तेनालीराम मटके में

एक बार महाराज कृष्णदेव राय तेनालीराम से इतने नाराज़ हो गए कि उन्होंने उसे अपनी शक्ल न दिखाने का आदेश दे दिया और कहा - "अगर उसने उनके हुक्म की अवहेलना की तो उसे कोड़े लगायें जाएंगे।"

महाराज उस समय बहुत क्रोधित थे इसलिए तेनालीराम ने वहाँ से जाना ही उचित समझा। अगले दिन जब महाराज राजदरबार की ओर आ रहे थे, तो तेनालीराम से चिढ़ने वाला एक दरबारी महाराज को तेनालीराम के खिलाफ भड़काता जा रहा था।

वह महाराज से बोला- "आज तो तेनालीराम ने आपके आदेश की अवहेलना की है। आपके मना करने के बावजूद भी वह दरबार में आया है और वहाँ ऊल -जुलूल हरकते करके सबको हंसा रहा है।"

दरबारी की बात सुनकर महाराज के कदम तेज़ी से राजदरबार की ओर बढ़ने लगे। राजदरबार पहुँचते ही महाराज ने देखा की तेनालीराम ने अपने मुख पर मटका पहन रखा है, जिसमें आँख की जगह दो छेद बने हुए हैं। यह देखते ही महाराज आग- बबूला हो गए और तेनालीराम पर गरजे , "एक तो तुमने हमारा हुक्म नहीं माना और ऊपर से ये अजीबो – गरीब हरकतें कर रहे हो। अब तो तुम कोड़े खाने के लिए तैयार हो जाओ। जैसे ही महाराज ने ये कहा, तेनालीराम के विरोधी बहुत खुश हुए लेकिन तभी तेनालीराम बोले, "महाराज मैंने तो आपकी किसी आज्ञा का उल्लंघन नहीं किया है। आपका आदेश था की मैं आपको अपना चेहरा न दिखाऊँ। क्या आपको कहीं से मेरा चेहरा दिख रहा है? यदि ऐसा है, तो जरुर उस कुम्हार ने मुझे फूटा हुआ मटका दे दिया है।"

तेनालीराम की बात सुनते ही महाराज का गुस्सा छूमंतर हो गया और उनकी हंसी छूट पड़ी। वे बोले, "किसी ने सच ही कहा है कि बेवकूफों और विदूषकों पर नाराज़ होना व्यर्थ है। तुम्हारी बुद्धि के आगे हमारा गुस्सा करना मुमकिन ही नहीं है। अब इस मटके से मुंह को बाहर निकालो और अपने आसन पर बैठ जाओ। तेनालीराम के विरोधी फिर से मन मारकर रह गए।

Once Maharaja Krishnadeva Raya became so angry with Tenalirama that he ordered him not to show his face and said - "If he disobeyed his orders, he would be flogged."

Maharaj was very angry at that time, so Tenaliram thought it appropriate to leave from there. The next day when Maharaj was coming towards the court, a courtier who was annoyed with Tenaliram was inciting Maharaj against Tenaliram.

He said to the Maharaj- "Today Tenaliram has disobeyed your order. Despite your refusal, he has come to the court and is making everyone laugh there by doing ruckus."

After listening to the courtier, the steps of the Maharaj started moving rapidly towards the court. On reaching the court, Maharaj saw that Tenaliram was wearing a matka on his face, in which two holes were made instead of eyes. On seeing this, Maharaj became furious and roared at Tenaliram, "First of all, you have not obeyed our orders and are doing these strange and poor things from above. Now you are ready to be flogged. As soon as Maharaj said this Said, Tenaliram's opponents were very happy, but then Tenaliram said, "Your Majesty, I have not violated any of your orders. Your order was that I should not show you my face. Can you see my face from somewhere? If so, then the potter must have given me a broken pot."

On hearing Tenaliram, Maharaj's anger dissipated and he laughed. He said, "Someone has rightly said that it is futile to be angry with idiots and clowns. Now take out your mouth from this pot and sit on your seat. Tenaliram's opponents were again stunned.
