बिहार के भभुआ जिला केंद्र से 14 किलोमीटर दक्षिण पश्चिम में स्थित है कैमूर की पहाड़ी। यह पहाड़ी रामगढ़ गांव के पंवरा पहाड़ी पर स्थित है, जिसकी ऊंचाई लगभग 600 फीट है। इस पहाड़ी पर माता मुंडेश्वरी एवं महामंडलेश्वर महादेव का एक प्राचीन मंदिर है। इस मंदिर को भारत के प्राचीन मंदिरों में से एक माना जाता है पर कितना प्राचीन है इसका कोई स्पष्ट प्रमाण नहीं है। पुरातत्वविदों के अनुसार यहां से प्राप्त शिलालेख 389 ई० के बीच का है, जो इसके प्राचीनतम समय का एहसास कराता है। सन्  1812 ईस्वी से लेकर 1904 ईस्वी के बीच ब्रिटिश यात्री आरएन मार्टिन, फ्रांसिस बुकानन और ब्लॉक ने इस मंदिर का भ्रमण किया था। मुंडेश्वरी भवानी के मंदिर की नक्काशी और मूर्तियां उत्तर गुप्तकालीन हैं, और यह मंदिर अष्टकोणीय आकार में पुराने पत्थरों से बना हुआ है।

सूर्य की स्थिति के साथ-साथ शिवलिंग के पत्थर का रंग भी बदलता रहता है

इस मंदिर के पूर्वी खंड में देवी मुंडेश्वरी की पत्थर से भव्य व प्राचीन मूर्ति मुख्य आकर्षण का केंद्र है। मां वाराही रूप में विराजमान है जिनका वाहन महिष है। इस मंदिर के मध्य भाग में पंचमुखी शिवलिंग स्थापित है। जिस पत्थर से यह शिवलिंग निर्मित किया गया है उसमें सूर्य की स्थिति के साथ-साथ पत्थर का रंग भी बदलता रहता है।मुख्य मंदिर के पश्चिम में पुर्वाभिमुख विशाल नंदी की मूर्ति है, जो आज भी अक्षुण्ण है। 

दुनिया का सबसे प्राचीन मंदिर, जहां बलि के बाद भी जिंदा रहते हैं बकरे

यहां पशु बलि में बकरा तो चढ़ाया जाता है परंतु उसका वध नहीं किया जाता, बलि की यह सात्विक परंपरा पूरे भारतवर्ष में अन्यत्र कहीं नहीं है। यहां माता के चरण में बलि भी चढ़ जाती है, लेकिन खून का एक कतरा बाहर नहीं निकलता है। पूजा होने के बाद बलि देने के लिए बकरे को मंदिर के भीतर माता के समक्ष लाया जाता है। बकरे को माता के सामने लाने के बाद मंदिर के पुजारी ने बकरे के चारों पैरो को मज़बूती से पकड़ लेता है और माता के चरणों में स्पर्श करने के बाद मंत्र का उच्चारण करता है। बकरे को माता के चरण के सामने रख देता है और फिर बकरे पर पूजा किया हुआ चावल छिड़कता है। जैसे ही वो चावल बकरे पर पड़ता है बकरा अचेत हो जाता है। कुछ देर तक बकरा अचेत रहता है। जब पुजारी कुछ मंत्र पढ़ते हैं और माता के चरण में पड़े फूल को फिर से बकरे पर फेंकते हैं, तो बकरा ऐसा जगता है मानो वो नींद से जागा हो। इस प्रकार बकरे की बलि की प्रक्रिया पूरी हो जाती है। यही इस बलि की अनोखी परम्परा है, जो सदियों से चली आ रही है। इस बलि में बकरा चढ़ाया जाता है, लेकिन उसकी जान नहीं ली जाती है। इस मंदिर की सबसे बड़ी विशेषता पशु बलि की सात्विक परम्परा है, जिसे देख भक्त माता का जोर जोर से जयकारा लगाने लगते हैं। श्रद्धालु इसे माता का चमत्कार मानते हैं। 

इस मंदिर को सबसे प्राचीन मंदिरों में से एक माना जाता है। यह मंदिर अपनी महिमा और गरिमा के लिए विख्यात है। राम नवमी और शिवरात्रि का त्योहार मुंडेश्वरी मंदिर में विशेष आकर्षण रखते हैं और प्रत्येक वर्ष बड़ी संख्या में तीर्थयात्रियों द्वारा मंदिर का दौरा किया जाता है। यह मंदिर भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण के अधीन है।

माँ मुंडेश्वरी मंदिर (भगवानपुर) की कहानी

कहते हैं कि चंड मुंड के नाश के लिए जब देवी उद्यत हुईं, तो, चंड के विनाश के बाद मुंड युद्ध करते हुए इसी पहाड़ी पर छिप गया था, और यहीं पर माता ने उस का वध किया था। अतएव यह मुंडेश्वरी माता के नाम से स्थानीय लोगों में जानी जाती हैं।

स्थिती

वर्तमान में पहाड़ी पर स्थित यह मंदिर  भग्नावशेष के रूप में है। ऐसा लगता है कि किसी ने इस मंदिर को तोड़ा है। मंदिर के अंग ऐसे टूटे हैं, मानो किसी तेज हथियार से उन पर चोट की गई हो।पंचमुखी महादेव का मंदिर ध्वस्त स्थिति में है, इसी के एक भाग में माता की प्रतिमा को दक्षिण मुखी स्वरूप में खड़ा कर पूजा अर्चना की जाती है।माता की साढ़े तीन फीट की काले पत्थर की प्रतिमा है, जो भैंस पर सवार हैं।

पहाड़ी पर बिखरे हुए पत्थर एवं स्तंभ पर श्री यंत्र सरीखे कई सिद्ध यंत्र एवं मंत्र उत्तकीर्ण है। प्रत्येक कोने पर शिवलिंग है, ऐसा लगता है कि पहाड़ी के पूर्वी उत्तरी क्षेत्र में माता मुंडेश्वरी का मंदिर स्थापित रहा होगा और उसके चारों तरफ विभिन्न देवी-देवताओं की मूर्तियां स्थापित थीं। पहाड़ी पर एक गुफा भी मिली है, जिसे सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से बंद कर दिया गया है। इस मंदिर के रास्ते में सिक्के भी मिले हैं, और तमिल, सिंहली भाषा में पहाड़ी के पत्थर पर कुछ अक्षर भी खुदे हुए हैं। कहते हैं कि यहां पर श्रीलंका से भी भक्त आया करते थे।बहरहाल, मंदिर के गर्भ में अभी कई रहस्य छिपे हुए हैं। बहुत कुछ पता नहीं है। बस माता की अर्चना होती है। ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि मंदिर अपने आप में कई अनुभवी आध्यात्मिक स्वरूपों को छुपाए हुए हैं, बस आवरण नहीं उठ रहा है।

Maa Mundeshwari Temple (Bhagwanpur)

Kaimur Hills is situated 14 km southwest of Bhabua district center of Bihar. This hill is situated on the Panwara hill of Ramgarh village, whose height is about 600 feet. There is an ancient temple of Mata Mundeshwari and Mahamandaleshwar Mahadev on this hill. This temple is considered to be one of the ancient temples of India, but there is no clear evidence of how old it is. According to archaeologists, the inscription obtained from here is between 389 AD, which gives a sense of its oldest time. From 1812 AD to 1904 AD, British travelers RN Martin, Francis Buchanan and Block visited this temple. The carvings and sculptures of the temple of Mundeshwari Bhavani date back to the post-Gupta period, and the temple is made of old stones in an octagonal shape.

Along with the position of the sun, the color of the Shivalinga stone also changes.

In the eastern section of this temple, the grand and ancient stone idol of Goddess Mundeshwari is the center of attraction. Mother is seated in the form of Varahi whose vehicle is Mahisha. Panchmukhi Shivling is established in the central part of this temple. The color of the stone varies with the position of the sun in the stone from which this Shivling has been built. To the west of the main temple is a giant Nandi statue facing east, which is still intact.

World's oldest temple, where goats remain alive even after sacrifice

Here goat is offered in animal sacrifice but it is not slaughtered, this sattvik tradition of sacrifice is not found anywhere else in the whole of India. Here sacrifices are also made at the feet of the mother, but not a single drop of blood comes out. After the worship is done, the goat is brought inside the temple to the mother to be sacrificed. After bringing the goat in front of the mother, the priest of the temple firmly grasps the four legs of the goat and chants the mantra after touching the feet of the mother. Places the goat in front of the feet of the mother and then sprinkles the worshiped rice on the goat. As soon as that rice falls on the goat, the goat becomes unconscious. For some time the goat remains unconscious. When the priest recites some mantras and again throws the flower lying at the feet of the mother on the goat, the goat wakes up as if it has woken up from its sleep. Thus the process of goat sacrifice is completed. This is the unique tradition of this sacrifice, which is going on for centuries. A goat is offered in this sacrifice, but its life is not taken. The biggest feature of this temple is the sattvik tradition of animal sacrifice, seeing which the devotees start shouting loudly for the mother. Devotees consider it a miracle of the mother.

This temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples. This temple is famous for its glory and dignity. The festivals of Ram Navami and Shivratri hold special attractions in the Mundeshwari temple and the temple is visited by a large number of pilgrims every year. This temple is under the Archaeological Survey of India.

Story of Maa Mundeshwari Temple (Bhagwanpur)

It is said that when the goddess got ready to destroy Chand Munda, then, after the destruction of Chand, Munda hid on this hill while fighting, and it was here that the mother killed him. Hence she is known among the local people by the name of Mundeshwari Mata.

Presently the hill conditions are in the form of temple and ruins, it seems that someone has broken this temple. The parts of the temple are broken as if they have been hit by a sharp weapon. The temple of Panchmukhi Mahadev is in a ruined condition, in a part of it, the idol of the mother is erected in the south-facing form. There is a three feet black stone statue, who is riding a buffalo.

On the scattered stones and pillars on the hill, there are many proven instruments and mantras like Shri Yantra. There is a Shivling on each corner, it seems that the temple of Mata Mundeshwari must have been established in the eastern northern region of the hill and the idols of different gods and goddesses were installed around it. A cave has also been found on the hill, which has been closed for security. Coins have also been found on the way to this temple, and some letters are also engraved on the stone of the hill in Tamil, Sinhala language. It is said that devotees from Sri Lanka used to come here too. However, many secrets are still hidden in the womb of the temple. Don't know much. Only the mother is worshipped. It seems that the temple itself is hiding many experienced spiritual forms, just the cover is not lifting.
