साम ~ जातक कथा

पिता दुकूलक और माता पारिका से एक पुत्र का जन्म हुआ, जिसका नाम साम था। एक दिन पिता दुकूलक और माता पारिका किसी वन में घूम रहे थे, तो तेज वर्षा आरंभ हो गई। उन्होंने एक पेड़ के नीचे शरण ली और बारिश से अपने बचाव करने लगे। किंतु उनके शरीर और वस्त्र से रिसते पानी से एक भयंकर विषधर सांप भीगने लगा, जो उनके पैरों के नीचे चीटियों के एक बिल में निवास कर रहा था। वृद्ध सांप ने तब एक भयंकर उच्छ्वास छोड़ा। उसके उच्छ्वास में विद्यमान विष कण और पानी जब उन दोनों की आंखों में पड़ा, तो दोनों की दृष्टि चली गई। 

देर शाम तक जब माता-पिता वापस घर नहीं लौटे तब साम उनको ढूंढता हुआ उसी वन में जा पहुंचा। थोड़ी देर ढूंढने के बाद उसने उन्हें वन में भटकता पाया। फिर वह उन्हें घर ले आया और उनकी सेवा सुश्रुषा करने लगा। 

एक बार पिलियक्ख  नामक वाराणसी का एक राजा शिकार खेलता हुआ उसी वन में आ पहुंचा। जहां साम और उसके माता-पिता रहते थे। उस समय साम पास के जलाशय में अपने वृद्ध माता-पिता के लिए एक घर में जल भर रहा था, जिसकी आवाज सुन राजा ने सोचा शायद कोई जानवर पानी पी रहा है। आवाज की दिशा में राजा ने जब बाण चलाया तो साम के ह्रदय को भेद गया। राजा जब घटनास्थल पर पहुंचा तो साम को घायल पाया। 

उसी समय राजा के सामने एक औरत प्रकट हुई, जो जंगल में साम की मुंह बोली माता थी। उसने राजा को डराते हुए साम के माता- पिता को साम की घायल होने की सूचना देने का आदेश दिया। 

राजा ने जब साम के माता-पिता को पुत्र की घायल होने का समाचार दिया, तो उन्होंने बिना विचलित हुए राजा से उन्हें साम के शरीर के पास ले जाने को कहा। जब माता-पिता साम के अचेत शरीर के पास पहुंचे तो साम की मुंह बोली माँ ने चिकित्सा द्वारा साम को आरोग्य कर दिया और उसने चिकित्सा करके साम के माता-पिता की आंखों में वापस से रोशनी डाल दी।

Saam ~ Jatak Katha

A son was born to his father Dukulak and mother Parika, whose name was Sama. One day when father Dukulak and mother Parika were walking in a forest, it started raining heavily. He took shelter under a tree and started defending himself from the rain. But the water leaking from his body and clothes started drenching a fierce poisonous snake, which was residing in a burrow of ants under his feet. The old snake then let out a fierce sigh. When the poison particles and water present in his sigh fell in their eyes, both of them lost their sight.

When the parents did not return home till late evening, Sam reached the same forest looking for them. After searching for a while, he found them wandering in the forest. Then he brought them home and started serving them.

Once a king of Varanasi named Piliyakh came to the same forest while playing hunting. where Sama and his parents lived. At that time Sam was filling water in a nearby reservoir for a house for his aged parents, hearing the sound of which the king thought that maybe some animal was drinking water. When the king shot an arrow in the direction of the voice, it pierced Sam's heart. When the king reached the spot, he found Sam injured.

At the same time a woman appeared in front of the king, who was the mother of Sama in the forest. Scaring the king, he ordered Sama's parents to inform about Sama's injuries.

When the king informed Sama's parents about the son's injury, they asked the king to take them to Sama's body without being disturbed. When the parents reached near the unconscious body of Sama, Sama's mother said that Sama was cured by medicine and she put the light back in the eyes of Sama's parents.
