लोगों के भीतर पर्यावरण के प्रति जागरुकता फैलाने और धरती को बचाने के लिए प्रति वर्ष 22 अप्रैल के दिन दुनियाभर में "विश्व पृथ्वी दिवस" मनाया जाता है। पहला पृथ्वी दिवस 22 अप्रैल 1970 को संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में मनाया गया था। यह दिन पृथ्वी और इसके पर्यावरण के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाने और इसकी सुरक्षा के लिए कार्रवाई करने का प्रतीक है। 

औद्योगिक क्रांति के बाद से कार्बन उत्सर्जन काफी बढ़ा है। इसका बुरा असर हमारी पृथ्वी पर पड़ रहा है। इसके अलावा आज के इस पूंजीवादी विकास के मॉडल ने विभिन्न स्तरों पर प्रकृति को काफी क्षति पहुंचाया है। इस कारण पृथ्वी के संरक्षण की जरूरत महसूस हुई है। ऐसे में विकास की दौड़ के साथ-साथ प्रकृति के साथ संतुलन बनाने की आवश्यकता है। इस कारण पृथ्वी दिवस की भूमिका काफी महत्वपूर्ण हो जाती है।

इस दिन लोग धरती को बचाने के लिए संकल्प लेते हैं। स्कूलों में अलग-अलग तरह के कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया जाता है। कई सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता पृथ्वी को बचाने के लिए जुलूस और नुक्कड़ नाटक का भी आयोजन करते हैं।

पृथ्वी दिवस की शुरुआत कैसे हुई

पृथ्वी दिवस का विचार पहली बार 1969 में यूनेस्को सम्मेलन में शांति कार्यकर्ता जॉन मैककोनेल द्वारा दिया गया था। प्रारंभ में, इस दिन की अवधारणा पृथ्वी का सम्मान करने और उस पर शांति बनाए रखने के लिए थी। 

1990 में डेनिस हेस ने विश्व स्तर पर इस दिन को मनाने का विचार बनाया और इसमें 141 देशों ने भाग लिया। साल 2016 में, पृथ्वी दिवस को जलवायु संरक्षण के लिए समर्पित कर दिया गया। इसके लिए एक अंतर-सरकारी संधि, पेरिस समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए। 2020 में पृथ्वी दिवस की 50वीं वर्षगांठ भी मनाई गई थी।

विश्व पृथ्वी दिवस 2024 थीम 

हर साल पृथ्वी दिवस को एक थीम के साथ मनाया जाता है। इस साल पृथ्वी दिवस की थीम "पृथ्वी बनाम प्लास्टिक (Planet Vs Plastic)" है। इसके माध्यम से बढ़ते प्लास्टिक के उपयोग से मानव स्वास्थ्य को जिन जोखिमों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। उसके प्रति लोगों को जागरुक करना है। इसके अलावा तेजी से बढ़ते प्लास्टिक प्रदूषण पर रोक लगाने के लिए वैश्विक संगठनों का ध्यान इस ओर खींचना है।

World Earth Day

"World Earth Day" is celebrated across the world on 22 April every year to spread environmental awareness among people and save the earth. The first Earth Day was celebrated on 22 April 1970 in the United States. This day symbolizes raising awareness of the Earth and its environment and taking action to protect it.

Carbon emissions have increased significantly since the Industrial Revolution. It is having a bad effect on our earth. Apart from this, today's model of capitalist development has caused considerable damage to nature at various levels. For this reason the need for conservation of the earth has been felt. In such a situation, there is a need to maintain balance with nature along with the race for development. For this reason the role of Earth Day becomes very important.

On this day people take a pledge to save the earth. Different types of programs are organized in schools. Many social workers also organize processions and street plays to save the earth.

How did Earth Day start?

The idea of Earth Day was first proposed by peace activist John McConnell at a UNESCO conference in 1969. Initially, the concept of this day was to honor the earth and maintain peace on it.

In 1990, Dennis Hayes came up with the idea of celebrating this day globally and 141 countries participated in it. In the year 2016, Earth Day was dedicated to climate protection. For this, an inter-governmental treaty, the Paris Agreement, was signed. The 50th anniversary of Earth Day was also celebrated in 2020.

World Earth Day 2024 Theme

Every year Earth Day is celebrated with a theme. The theme of Earth Day this year is “Planet Vs Plastic”. Through this, the risks that human health is facing due to the increasing use of plastic. People have to be made aware about it. Apart from this, the attention of global organizations has to be drawn towards this to stop the rapidly increasing plastic pollution.
