उज्जैन का नागचंद्रेश्वर मंदिर

साल में केवल एक दिन खुलने वाला मंदिर !!

हिंदू धर्म में सदियों से नागों की पूजा करने की परंपरा रही है। हिंदू परंपरा में नागों को भगवान का आभूषण भी माना गया है। भारत में नागों के अनेक मंदिर हैं इन्हीं में से एक मंदिर है उज्जैन स्थित नागचंद्रेश्वर का, जो की उज्जैन के प्रसिद्ध महाकाल मंदिर की तीसरी मंजिल पर स्थित है। इसकी खास बात यह है कि यह मंदिर साल में सिर्फ एक दिन नागपंचमी (श्रावण शुक्ल पंचमी) पर ही दर्शनों के लिए खोला जाता है। 

ऐसी मान्यता है कि नागराज तक्षक स्वयं मंदिर में रहते हैं। नागचंद्रेश्वर मंदिर में 17वीं शताब्दी की एक अद्भुत प्रतिमा है, इसमें फ फैलाए नाग के आसन पर शिव-पार्वती बैठे हैं। कहते हैं यह प्रतिमा नेपाल से यहां लाई गई थी। उज्जैन के अलावा दुनिया में कहीं भी ऐसी प्रतिमा नहीं है। पूरी दुनिया में यह एकमात्र ऐसा मंदिर है, जिसमें विष्णु भगवान की जगह भगवान भोलेनाथ सर्प शय्या पर विराजमान हैं। मंदिर में स्थापित प्राचीन मूर्ति में शिवजी, गणेशजी और मां पार्वती के साथ दशमुखी सर्प शय्या पर विराजित हैं। शिवशंभु के गले और भुजाओं में भुजंग लिपटे हुए हैं। 

पौराणिक मान्यताओं के मुताबिक भगवान भोलेनाथ को प्रसन्न करने के लिए सर्पराज तक्षक ने घोर तपस्या की थी। सर्पराज की तपस्या से भगवान शंकर खुश हुए और फिर उन्होंने सर्पों के राजा तक्षक नाग को वरदान के रूप में अमरत्व दिया। उसके बाद से ही तक्षक राजा ने प्रभु के सान्निध्य में ही वास करना शुरू कर दिया। लेकिन महाकाल वन में वास करने से पूर्व उनकी यही मंशा थी कि उनके एकांत में विघ्न ना हो इस वजह से सिर्फ नागपंचमी के दिन ही उनके मंदिर को खोला जाता है।

The temple which opens only one day in a year!!

Hinduism has had a tradition of worshiping snakes for centuries. In Hindu tradition, snakes have also been considered as ornaments of God. There are many temples of snakes in India, one of them is the temple of Nagchandreshwar located in Ujjain, which is situated on the third floor of the famous Mahakal temple of Ujjain. Its special thing is that this temple is opened for darshan only one day in a year on Nagpanchami (Shravan Shukla Panchami).

It is believed that Nagraj Takshak himself resides in the temple. The Nagchandreshwar temple has a wonderful statue of 17th century, in which Shiva-Parvati are sitting on the seat of a snake with spread wings. It is said that this statue was brought here from Nepal. There is no such statue anywhere in the world except Ujjain. This is the only temple in the whole world, in which Lord Bholenath is sitting on a snake bed instead of Lord Vishnu. In the ancient idol installed in the temple, Shivji, Ganeshji and Maa Parvati along with Dashmukhi snake are sitting on the bed. Bhujang is wrapped around Shivshambhu's neck and arms.

According to mythological beliefs, Sarpraj Takshak had done severe penance to please Lord Bholenath. Lord Shankar was pleased with the penance of Sarpraj and then he gave immortality as a boon to Takshak Nag, the king of snakes. From then on, Takshak Raja started living in the presence of the Lord. But before living in the Mahakal forest, he had the same intention that his solitude should not be disturbed, because of this his temple is opened only on the day of Nagpanchami.
