समुद्र पर पुल, अपने आप में यह शब्द रोमांचित और आश्चर्यचकित करता है। यात्रा करते समय जब ट्रेन किसी नदी के ऊपर से गुजरता है, तब मन खुद से सवाल पूछ बैठता है कि क्या वाकई इसे 'इंसान' ने ही बनाया है। खैर, अब हम नदी से आगे बढ़ चुके हैं,और आज हम समुद्र पर बने पुल की चर्चा करेंगे। जाहिर तौर पर ,इंसान ने जिन चीजों का निर्माण किया है, उसमें 'समुद्री पुल' सर्वाधिक नया कृतित्व में से एक है।

बांद्रा वर्ली सी लिंक ने मुंबई को एक नई पहचान दिलाई है। इस ब्रिज की सुंदरता देखते ही बनती है ।यह भारत का सबसे लंबा समुद्री ब्रिज है। यह ब्रिज भारत के 10 आधुनिक अजूबों में गिना जाता है, जिसका नाम "राजीव गांधी सागरसेतु"  है। यह ब्रिज माहिम वे पर बांद्रा को वर्ली से जोड़ता है, इस बीच की लंबाई 5.6 किलोमीटर है। इस ब्रिज की खास बात यह है कि यह 8 लेन ट्रैफिक को कंट्रोल करता है। इस ब्रिज के माध्यम से 45 मिनट का सफर मात्र 6 मिनट में तय किया जा सकता है। महाराष्ट्र राज्य सड़क विकास निगम के इस परियोजना को हिंदुस्तान कंस्ट्रक्शन कंपनी द्वारा पूरा किया गया है।इस पुल का उद्घाटन 2009 को संयुक्त प्रगतिशील गठबंधन के प्रमुख सोनिया द्वारा किया गया, लेकिन जनसाधारण के लिए इसे 1 जुलाई 2009 की मध्य रात्रि में खोला गया। इस पुल की योजना 1970 के दशक में बनाई गई थी।

यह सेतु मुंबई और भारत में अपने प्रकार का प्रथम पुल है। इस सेतू परियोजना की कुल लागत 16.50 अरब रुपए है।इस पुल की प्रकाश व्यवस्था करने के लिए ही केवल 9 करोड़ रुपए का व्यय किया गया है।इस सेतु के निर्माण में लगने वाले इस्पात के खास तारों को चीन से मंगाया गया था।जंग से बचाने के लिए इन तारों पर खास तरह के पेंट लगाने के साथ प्लास्टिक का आवरण भी चढ़ाये गये हैं।कहा जाता है कि इस ब्रिज के निर्माण में 6000 श्रमिक लगे थे।

पुल से गुजरने के लिए यात्रियों को 40-50 रुपए टोल देना होता है। यात्रा समय में लगभग 1 घंटे की बचत एवं इंधन की बचत को देखते हुए यह टैक्स नगण्य लगता है। प्रतिदिन लगभग सवा लाख वाहन इस पुल से गुजरते हैं।

Bandra Worli Sea Bridge

 Bridge over the sea, the word in itself thrills and surprises.  While traveling, when the train passes over a river, the mind asks itself the question whether it has been made by 'humans'.  Well, now we have moved beyond the river, and today we will discuss the bridge over the sea.  Apparently, the 'sea bridge' is one of the newest creations of human beings.

 Bandra Worli Sea Link has given Mumbai a new identity.  The beauty of this bridge is built on sight. It is the longest sea bridge in India.  This bridge is counted among the 10 modern wonders of India, named "Rajiv Gandhi Sagar Setu".  This bridge connects Bandra with Worli on Mahim Way, the length of which is 5.6 km.  The special feature of this bridge is that it controls 8 lane traffic.  A 45-minute journey through this bridge can be done in just 6 minutes.  This project of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has been completed by Hindustan Construction Company. The bridge was inaugurated by Sonia, the head of the United Progressive Alliance in 2009, but opened to the public at midnight on July 1, 2009.  This bridge was planned in the 1970s.

 This bridge is the first bridge of its kind in Mumbai and India.  The total cost of this bridge project is Rs 16.50 billion. Only Rs 9 crore has been spent for lighting this bridge. The special steel wires used to build this bridge were sourced from China.  In order to protect these wires with special paint, plastic cover has also been provided. It is said that 6000 workers were engaged in the construction of this bridge.

 Passengers have to pay 40-50 rupees toll to pass through the bridge.  Considering the savings of about 1 hour in travel time and fuel savings, this tax seems negligible.  Every day about 1.25 million vehicles pass through this bridge.
