दूधराज (Paradise Flycatcher)

चिड़ियों को देखकर उड़ान भरने की इच्छा सभी के मन में जागृत होती होगी। काश की मेरे पास भी पंख होता और मैं भी उड़कर मनचाहे जगह पर पहुंच जाती। एक समय का बड़ा ही मशहूर गाना था- पंख होती तो उड़ आती रे...। खैर छोड़िए, आते हैं आज के टॉपिक पर और बात करते हैं, मध्य प्रदेश के राजकीय पक्षी के बारे में। बहुत ही खूबसूरत दिखने वाले मध्य प्रदेश के राजकीय पक्षी का नाम है "दूधराज (Doodhraj)"। 

"दूधराज (Doodhraj)" नाम से ही प्रतीत हो रहा है कि यह दूध की तरह दिखता होगा। जी हां, बिल्कुल नाम के अनुरुप ही यह पक्षी दूध जैसे रंग का होता है। दूध जैसा रंग होने के कारण ही इसे दूधराज कहा जाता है। वैसे तो यह पक्षी तीन रंगों में पाया जाता है। इसमें से एक रंग दूधिया सफेद, दूसरा काला और तीसरा भूरा रंग का होता है। वैसे तो यह मध्यप्रदेश का राजकीय पक्षी है, परंतु यह मध्यप्रदेश के अलावा हिमाचल प्रदेश, कश्मीर, पंजाब, बिहार और राजस्थान में भी पाया जाता है। भारतीय प्रायद्वीप के साथ ही यह बांग्लादेश, पाकिस्तान, श्रीलंका और म्यांमार में भी पाया जाता है। इसे हिमालय की पहाड़ियों में 2000 मीटर की ऊंचाई तक देखा गया है।

दूधराज पक्षी को और भी कई नामों से जाना जाता है। इसे शाहबुलबुल, महारानी हुसैनी बुलबुल, सुल्ताना बुलबुल और टिटैनी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। दूधराज पक्षी को अंग्रेजी में पैराडाइज फ्लाईकैचर (Paradise Flycatcher) के नाम से जाना जाता है। 2015 से पहले इसका नाम एशियन पैराडाइज फ्लाईकैचर (Asian Paradise Flycatcher था। 2015 में इसकी दो अन्य उपजातियां ज्ञात होने के बाद इसका नाम इंडियन पैराडाइज फ्लाई कैचर Indian Paradise Flycatcher ) हो गया। 

दूधराज पक्षी मध्यम आकार के होते हैं। इसकी लंबाई 18 सेंटीमीटर से 21 सेंटीमीटर तक होती है। आकार में छोटा होने के कारण इसका वजन 12 ग्राम से 23 ग्राम तक का होता है। तस्वीरों में देख सकते हैं कि इस पक्षी में लंबी तथा छोटी पूँछ पाई जाती है, इससे नर और मादा में फर्क पता लगता है, क्योंकि नर पक्षी की पूंछ अधिक लंबी होती है तथा मादा पक्षी की पूंछ छोटी होती है। नरपक्षी की पूंछ की लंबाई उसके शरीर के चार गुना होती है। इसकी पूँछ में दो 30 सेंटीमीटर लंबे पंख निकले होते हैं। एक व्यस्क दूधराज पक्षी के पंखों का फैलाव 86 सेंटीमीटर से 92 सेंटीमीटर तक हो सकता है, जबकि मादा दूधराज पक्षी की ज्यादा से ज्यादा 20 सेंटीमीटर लंबी पूँछ होती है। मादा पक्षी की पूंछ लगभग इसके शरीर के बराबर ही होती है। 

दूधराज पक्षीयों में किशोरावस्था तक नर व मादा एक रंग के दिखते हैं। वयस्क होने पर नर का रंग दूध जैसा सफेद हो जाता है, जिसके कारण ही इसे दूधराज कहा जाता है। दूधराज का एक और रूप जिसमें नर केसरिया लाल और भूरे रंग में दिखाई देता है।

दूधराज पक्षी का मुख्य भोजन फल, कीट, पतंगे, तितलियां, मक्खियां आदि होते हैं। यह अपना घोंसला पेड़ों की ऊंचाई पर घास और तिनकों तथा छोटी टहनियों को मिलाकर बनाते हैं। दूधराज पक्षी मुख्य रूप से घने जंगलों, बागीचों, घनी झाड़ियों वाले जंगल, पतझड़ वनों तथा बांस के जंगलों में रहते हैं। सर्दी ऋतु में यह अपना पूरा समय एशिया के उष्णकटिबंधीय क्षेत्रों में बिताते हैं।

दूधराज पक्षी को मध्यप्रदेश का राजकीय पक्षी 1985 में घोषित किया गया था।

The name of the very beautiful looking state bird of Madhya Pradesh is "Doodhraj".

From the name "Doodhraj" it appears that it must have looked like milk. Yes, exactly as per the name this bird is of milk colour. Because of its color like milk, it is called Dudhraj. By the way, this bird is found in three colors. Out of this, one color is milky white, the other black and the third brown. Although it is the state bird of Madhya Pradesh, but apart from Madhya Pradesh it is also found in Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Punjab, Bihar and Rajasthan. Along with the Indian peninsula, it is also found in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. It has been observed up to an altitude of 2000 m in the Himalayan hills.

Dudhraj bird is known by many other names. It is also known as Shah Bulbul, Maharani Hussaini Bulbul, Sultana Bulbul and Titani. Dudhraj bird is known as Paradise Flycatcher in English. Before 2015, its name was Asian Paradise Flycatcher. In 2015, after its two other subspecies were known, its name became Indian Paradise Flycatcher.

Dudhraj birds are of medium size. Its length ranges from 18 cm to 21 cm. Being small in size, its weight ranges from 12 grams to 23 grams. It can be seen in the pictures that long and short tail is found in this bird, due to this the difference between male and female is known, because the tail of the male bird is longer and the tail of the female bird is shorter. The length of the tail of a male bird is four times that of its body. Its tail has two 30 cm long feathers. The wingspan of an adult dudhraj bird can be from 86 cm to 92 cm, while the female dudhraj bird has a tail of maximum 20 cm long. The tail of the female bird is almost as long as its body.

In Dudhraj birds, male and female look of the same color till adolescence. On becoming an adult, the color of the male becomes white like milk, due to which it is called Dudhraj. Another form of Dudhraj in which the male saffron appears in red and brown.

The main food of Dudhraj bird is fruits, insects, moths, butterflies, flies etc. It makes its nest at the height of trees by mixing grass and straws and small twigs. Dudhraj birds mainly live in dense forests, orchards, dense scrub forests, deciduous forests and bamboo forests. In winter, they spend all their time in the tropical regions of Asia.

The Dudhraj bird was declared the state bird of Madhya Pradesh in 1985.
