श्रीकृष्ण जन्माष्टमी जिसे जन्माष्टमी या गोकुलाष्टमी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।यह जन्माष्टमी विष्णु जी के 10 अवतारों में से 8 वें और 24 अवतारों में से 22 वें अवतार श्री कृष्ण के जन्म के आनंदोत्सव के रूप में मनाया जाता है। यह त्यौहार हिंदी मास के भाद्रपद के कृष्ण पक्ष (अंधेरा पख्वाडा) आठवें (अष्टमी) को मनाया जाता है।

श्री कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी भारत का एक महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है। कृष्ण देवकी और वासुदेव आनकदुंदुभी के पुत्र हैं और इनके जन्मदिन को हिंदुओं द्वारा जन्माष्टमी के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

जब भगवान कृष्ण का जन्म हुआ था,उस समय अराजकता अपने चरम पर थी।यह एक ऐसा समय था जब उत्पीड़न बड़े पैमाने पर था, सभी अपनी स्वतंत्रता से वंचित थे, बुराई सब ओर थी। या यूं कहें कि इस बुराई का नाश करने के लिए भगवान कृष्ण ने अवतार लिया था।

कृष्ण जी भगवान विष्णु जी के अवतार हैं जो तीन लोक के 3 गुणों सतगुण, रजगुण तथा तमोगुण में सतगुण के लिए जाने जाते हैं। श्री कृष्ण के माता पिता वासुदेव और देवकी जी के विवाह के समय जब मामा कंस अपनी बहन देवकी को ससुराल पहुंचाने जा रहा था तभी आकाशवाणी हुई थी कि देवकी का आठवां पुत्र कंस को मारेगा। इस आकाशवाणी के बाद कंस ने देवकी और वासुदेव को अपने कारागार में डाल दिया और उनके सभी सातों पुत्रों का जन्म होते ही वध कर दिया। लेकिन देवकी और वासुदेव को जेल में रखने के बावजूद कंस उनके आठवें पुत्र को नहीं मार पाया। मथुरा की जेल में जन्म के तुरंत बाद श्री कृष्ण के पिता वासुदेव कृष्ण को यमुना पार अपने मित्र नंद और उनकी पत्नी यशोदा के पास ले जाते हैं। वृंदावन में श्री कृष्ण का लालन पोषण नंदलाल और यशोदा मां मिलकर बहुत प्रेम से करते है। श्री कृष्ण की अद्भुत और अलौकिक छवि से पूरा वृंदावन मोहित रहता है। गोवर्धन पर्वत को अपनी एक उंगली पर उठाकर श्री कृष्ण ने पूरे वृंदावन वासियों की रक्षा की थी और इंद्र का घमंड तोड़ा था।यह बात मथुरा के राजा कंस के पास पहुंचती है, तो वह समझ जाता है कि यही बालक मेरा भी वध करेगा। इसलिए उसने एक महायज्ञ के बहाने अपना एक मंत्री अक्रूर सिंह जी को भेजकर श्रीकृष्ण को यज्ञ में आमंत्रण देता है। श्री कृष्ण जी मथुरा आते हैं। दरवाजे पर एक ऐसा धनुष रखा था जिसे कोई साधारण इंसान उठा नहीं पाता। भगवान श्री कृष्णा उस धनुष को ऐसे तोड़ा जैसे बच्चा अपने खिलौने से खेलता है। कंस समझ गया कि ये कोई साधारण बालक नहीं। इसलिए उन्हें मारने के लिए उसने दैवीय राक्षस भेजें। अंत में कंस खुद लड़ने आया और उसका श्री कृष्ण ने वध कर दिया। बाल्यावस्था से ही श्रीकृष्ण की कई सारी लीलाएं और कथाएं हैं, जिनकी चर्चा हम एक ब्लाग में नहीं कर सकते।

मध्य रात्रि के जन्म के बाद शिशु कृष्ण की मूर्तियों को धोया और पहनाया जाता है। फिर एक पालने में रखा जाता है उसके बाद भक्त भोजन वह मिठाई बांट कर अपना उपवास तोड़ते हैं। इसदिन भक्त व्रत, गायन, रात्रि जागरण और विशेष भोजन तैयार करते हैं। कुछ लोग कृष्ण या विष्णु मंदिर जाकर भजन- कीर्तन करते हैं। प्रमुख 'कृष्ण मंदिर' में भागवत गीता भागवत पुराण का आयोजन होता है। नृत्य नाटक कार्यक्रम अथवा कृष्ण लीला या रासलीला आयोजित होती है। महाराष्ट्र में जन्माष्टमी के अगले दिन दही- हांडी का आयोजन होता है। युवा समूह जिन्हें गोविंदा भी कहा जाता है इस दहीहंडी फोड़कर इनाम पाते हैं।

गुजरात के द्वारिका में लोग सामूहिक गायन और नृत्य के साथ कृष्ण जुलूस निकालते हैं।

यह त्यौहार भारत ही नहीं बल्कि विश्व के अन्य देशों में भी बड़े धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है।

Shri Krishna Janmashtami also known as Janmashtami or Gokulashtami. This Janmashtami is celebrated as the 8th out of 10 incarnations of Vishnu and the 22nd out of 24 incarnations as the celebration of the birth of Shri Krishna. This festival is celebrated on the eighth (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the Hindi month of Bhadrapada.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami is an important festival of India. Krishna is the son of Devaki and Vasudeva Anakadundubhi and his birthday is celebrated as Janmashtami by Hindus.

Anarchy was at its peak when Lord Krishna was born. It was a time when oppression was rampant, everyone was deprived of their freedom, evil was everywhere. Or rather, to destroy this evil, Lord Krishna had incarnated.

Krishna ji is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is known to have Satgun in the 3 gunas of the three worlds, Satgun, Rajgun and Tamogun. At the time of the marriage of Shri Krishna's parents Vasudev and Devaki ji, when Mama Kansa was going to take her sister Devaki to her in-laws' house, there was an Akashvani that Devaki's eighth son would kill Kansa. After this Akashvani, Kansa put Devaki and Vasudeva in his prison and killed all their seven sons as soon as they were born. But despite keeping Devaki and Vasudeva in jail, Kansa could not kill his eighth son. Soon after his birth in the Mathura prison, Vasudeva, the father of Shri Krishna, takes Krishna across the Yamuna to his friend Nanda and his wife Yashoda. In Vrindavan, Shri Krishna is brought up by Nandlal and Yashoda Maa together with great love. The whole Vrindavan remains fascinated by the wonderful and supernatural image of Shri Krishna. By lifting the Govardhan mountain on his one finger, Shri Krishna had protected the entire Vrindavan residents and broke Indra's pride. When this matter reaches the king of Mathura, Kansa, he understands that this child will kill me too. Therefore, on the pretext of a Mahayagya, he sends one of his ministers, Akrur Singh, and invites Shri Krishna to the Yagya. Shri Krishna ji comes to Mathura. There was such a bow on the door that no ordinary person could lift it. Lord Shri Krishna broke that bow like a child playing with his toy. Kansa understood that this was no ordinary child. So he sent divine demons to kill them. In the end, Kansa himself came to fight and was killed by Shri Krishna. There are many pastimes and stories of Shri Krishna since childhood, which we cannot discuss in one blog.

The idols of baby Krishna are washed and clothed after the midnight birth. Then it is kept in a cradle, after that the devotees break their fast by distributing food and sweets. On this day devotees observe fast, singing, night awakening and preparing special food. Some people go to Krishna or Vishnu temple and do bhajan-kirtan. Bhagwat Gita Bhagwat Purana is organized in the main 'Krishna Mandir'. A dance drama program or Krishna Leela or Rasleela is organized. In Maharashtra, Dahi-Handi is organized on the next day of Janmashtami. Youth groups also known as Govinda get reward by breaking this Dahi Handi.

This festival is celebrated with great pomp not only in India but also in other countries of the world.
