विश्व प्रसिद्ध काशी विश्वनाथ मंदिर (Kashi Vishwanath Temple) वाराणसी में गंगा तट पर कई हजार वर्षों से विद्यमान है। काशी विश्वनाथ मंदिर 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक है। यह मंदिर विश्वनाथ जी या विश्वेश्वर के नाम से जाना जाता है जिसका अर्थ संपूर्ण ब्रह्मांड का शासक है। काशी विश्वनाथ मंदिर का हिंदू धर्म में एक विशिष्ट स्थान है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि एक बार इस मंदिर का दर्शन कर लेना और पवित्र गंगा में स्नान कर लेने से मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। काशी विश्वनाथ मंदिर (Kashi Vishwanath Temple) में दर्शन करने के लिए आदि शंकराचार्य, संत एकनाथ, रामकृष्ण परमहंस, स्वामी विवेकानंद, गोस्वामी तुलसीदास आदि शंकराचार्य, महर्षि दयानंद सभी का आगमन हुआ है।

दो हिस्सों में बंटा है ज्योतिर्लिंग

काशी विश्वनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग दो हिस्सों में बटा हुआ है। दाहिने हिस्से में शक्ति के रूप में मां भगवती विराजती हैं, वहीं दूसरी तरफ भगवान शिव वाम रूप में विराजमान हैं। माना जाता है कि यहां पर मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। इस ज्योतिर्लिंग में शिव और शक्ति दोनों साथ ही विराजते हैं, ऐसा अद्भुत संयोग दुनिया में कहीं और देखने को नहीं मिलता है।

तांत्रिक सिद्धि के लिए प्रसिद्ध है मंदिर

विश्वनाथ दरबार में ऊपर की ओर गुंबद श्री यंत्र से मंडित है और इसे तांत्रिक सिद्धि के लिए उपयुक्त स्थान माना जाता है। तंत्र साधना के लिए यहां बहुत साधु सन्यासी आते हैं। बाबा विश्वनाथ मंदिर के 4 प्रमुख द्वार हैं-शांति द्वार, कला द्वार, प्रतिष्ठा द्वार और निवृति द्वार। इन चारों दीवारों का तंत्र विद्या में अलग से वर्णन मिलता है। यही एक ऐसा स्थान है जहां शिव और शक्ति दोनों एक साथ विराजमान हैं और तंत्र द्वार भी है।

ईशान कोण में स्थित है बाबा विश्वनाथ

गर्भ गृह में ज्योतिर्लिंग ईशान कोण में स्थित है और मुख्य द्वार दक्षिण दिशा की ओर है। इससे यहां प्रवेश करते हुए श्रद्धालुओं को बाबा के अघोर रूप का दर्शन होता है और समस्त पापों से मुक्ति भी मिलती है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि बाबा विश्वनाथ का मंदिर उनके त्रिशूल पर विराजमान है, इसलिए यहां कभी प्रलय नहीं आ सकती ।

गुरु और राजा के रूप में विराजते हैं बाबा विश्वनाथ

मान्यता है कि बाबा विश्वनाथ काशी में गुरु और राजा के रूप में विराजते हैं। दिन में वह काशी में गुरु रूप में और रात में नौ बजे अपनी श्रृंगार आरती के बाद राजवेश में भ्रमण करते हैं। यही वजह है कि यहां शिव को राज-राजेश्वर भी कहा जाता है।

आक्रमण

इतिहासकारों के अनुसार इस भव्य मंदिर को 1194 में मोहम्मद गोरी द्वारा तोड़ा गया था। इसे फिर से बनाया गया, लेकिन इसे फिर से सन 1447 में जौनपुर के सुल्तान महमूद शाह द्वारा तोड़ दिया गया। पुनः सन 1585 ईस्वी में राजा टोडरमल की सहायता से पंडित नारायण भट्ट द्वारा इस स्थान पर फिर से एक भव्य मंदिर का निर्माण किया गया। इस भव्य मंदिर को सन 1632 में शाहजहां ने आदेश पारित कर इसे तोड़ने के लिए सेना भेज दी। सेना हिंदुओं के प्रबल विरोध के कारण विश्वनाथ मंदिर के केंद्रीय मंदिर को तो नहीं तोड़ सकी लेकिन काशी के अन्य 63 मंदिर तोड़ दिए गए।

  डॉ एस भट्ट ने अपनी किताब दान हरावली में यह जिक्र किया है कि टोडरमल ने मंदिर का पुनर्निर्माण 1585 ईसवी में करवाया था। 18 अप्रैल 1669 को औरंगजेब ने फरमान जारी कर काशी विश्वनाथ मंदिर ध्वस्त करने का आदेश दिया। यह फरमान एशियाटिक लाइब्रेरी कोलकाता में आज भी सुरक्षित है। 2 सितंबर 1669 को औरंगजेब को मंदिर तोड़ने का कार्य पूरा होने की सूचना दी गई थी।औरंगजेब के आदेश पर यहां का मंदिर तोड़कर एक ज्ञानवापी मस्जिद बनाई गई। औरंगजेब ने प्रतिदिन हजारों ब्राह्मणों को मुसलमान बनाने का भी आदेश पारित किया था।

अहिल्याबाई होल्कर ने इस मंदिर का जीर्णोद्धार किया

विश्वनाथ मंदिर के मूल मंदिर के पूजा की परंपरा अतीत के इतिहास के अज्ञात युगों तक चली गई है। वर्तमान मंदिर अधिक प्राचीन नहीं है।सन् 1777- 80 में इंदौर की महारानी अहिल्याबाई होल्कर द्वारा इस मंदिर का जीर्णोद्धार करवाया गया था। अहिल्याबाई होल्कर ने इसी परिसर में विश्वनाथ मंदिर बनवाया जिस पर पंजाब के महाराजा रणजीत सिंह ने 1853 में 1000 किलोग्राम सोना छत्र पर चढ़वाया। ग्वालियर की महारानी बैजाबाई ने ज्ञानवापी का मंडप बनवाया और नेपाल नरेश ने वहां विशाल नंदी की प्रतिमा स्थापित करवाई।

मान्यता

एक कथा के अनुसार महाराज सुदेव के पुत्र राजा दिवोदास ने गंगा तट पर वाराणसी नगर बसाया था। एक बार भगवान शंकर ने देखा कि पार्वती जी को अपने मायके (हिमालय क्षेत्र) मैं रहने में संकोच होता है, तो उन्होंने किसी दूसरे सिद्ध क्षेत्र में रहने का विचार बनाया। उन्हें काशी अतिप्रिय लगी और वे यहां रहने आ गए। भगवान शिव के सानिध्य में रहने के लिए देवता भी काशी आ गए।

   ज्येष्ठ मास के शुक्लपक्ष की एकादशी तिथि (निर्जला एकादशी) के दिन श्री काशीविश्वनाथ की वार्षिक कलश-यात्रा वाराणसी में बडी धूमधाम एवं श्रद्धा के साथ आयोजित होती है, जिसमें बाबा का पंचमहानदियों के जल से अभिषेक होता है।

Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple

 The world famous Kashi Vishwanath temple has been existing on Varanasi for several thousand years. Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. This temple is known as Vishwanath ji or Visvesvara which means the ruler of the entire universe. Kashi Vishwanath Temple has a special place in Hinduism. It is believed that once visiting this temple and taking a bath in the holy Ganges, one gets salvation. Adi Shankara, Sant Eknath, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Goswami Tulsidas etc. Adi Shankaracharya, Maharishi Dayanand have all come to visit this temple.

 Jyotirlinga is divided into two

 Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga is divided into two parts. On the right side, Mother Bhagwati resides in the form of Shakti, on the other hand Lord Shiva is seated in the left form. It is believed that salvation is attained here. In this Jyotirlinga, both Shiva and Shakti sit together, such a wonderful coincidence is not seen anywhere else in the world.

 The temple is famous for Tantric Siddhi

 The upward dome in the Vishwanath court is adorned with Sri Yantra and is considered a suitable place for Tantric accomplishment. Many sadhus ascetics come here for tantra practice. There are 4 major gates of Baba Vishwanath Temple - Shanti Gate, Kala Gate, Pratishtha Gate and Nivruti Gate. These four walls are described separately in Tantra Vidya. This is the place where both Shiva and Shakti are seated together and there is also a tantra door.

 Baba Vishwanath is located in the Northeast

 The Jyotirlinga in the Garbha Griha is situated in the northeast and the main gate is towards the south. Entering here, devotees get a glimpse of Aghor form of Baba and also get freedom from all sins. It is believed that the temple of Baba Vishwanath is seated on his trident, hence the Holocaust can never come here.

 Baba Vishwanath sits as Guru and King

 It is believed that Baba Vishwanath resides in Kashi as Guru and King. During the day, he visits Kashi as a guru and at nine o'clock in the night at Rajesh after his Shringar Aarti. This is the reason that Shiva is also called Raj-Rajeshwar here.

 Attack

 According to historians, this magnificent temple was demolished in 1194 by Mohammad Ghori. It was rebuilt, but it was again demolished in 1447 by Mahmud Shah, the Sultan of Jaunpur. Again in 1585 AD a grand temple was again built at this place by Pandit Narayan Bhatt with the help of King Todarmal. In 1632, Shah Jahan passed orders to this magnificent temple and sent an army to break it. The army could not break the central temple of Vishwanath temple due to strong opposition from Hindus but the other 63 temples of Kashi were destroyed.

 Dr. S. Bhatt in his book Dan Haravali has mentioned that Todarmal renovated the temple in 1585 AD. On 18 April 1669, Aurangzeb issued a decree ordering the demolition of the Kashi Vishwanath temple. This decree is still preserved in the Asiatic Library Kolkata. On 2 September 1669, Aurangzeb was reported to have completed the temple demolition. On the orders of Aurangzeb, the temple here was broken and a Gyanvapi mosque was built. Aurangzeb also passed orders to convert thousands of Brahmins to Muslims every day.

 Ahilyabai Holkar renovated this temple

 The tradition of worship of the original temple of Vishwanath Temple has gone back to unknown eras of past history. The present temple is not very ancient. This temple was renovated in 1777-80 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore. Ahilyabai Holkar built the Vishwanath Temple in this complex, on which Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab in 10003 offered 1000 kg of gold on the umbrella. Maharani Baijabai of Gwalior built the pavilion of Gyanvapi and the King of Nepal installed a huge Nandi statue there.

 Recognition

 According to a legend, King Divodas, son of Maharaja Sudev, settled Varanasi city on the banks of the Ganges. Once Lord Shankar saw that Parvati ji was hesitant to live in her maiden (Himalayan region), then she made the idea to live in some other proven region. He found Kashi very popular and came to live here. The gods also came to Kashi to live in the company of Lord Shiva.

 On the Ekadashi date (Nirjala Ekadashi) of Shukla Paksha of Jyestha month, the annual Kalash Yatra of Shri Kashivishwanath is held in Varanasi with great pomp and reverence, in which Baba is anointed with the waters of the Panchamahanadi.
