आज बात करते हैं जंगल के राजा शेर की। शेर का वैज्ञानिक नाम पेंथरो लियो है। शेर की गिनती सबसे ताकतवर जानवर में होती है। शेर बाघों के बाद दूसरी सबसे बड़ी बिल्लियाँ हैं। ये शक्तिशाली, धैर्यशील और समृद्धि का प्रतीक माने जाते हैं। आज दुनियाभर में शेर की दो प्रजातियाँ बची हैं - अफ़्रीकी शेर और एशियाई शेर। दुनिया में 600 एशियाई शेर बचे हैं - उनमें से 300 से ज़्यादा गिर वन, भारत के संरक्षित क्षेत्र के बाहर रहते हैं, जिससे इस प्रजाति के विलुप्त होने का ख़तरा है और  उप-सहारा अफ़्रीका में 30,000 से भी कम अफ़्रीकी शेर जंगल में बचे हैं।

1. शेर बिल्लियों की दूसरी सबसे बड़ी प्रजाति है। सबसे बड़ा बाघ है।
2. आज जंगली शेर उप-सहारा अफ्रीका और एशिया में रहते हैं, एक लुप्तप्राय आबादी भारत के एक हिस्से में भी रहती है।
3. शेर सभी बड़ी बिल्लियों में सबसे आलसी माने जाते हैं। शेर दिन में 20 घंटे तक आराम करते हैं। जब वे अफ़्रीकी सूरज की रोशनी में नहीं सो रहे होते हैं, तो वे खुद को संवारने, सिर को रगड़ने और गुर्राने जैसे सामाजिक व्यवहार करते हैं
