आज हम एक और बहुत ही खूबसूरत चिड़िया की चर्चा करेंगे जो नागालैंड का राजकीय पक्षी है। इसका नाम है "ब्लिथ ट्रैगोपान", जो छोटी पूँछ वाला तीतर जैसा बड़ा पक्षी है। ब्लिथ ट्रैगोपैन, तीतर की है एक प्रजाति है, (नागालैंड का देशी पक्षी है), जो कोहिमा जिले के जाप्फू पर्वत और दज़ुकौ घाटी में, जुन्हेबोटो जिले में सातोई किस्म और फेक जिले में पफुत्सेरो में पाया जाता है।

नागालैंड को "विश्व की बाज़ राजधानी" के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। नागालैंड में लगभग दस लाख अमूर बाज़ रहते हैं। यानी प्रति वर्ग किलोमीटर लगभग 50 बाज़। नागालैंड का लगभग छठा हिस्सा उष्णकटिबंधीय और उपोष्णकटिबंधीय सदाबहार जंगलों से ढका हुआ है - जिसमें ताड़, बांस, रतन के साथ-साथ लकड़ी और महोगनी के जंगल शामिल हैं। जबकि कुछ वन क्षेत्रों को झूम खेती के लिए साफ़ कर दिया गया है। ग्रेट इंडियन हॉर्नबिल राज्य में पाए जाने वाले सबसे प्रसिद्ध पक्षियों में से एक है।

ब्लिथ ट्रैगोपान पक्षीयों में नर का चेहरा पीला, ऊपरी भाग सफेद धब्बों वाला धूसर, चमकदार लाल स्तन और सिर का पिछला भाग और पूंछ के आधार पर एक सफेद पट्टी होती है। मादा पूरी तरह से भूरे रंग की होती है, जिसमें एक समान पीला धब्बा और एक अस्पष्ट पीला आँख का छल्ला होता है। ये प्रजातियाँ जीनस में सबसे बड़ी हैं। तीतरों की तरह नर भी चमकीले रंग के होते हैं। सिर का रंग जंग जैसा लाल है और पंख सफेद बिंदुओं से युक्त है। जीनस के अन्य सदस्यों की तरह, नर के भी दो हल्के नीले सींग होते हैं। वे कीड़े, कीड़े, बीज, जामुन, फलियाँ, फल और कलियाँ खाते हैं। यह घने सदाबहार पर्वतीय जंगलों में होता है, जहां यह झाड़ियों में भोजन करता है। गाना ज़ोर से चिल्लाने वाला है, "ऊओआआआह।"

ब्लिथ का ट्रैगोपैन तीतर परिवार फासियानिडे से संबंधित है। वे भूटान, उत्तर-पूर्व भारत, म्यांमार, तिब्बत और चीन में वितरित किए जाते हैं। उनकी आबादी घट रही है। अनुमानतः लगभग 10,000 पक्षी ही हैं। ये पक्षी सदाबहार ओक और रोडोडेंड्रोन जंगलों को पसंद करते हैं। इसकी दो उप-प्रजातियाँ हैं और एक उप-प्रजाति, टी. बी. ब्लिथी, पूर्वोत्तर भारत के हिमालय, दक्षिण पश्चिम चीन और उत्तरी म्यांमार में पाया जाता है।

Blyth's Tragopan (Tragopan blythii)

Today we will discuss about another very beautiful bird which is the state bird of Nagaland. Its name is "Blyth Tragopan", which is a large pheasant-like bird with a short tail. Blyth's tragopan is a species of pheasant, (native bird of Nagaland), found in Japfu Mountains and Dzukou Valley in Kohima district, Satoi variety in Zunheboto district and Pafutsero in Phek district.

Nagaland is also known as the "Falcon Capital of the World". About one million Amur falcons live in Nagaland. Means about 50 hawks per square kilometer. About one-sixth of Nagaland is covered by tropical and sub-tropical evergreen forests – including palm, bamboo, rattan as well as timber and mahogany forests. While some forest areas have been cleared for jhum cultivation. The Great Indian Hornbill is one of the most famous birds found in the state.

In Blyth tragopans, the male has a yellow face, gray upperparts with white spots, a bright red breast and nape, and a white stripe at the base of the tail. The female is entirely brown, with a uniform yellow spot and an indistinct yellow eye-ring. These species are the largest in the genus. Like pheasants, males are also brightly colored. The color of the head is rusty red and the wings are dotted with white. Like other members of the genus, the male also has two pale blue horns. They eat insects, worms, seeds, berries, beans, fruits, and buds. It occurs in dense evergreen montane forests, where it feeds in shrubs. The song is about screaming, "Ooaaah."

Blyth's tragopan belongs to the pheasant family Phasianidae. They are distributed in Bhutan, Northeast India, Myanmar, Tibet and China. Their population is decreasing. It is estimated that there are only about 10,000 birds. These birds prefer evergreen oak and rhododendron forests. It has two subspecies and one subspecies, T. b. blithii is found in the Himalayas of northeastern India, southwest China, and northern Myanmar.
