हर की पौड़ी या हरि की पौड़ी इसका भावार्थ है- "हरि यानी नारायण के चरण"

हर की पौड़ी भारत के उत्तराखंड राज्य की एक धार्मिक नगरी हरिद्वार का एक पवित्र और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण धार्मिक स्थल है। हर की पौड़ी या ब्रह्मा कुंड पवित्र नगरी हरिद्वार का मुख्य घाट है। यह माना गया है कि यही वह स्थान है, जहां से गंगा नदी पहाड़ों को छोड़ मैदानी क्षेत्रों की ओर अग्रसर होती हैं। इस स्थान पर नदी में पापों को धो डालने की शक्ति है, क्योंकि प्रचलित मान्यताओं के अनुसार, हर की पौड़ी में एक शिला में भगवान विष्णु के पद चिन्ह हैं, इसी वजह से इस घाट को हर की पौड़ी के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह घाट गंगा नदी की नहर के पश्चिमी तट पर है जहां से नदी उत्तर की ओर मुड़ जाती है।हरिद्वार में हर की पौड़ी के घाट पर कुंभ का मेला लगता है।

हर की पौड़ी, हरिद्वार की कथा

हिंदू धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, समुद्र मंथन के बाद जब धनवंतरी अमृत के लिए झगड़ रहे देव-दानव से बचाकर अमृत ले जा रहे थे तो पृथ्वी पर इसकी कुछ बूंदे गिर गई और वह स्थान धार्मिक महत्त्व वाले स्थान बन गए। अमृत की बूंदें हरिद्वार में भी गिरीं, जहां पर गिरीं, वह स्थान हर की पौड़ी था। यहां पर स्नान करना हरिद्वार आए हर श्रद्धालु की सबसे प्रबल इच्छा होती है, क्योंकि यह माना जाता है कि यहां पर स्नान से मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। 

हर की पौड़ी वह घाट है, जिसे विक्रमादित्य ने अपने भाई भतृहरि की याद में बनवाया था। इस घाट को 'ब्रह्मकुंड' के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, जो गंगा के पश्चिमी तट पर है।यह भी कहा जाता है कि यह वही स्थान है जहां पर वैदिक काल में श्री हरि (विष्णु) और शिव जी प्रकट हुए थे।

संध्या काल में गंगा घाट पर आरती की जाती है। यह दृश्य बेहद मनमोहक होता है, जब दीपों की रोशनी से जल में भी दीपों की प्रति ज्वाला जलती दिखती है।

इस मुख्य घाट के अतिरिक्त यहां पर नहर के किनारे अनेक छोटे-छोटे घाट हैं। थोड़े-थोड़े अंतराल पर ही संतरी व सफेद रंग के जीवन रक्षक टावर लगे हुए हैं, जो यह निगरानी रखते हैं कि कहीं कोई श्रद्धालु बह ना जाए।

Har ki Pauri is a holy and most important religious place in Haridwar, a religious city in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Har Ki Pauri or Brahma Kund is the main ghat of the holy city of Haridwar. It is believed that this is the place from where the river Ganges leaves the mountains and moves towards the plains. The river at this place has the power to wash away sins, because according to popular beliefs, there is a rock at Har Ki Pauri. It has the footprints of Lord Vishnu, that is why this ghat is known as Har Ki Pauri. This ghat is on the western bank of the canal of the river Ganges, from where the river turns north. Kumbh Mela is held at Har Ki Pauri Ghat in Haridwar.

Story of Har ki Pauri, Haridwar

According to Hindu religious beliefs, after the churning of the ocean, when Dhanvantari was carrying nectar from a demon who was fighting for nectar, a few drops of it fell on the earth and the place became a place of religious importance. The drops of nectar also fell in Haridwar, the place where it fell was Har Ki Pauri. Taking a bath here is the most ardent desire of every devotee who comes to Haridwar, because it is believed that bathing here leads to salvation.

Har Ki Pauri is the ghat built by Vikramaditya in the memory of his brother Bhatrihari. This ghat is also known as 'Brahmakund', which is on the western bank of the Ganges. It is also said that this is the place where Shri Hari (Vishnu) and Shiva appeared during the Vedic period.

Aarti is performed at Ganga Ghat in the evening. This scene is very enchanting, when the flame of the lamps is seen burning in the water with the light of the lamps.

Apart from this main ghat, there are many small ghats on the banks of the canal. There are life-saving towers of orange and white color at frequent intervals, which keep a watch that no devotee gets swept away.
