आशावान राजा की कहानी

एक बार बोधिसत्व का जन्म काशी राज्य में हुआ। उनका नाम सीलव रखा गया। पिता के स्वर्ग सिधारने के बाद सीलव महासीलव के नाम से काशी के सिंहासन पर आसीन हुए। महासीलव बहुत धार्मिक राजा थे। उनके राज्य में प्रजा अत्यंत सुखी थी। कोई भी भूखा नहीं रहता था। लोग पाप से घृणा करते थे और सदाचरण से रहते थे।

एक बार एक मंत्री को उनके अशिष्ट आचरण से घिरा होने के कारण राजा ने राज्य से निकाल दिया। वह मंत्री काशी से चलकर कौशल राज्य में पहुंच गया और थोड़े दिनों में ही वहां के राजा का विश्वास पात्र बन गया।

एक दिन नए मंत्री ने कौशलराज से कहा - महाराज! काशी का राज्य  एक मधु पूर्ण छत्ते के समान है। इस समय बिना विशेष प्रयास के ही उस पर अधिकार किया जा सकता है। राजा ने पहले तो इस झमेले में ना पढ़ने का निश्चय किया, परंतु मंत्री ने जब यह कहा कि राज्य पर अधिकार बिना युद्ध के ही हो जाएगा, तब वह एक बड़े राज्य को पाने के लोभ से खुद को ना रोक सके। 

धीरे-धीरे कौशल के लोगों ने काशी की सीमा में प्रवेश कर लूटपाट आरंभ कर दी। महासीलव ने उन्हें बुलाकर पूछा - तुम किस लिए यहां अनाचार करते हो? उन्होंने उत्तर दिया - धन पाने के लिए। राजा ने उन्हें धन देकर संतुष्ट कर दिया। 

कौशलराज को विश्वास हो गया कि काशी का राजा युद्ध नहीं करना चाहता। उसने सेना लेकर काशी पर आक्रमण कर दिया। काशीराज महासीलव के योद्धाओं ने युद्ध करने की अनुमति मांगी, परंतु राजा ने मना कर दिया। कौशल राज ने बिना विरोध ही राज भवन में प्रवेश किया। राज्य के लिए मैं मनुष्य का रक्त बहाना उचित नहीं समझता- ऐसा कह कर महासीलव ने सिंहासन खाली कर दिया।

नीच मंत्री ने कोशलराज के कान में कहा - महाराज आप भी कहीं ऐसी उदारता दिखाने की भूल ना कर बैठे। कौशल राज के आदेश से महासीलव तथा उनके मंत्री और योद्धा को जीवित ही शमशान में गाड़ दिए गए। केवल उनका सिर भर बाहर निकला छोड़ दिया गया।

रात्री में श्मशान में सियारों के दल आए। उनके पास आने पर सब योद्धा चिल्ला उठे। जिससे सियार डरकर भाग गए। थोड़ी देर में सियार फिर लौटे। महासीलव ने एक तगड़े सियार को अपनी मुट्ठी के नीचे दबा दिया। सियार ने छूटने के लिए भरपूर जोर लगाया, पर ना छूट सका। इस खींचतान में गड्ढे की मिट्टी ढीली पड़ गई और महाराज महासीलव प्रयत्न करके बाहर निकल गए। 

उन्होंने सियार को छोड़ दिया, जो अपने साथियों सहित वन में भाग गया। इसके पश्चात उन्होंने अपने सब साथियों को भी गड्ढों से बाहर निकाल दिया। 

इसी समय में कुछ लोग शमशान में एक शव छोड़ कर गए, जिसके बंटवारे के लिए दो यक्षों में झगड़ा प्रारंभ हो गया। बोधिसत्व ने यक्षों से कहा यदि तुम हमारा कुछ काम करो, तो मैं इस शव को काटकर ठीक दो भाग कर दूंगा। यक्ष राजी हो गए। राजा ने खड़क से काटकर शव को ठीक दो भाग कर दिए, जिससे यक्षों को संतुष्टि हुई। 

मांस खाने पर उन्होंने राजा से पूछा - हमें आप क्या करने का आदेश देते हैं? 

राजा महासीलव ने यक्षों से कहा - "मुझे अत्यंत गुप्त रूप से राजभवन में पहुंचा दो और इन सब योद्धाओं को इनके घर वालों के पास।" उन्होंने राजा के आदेश का पालन तत्काल कर दिया। 

कौशल का राजा आराम से सो रहा था। महासीलव में तलवार की नोक उनके पेट में चुभाकर उसको जगाया। महासीलव को सामने देखकर वह एकदम घबरा गया। उसने सोचा इस धर्मात्मा राजा में अवश्य ही कुछ अलौकिक शक्तियां हैं। तभी तो यह सेना और पहरेदारों से घिरे हुए राजमहल में अकेला निर्विघ्नं चला आया। 

उसने बोधिसत्व के चरणों पर गिरकर क्षमा मांगी। दूसरे दिन सवेरे सब लोगों को बुलाकर उसने उस चुगलखोर मंत्री को दंड दिया और अपनी सेना सहित काशी छोड़कर कौशल की ओर प्रस्थान कर गया।

Once a Bodhisattva was born in the kingdom of Kashi. He was named Seelav. After the death of his father, Silava ascended the throne of Kashi by the name of Mahasilava. Mahasilava was a very religious king. The people in his kingdom were very happy. No one was hungry. People hated sin and lived by virtue.

Once a minister was thrown out of the kingdom by the king for being surrounded by his rude conduct. The minister left Kashi and reached the kingdom of Kaushal and within a few days became the trustworthy of the king there.

One day the new minister said to Kaushalraj - Maharaj! The kingdom of Kashi is like a honeycomb full of honey. At this time it can be captured without special effort. The king at first decided not to get into this mess, but when the minister said that the state would be conquered without war, then he could not stop himself from the greed of getting a big kingdom.

Gradually, the people of Kaushal entered the border of Kashi and started looting. Mahasilav called them and asked - for what do you commit incest here? He replied - to get money. The king satisfied them by giving them money.

Kaushalraj was convinced that the king of Kashi did not want to fight. He took an army and attacked Kashi. The warriors of Kashiraj Mahasilava asked permission to fight, but the king refused. Kaushal Raj entered the Raj Bhavan without protest. I do not consider it proper to shed human blood for the sake of the kingdom - saying this Mahasilava vacated the throne.

The lowly minister said in the ear of Koshalraj - Maharaj, you too should not make the mistake of showing such generosity. By order of Kaushal Raj, Mahasilav and his ministers and warriors were buried alive in the crematorium. Only his head was left sticking out.

In the night, groups of jackals came to the crematorium. All the warriors cried when they came near him. Due to which the jackal ran away in fear. After a while the jackals returned again. Mahasilava stifled a strong jackal under his fist. The jackal tried hard to leave, but could not leave. In this tussle, the soil of the pit became loose and Maharaj Mahasilav tried to get out.

He released the jackal, which along with his companions fled into the forest. After this he also took all his companions out of the pits.

At the same time some people left a dead body in the crematorium, for the division of which a fight started between the two Yakshas. The Bodhisattva said to the Yakshas, ​​if you do some work for us, then I will cut this dead body into exactly two parts. Yaksha agreed. The king cut the dead body in exactly two parts by cutting it with a khadak, due to which the Yakshas were satisfied.

After eating meat they asked the king - what do you order us to do?

King Mahasilava said to the Yakshas - "Take me to the royal palace very secretly and take all these warriors to their families." He immediately obeyed the order of the king.

The king of skill was sleeping soundly. In Mahasilav, he woke him up by pricking the tip of the sword in his stomach. Seeing Mahasilav in front, he was terrified. He thought that this godly king must have some supernatural powers. That's why he walked alone in the palace surrounded by the army and the guards without any problems.

He apologized by falling at the feet of the Bodhisattva. The next morning, after calling all the people, he punished that sly minister and left Kashi with his army and left for Kaushal.
