एपिफाइलम ऑक्सीपेटालम (Epiphyllum Oxypetalum) श्रीलंका के जंगलों में पाया जाता है और बौद्ध धर्म में इसका खासा महत्व है। इस फूल की खासियत यह है कि यह सिर्फ रात में खिलता है और सुबह होने से पहले ही मुरझा जाता है।

एपिफिलम ऑक्सीपेटालम को आमतौर पर "नाइट ब्लूमिंग सेरेस" कहा जाता है। एक समय में इसका वानस्पतिक नाम Cereus था। अब यह एक Epiphyllum है। यह एक पुराना हिरलूम पौधा है जिसमें बड़े सफेद फूल होते हैं, जो रात में खिलते हैं। प्रत्येक फूल केवल एक रात के लिए खुला रहता है।

फूल रात्रिचर होते हैं। वे चपटे तनों पर उगते हैं और 30 सेमी (12 इंच) लंबे और 17 सेमी (7 इंच) चौड़े, निशाचर और बहुत सुगंधित होते हैं। फल आयताकार होते हैं, 12 x 8 सेमी तक ऊपर, बैंगनी लाल और कोणीय होते हैं।

Epiphyllum oxypetalum is commonly called "night blooming cereus". At one time its botanical name was Cereus. Now it's an Epiphyllum. It is an old heirloom plant with large white flowers that bloom at night. Each flower remains open for only one night.

Epiphyllum oxypetalum (Princess of the Night or Queen of the Night) is a species of cactus. It blooms at night, and its flowers wither before dawn. Although it is sometimes referred to as night-blooming cereus, it is not closely related to any species in the tribe Cereus, such as Selenicereus, which is commonly known as night-blooming cereus. . All species of Cereus bloom at night and are terrestrial plants.

Its stems are erect, erect, scandent or spreading and highly branched. The primary stems are up to 6 m (600 cm) tall. The secondary stems are flat, elliptic-pointed, up to 30 cm × 12 cm (12 in × 5 in). The edge of the stem is shallowly deeply convex and wavy. Stems appear waxy so cutin may be present. Cutin reduces water loss from stems. A gel-like substance comes out when the stem is cut. Stems contain a lot of water-filled tissue.

Flowers are nocturnal. They grow on flattened stems and are up to 30 cm (12 in) tall and 17 cm (7 in) wide, nocturnal and very fragrant. The fruits are oblong, up to 12 x 8 cm, purplish red and angular.
