History of the Temple

This temple is being told by some agencies as 400 years old. This temple was discovered during excavation work in the southeast of Kadu Mallikarjuna temple in 1997 AD. However, BN Sundar Rao in his book 'Bangaloreina Itihasa' states that this Kalyani was built by Late Rao Bahadur Yele Mallappa Shetty along with the temple and Shivling. Kalyani was built around 1882 AD, sometime after the construction of Sanki Tank. The downstream stream from Sanki Tank was seen flowing towards the place by Mallappa Shetty. He constructed a pipe from here to the mouth of Nandi so that water would flow slowly from the mouth of Nandi throughout the year to the idol of Shivalinga (Nandikeshwar), which was installed just below. This water was then channeled into a kalyani (stepped tank), which is slightly below the temple, so that the excess water would flow into a well found in the garden opposite the south entrance of the temple.

Rediscovering the Temple

At some point in its history, the Nandi Tirtha Kalyani Temple became unusable and gradually got buried under mud and filth, as the area was below the surrounding ground level and there was no gopuram minaret, eventually the entire structure of this temple was underground. happened.

As Malleswaram developed as Bengaluru's preferred residential area, property prices here increased significantly. In 1997, an attempt was made to grab this temple area and sell it as vacant land.

After protests from local residents, the land in question was dug up and the temple complex slowly came out from under the mud and dirt.
