एशिया के प्रथम नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर (Ravindranath Tagore) का जन्म कोलकाता में 7 मई 1861 को हुआ था। 1915 में ब्रिटिश सत्ता ने रविंद्र नाथ टैगोर को "नाइटहुड" की उपाधि से सम्मानित किया था, हालांकि 1919 में जलियांवाला बाग नरसंहार के बाद टैगोर ने यह उपाधि लौटा दी थी। रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर (Ravindranath Tagore) को लोग "गुरुदेव" भी कहते थे। रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर विश्व विख्यात कवि के साथ ही मशहूर साहित्यकार, दार्शनिक, रचनाकार, नाटककार, चित्रकार, समाज सुधारक, संगीतकार आदि भी रह चुके हैं।

भारत का राष्ट्रगान 'जन गण मन' भी रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर द्वारा ही लिखी गई है। साथ ही उन्होंने बांग्लादेश का भी राष्ट्रगान 'आमार सोनार बांग्ला' लिखा है। नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता रविंद्र नाथ टैगोर की गिनती देश के बड़े साहित्यकार और कलाकारों में होती है। साहित्य और कला में बचपन से ही रुचि होने के कारण उन्हें यह सम्मान मिला।

एशिया के पहले नोबेल पुरस्कार जीतने वाले 

रवींदनाथ टैगोर नोबेल पुरस्कार जीतने वाले पहले भारतीय थे। उन्हें 1913 में उनकी कृति "गीतांजलि" के लिए नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था। टैगोर की कविताओं की पांडुलिपि को सबसे पहले विलियम रोथेनस्टाइन ने पढ़ा था और वह इतने मुग्ध हो गए कि उन्होंने अंग्रेजी कवि यीट्स से संपर्क किया और पश्चिमी जगत के लेखकों, कवियों, चित्रकारों और चिंतकों से टैगोर का परिचय कराया। रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर पहले गैर यूरोपीय थे, जिनको साहित्य का नोबेल पुरस्कार मिला था।

ब्रिटिश सत्ता ने "नाइटहुड" की उपाधि से नवाजा 

1915 में ब्रिटिश सत्ता ने रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर को नाइटहुड (सर) की उपाधि से सम्मानित किया था, जबकि 1919 में जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड के बाद टैगोर ने यह उपाधि लौटा दी थी। ब्रिटिश सरकार ने उनको नाइटहुड (सर) की उपाधि वापस लेने के लिए मनाया भी था, मगर वह राजी नहीं हुए।

रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर का पारिवारिक जीवन

रविंद्र नाथ टैगोर की मां शारदा देवी का बचपन में ही निधन हो गया था। पिता देवेंद्र नाथ एक ब्रह्म समाजी थे और व्यापक यात्राओं में रहा करते थे। इस वजह से बालक रविंद्रनाथ का लालन-पालन नौकरों ने ही किया था।

रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर के चार बच्चे थे, जिनमें से दो की मृत्यु बाल्यावस्था में ही हो गई थी। एक बेटी टीवी की बीमारी से ग्रस्त थी, जिसका निधन 12 वर्ष की अवस्था में हो गया था। उसका नाम रेणुका था, जिस पर इस दौरान रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर ने 'शिशु' नामक कविता भी लिखी थी। इनके जीवन के अंतिम 4 वर्ष बीमारियों के चलते दर्द में गुजरे थे, जिसके कारण सन 1937 में वे कोमा में चले गए थे। वे 3 साल तक कोमा में ही रहे। इस पीड़ा की विस्तृत अवधि के बाद 7 अगस्त 1941 को उनका देहावसान हो गया। उनकी मृत्यु जोरसंघ को हवेली में हुई जहां उन्हें लाया गया था।

Asia's first Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was born in Kolkata on 7 May 1861. In 1915, the British government honored Rabindranath Tagore with the title of "Knighthood", although Tagore returned this title after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. People also called Rabindranath Tagore as "Gurudev". Apart from being a world famous poet, Rabindranath Tagore was also a famous litterateur, philosopher, creator, playwright, painter, social reformer, musician etc.

India's national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' is also written by Rabindranath Tagore. He has also written the national anthem of Bangladesh 'Amar Sonar Bangla'. Nobel Prize winner Ravindra Nath Tagore is counted among the great litterateurs and artists of the country. He received this honor because of his interest in literature and art since childhood.

Asia's first Nobel Prize winner

Rabindnath Tagore was the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1913 for his work "Gitanjali". The manuscript of Tagore's poems was first read by William Rothenstein and he was so fascinated that he contacted the English poet Yeats and introduced Tagore to writers, poets, painters and thinkers in the Western world. Rabindranath Tagore was the first non-European to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.

The British government awarded the title of "Knighthood"

In 1915, the British government honored Rabindranath Tagore with the title of Knighthood (Sir), whereas in 1919, Tagore returned this title after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The British government had even persuaded him to withdraw the title of knighthood (Sir), but he did not agree.

Rabindranath Tagore's family life

Rabindranath Tagore's mother Sharda Devi died in his childhood. Father Devendra Nath was a Brahmo Samajist and used to travel extensively. Because of this, child Ravindranath was brought up by servants only.

Rabindranath Tagore had four children, two of whom died in childhood. One daughter suffered from TV disease, who died at the age of 12. Her name was Renuka, on which Rabindranath Tagore had also written a poem called 'Shishu' during this period. The last four years of his life were spent in pain due to diseases, due to which he went into a coma in 1937. He remained in coma for 3 years. After an extended period of suffering he died on 7 August 1941. He died at Jorsangha Ko Haveli where he was brought up.
