ब्राह्मण किसकी पूजा करे

एक दिन महाराज कृष्णदेव राय ने कहा - "सभी दरबारीयों तथा मंत्रीगणों को यह आभास तो हो ही गया होगा कि आज दरबार में कोई विशेष कार्य नहीं है और ईश्वर की कृपा से किसी की कोई समस्या भी हमारे सम्मुख नहीं आई, तो क्यों न किसी विषय पर चर्चा की जाए। क्या आप जैसे योग्य मंत्रियों व दरबारियों में से कोई सुझा सकता है ऐसा विषय, जिस पर चर्चा कराई जा सके?"

तभी तेनालीराम बोले, "महाराज! विषय का निर्णय आप ही करें तो अच्छा होगा।"

महाराज ने कुछ सोचा और फिर बोले, "जैसा कि आप सभी जानते हैं कि क्षत्रिय, वैश्य, शूद्र सभी ब्राह्मण को पूजनीय मानते हैं, पर ब्राह्मण किसको पूजनीय मानें ?"

सभी दरबारियों व मन्त्रियों को महाराज का यह प्रश्न बेहद सरल प्रतीत हुआ। इसमें कठिनाई क्या है महाराज ? ब्राह्मण गाय को पवित्र मानते हैं। गाय जो कामधेनु का प्रतीक है। एक मंत्री ने उत्तर दिया।

दरबार में उपस्थित सभी लोग उससे सहमत लगे।

तभी महाराज बोले, "तेनालीराम, क्या तुम भी इस उत्तर से संतुष्ट हो या तुम्हारी कुछ अगल राय है।"

तेनालीराम हाथ जोड़ते हुए विनम्र भाव से बोले, "महाराज ! गाय को तो सभी पवित्र मानते हैं, चाहे मानव हो या देवता। और ऐसा मानने वाला मैं अकेला नहीं, हमारे विद्वान की राय भी कुछ ऐसी ही है।"

यदि ऐसा है तो ब्राह्मण गौ-चर्म (गाय की खाल) से बने जूते-चप्पल क्यों पहनते हैं ? महाराज ने फिर पूछा। दरबार में चहुं ओर चुप्पी छा गई।

दरअसल महाराज ने जो कुछ भी कहा था, वह बिल्कुल सच था। इस प्रश्न का उत्तर किसी के पास न था। सबको चुप देखकर महाराज ने घोषणा की जो भी उनके इस प्रश्न का संतोषजनक उत्तर देगा, उसे एक हजार स्वर्ण मुद्राएं पुरस्कार स्वरूप दी जाएंगी।

हजार स्वर्ण मुद्राओं का पुरस्कार दरबार में उपस्थित हर कोई लेना चाहता था, लेकिन प्रश्न का उत्तर कोई नहीं जानता था।

सभी को चुप बैठा देखकर तेनालीराम अपने आसन से उठते हुए बोले, महाराज! "ब्राह्मण के चरण (पैर) बेहद पवित्र माने जाते हैं। उतने ही पवित्र, जितना कि किसी तीर्थ धाम की यात्रा। अतः गौ-चर्म से बने जूते-चप्पल पहनने से गायों को मोक्ष मिल जाता है।"

गलत तो हर हाल में गलत है। महाराज बोले, "गौ-चर्म से बने जूते-चप्पल पहनना जायज नहीं कहा जा सकता, फिर चाहे पहनने वाला ब्राह्मण हो या किसी अन्य वर्ग का। लेकिन मुझे खुशी इस बात की है कि तेनालीराम ने उत्तर देने का साहस तो किया। चतुराई भरा उसका उत्तर उसे हजार स्वर्ण मुद्राएं दिलाने के लिए काफी है।"

Who should a Brahmin Worship

One day Maharaj Krishna Deva Raya said - "All the courtiers and ministers must have realized that today there is no special work in the court and no one's problem has come before us by the grace of God, so why not any subject to be discussed. Can any of the qualified ministers and courtiers like you suggest such a subject to be discussed?"

Then Tenaliram said, "Your Majesty! It would be better if you decide the subject yourself."

The Maharaj thought for a while and then said, "As you all know that Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras all consider Brahmins to be worshipable, but whom Brahmins should be worshipped?"

Maharaj's question seemed very simple to all the courtiers and ministers. What is the difficulty in this, sir? Brahmins consider the cow to be holy. Cow which is the symbol of Kamadhenu. A minister replied.

Everyone present in the court seemed to agree with him.

Then Maharaj said, "Tenaliram, are you also satisfied with this answer or do you have a different opinion."

Tenaliram with folded hands said in a humble gesture, "Maharaj! Cow is considered sacred by all, whether human or deity. And I am not the only one to believe so, our scholar's opinion is also similar."

If so why do Brahmins wear shoes and slippers made of cow skin (cow skin)? Maharaj asked again. There was silence all around in the court.

Actually whatever Maharaj had said was absolutely true. No one had the answer to this question. Seeing everyone silent, Maharaj announced that whoever gives a satisfactory answer to this question, one thousand gold coins will be given as a reward.

Everyone present in the court wanted to take the prize of thousand gold coins, but no one knew the answer to the question.

Seeing everyone sitting silent, Tenaliram got up from his seat and said, Maharaj! "The feet (feet) of a brahmin are considered very sacred. As holy as a visit to a pilgrimage destination. Therefore, wearing shoes and slippers made of cow-skin gives salvation to the cows."

Wrong is always wrong. Maharaj said, "Wearing footwear made of cow-skin cannot be said to be justified, whether the wearer is a Brahmin or of any other class. But I am glad that Tenaliram dared to answer. Cleverly His answer is enough to get him a thousand gold coins."
