हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार हर साल माघ पूर्णिमा के दिन रविदास जयंती मनाई जाती है। इस बार संत रविदास जी की जयंती 24 फरवरी को है। गुरु रविदास कौन थे और क्यों मनाई जाती है संत रविदास जयंती?

भारत में कई संतों ने लोगों को आपसी प्रेम, सौहार्द और गंगा जमुनी तहजीब सिखाई, इन्हीं में एक थे संत रविदास, जिनका भक्ति आंदोलन और समाज सुधार में विशेष योगदान रहा। ‘मन चंगा तो कठौती में गंगा’ ये मुहावरा आज भी बहुत प्रसिद्ध है, जो रविदास जी ने ही कहा था। 

संत गुरु रविदास जी भारत के महान संतों में से एक हैं, जिन्होंने अपना जीवन समाज सुधार कार्य के लिए समर्पित कर दिया। समाज से जाति विभेद को दूर करने में रविदास जी का महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा। वो ईश्वर को पाने का एक ही मार्ग जानते थे और वो है ‘भक्ति’, इसलिए तो उनका यह मुहावरा आज भी बहुत प्रसिद्ध है ‘मन चंगा तो कठौती में गंगा।'

कौन थे संत रविदास

गुरु रविदास जी भारत के एक महान कवि , दार्शनिक एवं समाज सुधारक थे। संत रविदास जी का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के वाराणसी क्षेत्र में हुआ था। रविदास जी के जन्म को लेकर कई मत हैं, लेकिन रविदास जी के जन्म पर एक दोहा खूब प्रचलित है- "चौदस सो तैंसीस कि माघ सुदी पन्दरास, दुखियों के कल्याण हित प्रगटे श्री गुरु रविदास।" इस पंक्ति के अनुसार गुरु रविदास का जन्म माघ मास की पूर्णिमा को रविवार के दिन 1433 को हुआ था। इसलिए हर साल माघ मास की पूर्णिमा तिथि को रविदास जयंती के रूप में मनाया जाता है जोकि इस वर्ष 24 फरवरी 2024 को है। 

रविदास जी का जन्म 15वीं शताब्दी में उत्तर प्रदेश के वाराणसी में एक मोची परिवार में हुआ। उनके माता जी का नाम कर्मा देवी एवं पिताजी का नाम संतोष दास जी था। उनके दादाजी का नाम कालूराम एवं दादी जी का नाम श्रीमती लखपति जी, पत्नी का नाम श्रीमती लोनाजी और पुत्र का नाम श्रीविजय दास जी है। उनके पिताजी जाति के अनुसार जूते बनाने का पारंपरिक पेशा करते थे, जोकि उस काल में निम्न जाति का माना जाता था। लेकिन अपनी सामान्य पारिवारिक पृष्ठभूमि के बावजूद भी रविदास जी भक्ति आंदोलन, हिंदू धर्म में भक्ति और समतावादी आंदोलन में एक प्रमुख व्यक्ति के रूप में उजागर हुए। 15 वीं शताब्दी में रविदास जी द्वारा चलाया गया भक्ति आंदोलन उस समय का एक बड़ा आध्यात्मिक आंदोलन था। 

गुरु रविदास जी बचपन से ही काफी बहादुर और भगवान के सच्चे भक्त थे। उन्होंने अपनी शिक्षा को पंडित शारदानंद गुरु से प्राप्त किए थे। गुरु रविदास जी जब बड़े हुए तो उनका भक्ति के प्रति स्नेह बढ़ गया था। संत रविदास जी काफी धार्मिक विचार के व्यक्ति थे। इन्होंने आजीविका के लिए पैतृक कार्य को अपनाते हुए भगवान के भक्ति के भावना में हमेशा लीन रहा करते थे। रविदास जी चर्मकार कुल के होने के कारण वह जूते बनाते थे। ऐसा करने में उन्हें काफी आनंद मिलता था अपने कार्य को काफी ईमानदारी परिश्रम एवं लगन के साथ करते थे। लोगों को हमेशा धर्म के रास्ते चलने के लिए शिक्षा देते थे। वह भगवान राम जी के परम भक्त थे।

क्यों मनाई जाती है संत रविदास जयंती

उनके जन्मदिन को ही प्रत्येक वर्ष गुरु रविदास जयंती के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इस त्यौहार को काफी धूमधाम के साथ माघ पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है। इस दिन खास तौर पर लोगों के द्वारा कीर्तन एवं भजन किया जाता है। संत रविदास जी निर्गुण संप्रदाय के एक प्रमुख व्यक्ति थे और उत्तर भारतीय भक्ति आंदोलन का नेतृत्व किए थे।

कहते हैं कि स्वामी रामानंदाचार्य वैष्णो भक्ति धारा के महान संत हैं। संत रविदास उनके शिष्य थे। संत रविदास तो संत कबीर के समकालीन व गुरु भाई माने जाते हैं। स्वयं कबीर दास जी ने "संतन" में रविदास कहकर इन्हें मान्यता दी है। राजस्थान की कृष्ण भक्त कवयित्री मीराबाई उनकी शिष्या थीं। यह भी कहा जाता है कि चित्तौड़ के राणा सांगा की पत्नी झाली रानी उनकी शिष्या बनी थी। वहीं चित्तौड़ में संत रविदास की छतरी बनी हुई है।  मान्यता है कि वह वहीं से स्वर्गारोहन कर गए थे। हालांकि इसका कोई आधिकारिक विवरण उपलब्ध नहीं है, लेकिन कहते हैं कि वाराणसी में 1540 ईस्वी में उन्होंने देह त्याग दिया था।

In India, many saints taught people mutual love, harmony and Ganga-Jamuni culture, one of them was Saint Ravidas, who had a special contribution in the Bhakti movement and social reform. This idiom, ‘If the mind is healed then the Ganga is cut,’ is very famous even today, which was said by Ravidas ji.

Saint Guru Ravidas Ji is one of the great saints of India, who dedicated his life to the work of social reform. Ravidas ji had an important contribution in removing caste discrimination from the society. He knew only one way to reach God and that is 'devotion', that is why his phrase is very famous even today, 'If the mind is healed then the Ganga is in trouble.'

Who was Saint Ravidas

Guru Ravidas ji was a great poet, philosopher and social reformer of India. Saint Ravidas ji was born in Varanasi region of Uttar Pradesh. There are many opinions regarding the birth of Ravidas ji, but a couplet on the birth of Ravidas ji is very popular - "Chaudas so tansis ki magh sudi pandaras, Shri Guru Ravidas progressed in the welfare of the poor." According to this line, Guru Ravidas was born on Sunday, 1433, on the full moon day of Magh month. Therefore, every year the full moon date of Magh month is celebrated as Ravidas Jayanti, which is this year on 24 February 2024.

Ravidas ji was born in a cobbler family in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in the 15th century. His mother's name was Karma Devi and father's name was Santosh Das ji. His grandfather's name is Kaluram and grandmother's name is Mrs. Lakhpati ji, wife's name is Mrs. Lonaji and son's name is Shrivijay Das ji. His father did the traditional profession of shoe making as per the caste, which was considered low caste at that time. But despite his humble family background, Ravidas ji emerged as a prominent figure in the Bhakti movement, devotion in Hinduism and the egalitarian movement. The Bhakti movement started by Ravidas ji in the 15th century was a major spiritual movement of that time.

Guru Ravidas ji was very brave since childhood and a true devotee of God. He received his education from Pandit Shardanand Guru. When Guru Ravidas ji grew up, his love for devotion increased. Saint Ravidas ji was a person of very religious thoughts. He adopted his ancestral work for livelihood and was always engrossed in the feeling of devotion to God. Since Ravidas ji belonged to a cobbler family, he used to make shoes. He enjoyed doing this a lot and did his work with utmost honesty, hard work and dedication. Always taught people to follow the path of religion. He was a great devotee of Lord Ram.

Why is Sant Ravidas Jayanti celebrated?

His birthday is celebrated every year as Guru Ravidas Jayanti. This festival is celebrated with much pomp and show on the day of Magh Purnima. Kirtan and bhajan are especially performed by people on this day. Saint Ravidas Ji was a prominent figure of the Nirguna sect and led the North Indian Bhakti movement.

It is said that Swami Ramanandacharya is a great saint of Vaishno Bhakti stream. Saint Ravidas was his disciple. Saint Ravidas is considered to be the contemporary and guru brother of Saint Kabir. Kabir Das ji himself has recognized him by calling him Ravidas in "Santan". Krishna devotee poetess Meerabai of Rajasthan was his disciple. It is also said that Jhali Rani, wife of Rana Sanga of Chittor, became his disciple. There is an umbrella of Saint Ravidas in Chittor. It is believed that he ascended to heaven from there. Although no official details are available, it is said that he left his body in Varanasi in 1540 AD.
