाद में। वहां राज करता था खलीफा। लोगों ने बताया कि खलीफा कंजूस बहुत है, किसी को एक कौड़ी भी नहीं देता। गुरुजी मुस्कुरा, कंकरों की एक पोटली बांध ली और अपने पास रख ली। 

सत्संग होने लगा कुछ दिनों के बाद खलीफा भी सत्संग में आया। सत्संग की समाप्ति पर गुरुजी ने खलीफा को आशीर्वाद दिया और बोले- "खलीफा! मैं हूं फकीर, स्थान-स्थान पर घूमता फिरता हूं। मेरे ये कंकर संभालकर अपने पास रख लें। मैं कभी मिलूंगा तो तुम से ले लूंगा।"

खलीफा ने कहा परन्तु ये तो कंकर हैं। गुरुजी बोले - "मेरे लिए ये कंकर ही बहुमूल्य हैं। आप इन्हें संभालकर रख लें।" खलीफा ने पूछा - परन्तु आप इन्हें वापस कब लेंगे? गुरुजी बोले - "ये तो मुझे भी मालूम नहीं। हो सकता है इस जीवन में फिर कभी आपसे भेंट ही नहीं हो सके। इस अवस्था में ये कंकर मैं आप से उस दिन ले लूंगा जबकि सब लोग खुदा के सामने अपना-अपना हिसाब देने के लिए इक्कठे होंगे।" 

खलीफा ने कहा, "परन्तु वहां मृत्यु के बाद, कयामत के दिन ये कंकर मैं साथ लेकर कैसे जाऊंगा?" गुरुजी ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा - अपने इतने माल-खजाने ले जाओगे सोना, चांदी, हीरे, जवाहरात तो थोड़े से कंकर नहीं ले जा सकते क्या? 

खलीफा की आंखें खुल गई। उसने कहा ये सब कुछ तो साथ नहीं जाएगा। कभी किसी के साथ नहीं गया। गुरुजी बोले - तो फिर ये सब एकत्र क्यों करते हो? बांट दो उन लोगों को जिन्हें इसकी आवश्यकता हो।

English Translate

Teachings of Nanak 

Shri Guru Nanak ji Maharaj reached Baghdad preaching the name of the Lord. The Caliph ruled there. People told him that the Caliph was very miserly, he did not give even a penny to anyone. Guruji smiled, tied a bundle of pebbles and kept it with himself.

The satsang started. After a few days, the Caliph also came to the satsang. At the end of the satsang, Guruji blessed the Caliph and said - "Caliph! I am a fakir, I roam from place to place. Keep these pebbles of mine with you. If I meet you sometime, I will take them from you."

The Caliph said, "But these are just pebbles." Guruji said - "These pebbles are precious for me. You keep them safely." The Caliph asked - But when will you take them back? Guruji said - "Even I don't know this. It is possible that I may never meet you again in this life. In this condition, I will take these pebbles from you on the day when everyone will gather to give their accounts before God."

Khalifa said, "But how will I take these pebbles with me on the Day of Judgement after my death?" Guruji said smilingly - You will take so many of your treasures - gold, silver, diamonds, jewels, then can't you take a few pebbles with you?

Khalifa's eyes opened. He said that all this will not go with you. It has never gone with anyone. Guruji said - Then why do you collect all this? Distribute it to those who need it.
