जैन धर्म का सबसे पवित्र तीर्थ स्थान पालीताना

पालीताना मंदिर जैन धर्म का विशाल और बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है। जैन धर्म के अनुसार, प्राचीन काल से ही पालिताना जैन साधु और मुनियों के मोक्ष एवं निर्वाण का प्रमुख स्थल रहा है। पालीताना भारत के गुजरात राज्य के भावनगर जिले में स्थित नगर है।  जैन धर्म का सबसे बड़ा तीर्थ स्थान, भावनगर शहर से 50 किलोमीटर दक्षिण-पश्चिम दिशा में स्थित है। कानूनी रूप से यह दुनिया का एकमात्र शाकाहारी शहर है। शुरू से ही जैन समाज के लोग जीव दया को मानते हैं।

पालीताना शत्रुंजय नदी के तट पर शत्रुंजय पर्वत की तलहटी में स्थित जैन धर्म का प्रमुख तीर्थ है।

यह मंदिर मुख्य रूप से 24 तीर्थंकर भगवानों के लिए समर्पित है। कुमारपाल, मिलशाह, समप्रति मंदिर यहां के मुख्य मंदिर हैं। पहाड़ी की चोटी पर मुख्य मंदिर पहले तीर्थंकर भगवान श्री आदिनाथ जी को समर्पित है, यह जैन मंदिर

पालीताना दुनिया का एकमात्र पर्वत है, जिसमें 900 से अधिक मंदिर हैं।पालीताना मंदिर और पूरे पहाड़ को जैन समुदाय द्वारा सबसे पवित्र तीर्थ स्थान माना जाता है, और यह दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा मंदिर परिसर है। शत्रुंजय पहाड़ियों पर स्थित 3000 से अधिक मंदिर हैं, जिन्हें उत्कृष्ट रूप से संगमरमर में उकेरा गया है। मंदिरों का निर्माण जैनियों की पीढ़ियों द्वारा 11वीं शताब्दी के बाद से 900 वर्षों की अवधि में किया गया था। इन मंदिरों के संगमरमर के शिखर सूर्य की रोशनी में चमकते हुए एक अद्भुत छठा प्रकट करते हैं, तथा माणिक्य मोती से लगते हैं। पालीताना शत्रुंजय तीर्थ का जैन धर्म में बहुत महत्व है। पांच प्रमुख तीर्थों में से एक शत्रुंजय तीर्थ की यात्रा करना प्रत्येक जैन अपना कर्तव्य मानता है। मंदिर के ऊपर शिखर पर सूर्यास्त के बाद केवल देव साम्राज्य ही रहता है सूर्यास्त के उपरांत किसी भी इंसान को ऊपर रहने की अनुमति नहीं है।  जैन मान्यताओं में पहाड़ों पर स्थित इन मंदिरों का निर्माण भगवान के निवास स्थान के रूप में किया गया है जहां भगवान रात्रि में विश्राम करते हैं इसलिए इस स्थान पर रात्रि में पुजारी सहित किसी भी व्यक्ति को रहने की अनुमति नहीं है।   पालीताना के मंदिरों का सौंदर्य एवं नक्काशी का काम बहुत ही उत्तम कोटि का है।पहाड़ी की तलहटी से चोटी तक चढ़ाई की सुविधा के लिए लगभग 3800 पत्थर की सीढ़ियां हैं।

पालीताना का प्रमुख व सबसे खूबसूरत मंदिर जैन धर्म के प्रथम तीर्थंकर भगवान ऋषभदेव जिन्हें आदिनाथ भी कहा जाता है, का है। आदिश्वर देव के इस मंदिर में भगवान की आंगी दर्शनीय है। दैनिक पूजा के दौरान भगवान का श्रृंगार देखने योग्य होता है।पालीताना में बहुमूल्य प्रतिमाओं आदि का भी अच्छा संग्रह है। एक महान जैन संरक्षक कुमारपाल सोलंकी ने संभवतः सबसे पहले मंदिर का निर्माण किया था। मंदिर में गहनों का शानदार संग्रह है और इन्हें विशेष अनुमति से देखा जा सकता है। मंदिर 11 वीं से 20 वीं सदी के हैं । 1865 से 1910 तक इस पर राजा धनपत का शासन था।अलग-अलग कालों में शासकों द्वारा पहाड़ पर स्थित इन मंदिरों का अब तक लगभग 16 बार पुनर्निर्माण किया जा चुका है।पालीताणा के इन जैन मंदिरों को 'टक्स' भी कहा जाता है।

आस्था

इसकी पवित्रता के कारण प्रत्येक जैन भक्त अपने जीवन काल में कम से कम एक बार पहाड़ी की चोटी पर चढ़ने की इच्छा रखता है। ना केवल पहाड़ी पर मंदिर पवित्र है बल्कि जैन शास्त्रों के अनुसार ऊपर से नीचे तक पूरी पहाड़ी पवित्र है। यात्रा कठिन है। पत्थर की सीढ़ियां पहाड़ के मुख पर उकेरी गई हैं, जिसमें लगभग डेढ़ घंटे का समय लगता है। जो लोग सक्षम नहीं जाने में उनके लिए स्लिंग- कुर्सियां भी किराए पर उपलब्ध हैं। जैन धर्म की कठोरता को ध्यान में रखते हुए पर्वतारोहियों के लिए नियम सख्त हैं। भोजन ना तो खाना चाहिए और ना ही रस्ते में ले जाना चाहिए।

शाकाहार

2014 में पालीताना कानूनी रूप से शाकाहारी होने वाला दुनिया का पहला शहर बन गया। इसने मांस, मछली और अंडे की खरीद और बिक्री और इससे संबंधित काम को गैरकानूनी या अवैध बना दिया है।
