महाराष्ट्र में पुणे के पास अष्टविनायक(Ashtavinayak) के आठ पावन मंदिर हैं, जहां भगवान गणेश अलग-अलग रूप में विराजित हैं। ये मंदिर 20 से 110 किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में स्थित हैं। मान्यता है कि इन मंदिरों में स्थापित गणेश जी की मूर्तियां स्वयंभू हैं। कहा जाता है कि इन सभी का वर्णन गणेश और मुद्गल पुराण में पढ़ने को मिलता है, जो हिंदू धर्म के पवित्र ग्रंथों का समूह है। इन आठ गणपति धामों की यात्रा अष्टविनायक तीर्थ यात्रा के नाम से जानी जाती है।' अष्टविनायक' के सभी 8 मंदिर प्राचीन हैं, इनका नाम इस प्रकार है -

बल्लालेश्वर मंदिर, रायगढ़
वरद विनायक मंदिर, रायगढ़
चिंतामणि मंदिर, पुणे
गिरिजात्मज अष्टविनायक मंदिर, पुणे
विघ्नेश्वर अष्टविनायक मंदिर, ओझर
महागणपति मंदिर, राजणगांव

इन सभी मंदिरों का महत्व गणेश और मुद्गल पुराण जैसे ग्रंथों में भी वर्णित है। इन गणपति धामों की यात्रा को अष्टविनायक तीर्थ यात्रा के नाम से बुलाया जाता है। इन पवित्र प्रतिमाओं के प्राप्त होने के क्रम के अनुसार ही अष्टविनायक मंदिर का दर्शन किया जाता है।

मयूरेश्वर मंदिर मोरगांव

कहते हैं कि मोरे गांव का नाम मोर पर पड़ा है, क्योंकि यह स्थान मोरों से भरा हुआ था। यह गांव करहा नदी के किनारे पुणे से 80 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित है। मयूरेश्वर मंदिर के चारों कोनों में मीनारें और लंबे पत्थरों की दीवारें हैं। मंदिर के चार द्वार हैं, जिन्हें चारों युग सतयुग, त्रेता युग, द्वापर युग और कलयुग का प्रतीक माना जाता है। मंदिर के द्वार पर शिव जी के वाहन नंदी बैल की मूर्ति स्थापित है, जिसका मुख भगवान गणेश की मूर्ति की ओर है। कुछ प्राचीन कथाओं के अनुसार एक बार भगवान शिव और नंदी इस क्षेत्र में विश्राम के लिए रुके थे। नंदी को यह स्थान इतना भाया कि उन्होंने यहां से जाने से मना कर दिया और यहीं ठहर गए, तब से उनकी प्रतिमा स्थापित है। शिव के नंदी और गणपति के मूसक दोनों ही मंदिर के रक्षक के रूप में यहां उपस्थित है। मंदिर में गणेश जी बैठे मुद्रा में विराजमान है, और उनकी सूंड बायीं ओर है। प्रतिमा की चारभुजा और तीन नेत्र हैं।ऐसा माना जाता है कि स्वयं ब्रह्मा जी ने इस मूर्ति को दो बार पवित्र किया है, जिससे यह अविनाशी हो गई है।

एक अन्य कथा अनुसार, इस स्थान पर श्री गणेश ने सिंधुरासुर राक्षस से मोर पर सवार होकर युद्ध किया और उसका वध कर दिया इसी कारण यहां स्थित गणेश जी को मयूरेश्वर कहा जाता है।

The importance of all these temples is also mentioned in texts like Ganesha and Mudgal Purana. The visit to these Ganpati shrines is called Ashtavinayak pilgrimage. The Ashtavinayak temple is visited according to the order of receipt of these holy idols.

Mayureshwar Temple Morgaon

It is said that the village of More is named after the peacock, because this place was full of peacocks. This village is situated 80 km away from Pune on the banks of river Karha. Mayureshwar temple has towers and tall stone walls at the four corners. The temple has four gates, which are considered to be symbols of the four eras, Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga and Kali Yuga. The idol of Nandi bull, the vehicle of Shiva, is installed at the entrance of the temple, which faces towards the idol of Lord Ganesha. According to some ancient legends, once Lord Shiva and Nandi stayed in this area for rest. Nandi liked this place so much that he refused to go from here and stayed here, since then his statue has been installed. Shiva's Nandi and Ganapati's mouse are both present here as protectors of the temple. In the temple, Ganesh ji is seated in a sitting posture, and his trunk is on the left. The idol has four arms and three eyes. It is believed that Lord Brahma himself has sanctified this idol twice, making it imperishable.

According to another legend, at this place Shri Ganesha fought on a peacock with the demon Sindhurasura and killed him, that is why the Ganesha located here is called Mayureshwar.
