आज हम आपको ऐसे डाकघर के बारे में बताएंगे जिसके बारे में कम ही लोगों को पता होगा। हम जिस डाकघर की बात कर रहे हैं वह "फ्लोटिंग पोस्ट ऑफिस" है जो काश्मीर के सर्वाधिक प्रसिद्ध और सुन्दर डल झील पर उपस्थित है।

दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी डाक सेवा भारत में है। लगभग 500 साल पुरानी 'भारतीय डाक प्रणाली' आज दुनिया की सबसे विश्वसनीय और बेहतर डाक प्रणाली में अव्वल स्थान पर है।

 यूं तो यह अंग्रेजो के वक्त का डाकघर है। पहले इस पोस्ट ऑफिस का नाम "नेहरू पार्क पोस्ट ऑफिस" था, लेकिन अगस्त 2011 में तत्कालीन चीफ पोस्ट मास्टर जान सैम्युअल ने इसका नाम "फ्लोटिंग पोस्ट ऑफिस" रखवाया। अगस्त, 2011 में राज्य के तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री उमर अब्दुल्ला और तत्कालीन केंद्रीय संचार और आईटी मंत्री सचिन पायलट ने इसका उद्घाटन किया। ये पोस्ट ऑफिस जिस हाउसबोट में है, उसमें दो कमरे हैं। एक कमरा पोस्ट ऑफिस के तौर पर काम करता है और दूसरा कमरा संग्रहालय के तौर पर। संग्रहालय में भारतीय डाक के इतिहास से जुड़ी अद्वितीय सामग्री प्रदर्शन के लिए रखी गई है।

धरती का स्वर्ग कहे जाने वाले कश्मीर की मशहूर डल झील में स्थित इस “फ्लोटिंग पोस्ट ऑफिस” में वो सारे कामकाज होते हैं, जो दूसरे सामान्य पोस्ट ऑफिस में होते हैं। हालांकि इस पोस्ट ऑफिस में कुछ चीजें दूसरे डाकघरों से अलग भी हैं। मसलन, इस डाकखाने की मुहर पर तारीख और पते के साथ चप्पू खे रहे नाविक की तस्वीर बनी होती है।

डल झील के हाउसबोट में ठहरने वाले पर्यटक और वहां घूमने आए पर्यटक अपने मित्रों-परिजनों को डाक भेजने के लिए इसका उपयोग करते हैं. यहां के लोग इस डाकघर की बचत योजनाओं का भी फायदा उठाते हैं एवं अपनी मेहनत की कमाई इसमें एकत्रित करते हैं. 

आम तौर पर इस पोस्ट ऑफिस को कामकाज में कोई दिक्कत नहीं आती, लेकिन साल 2014 में आई बाढ़ में ये पोस्ट ऑफिस भी संकट में घिर गया। राहत एवं बचाव दल के जवानों ने इस पोस्ट ऑफिस को बाढ़ के दौरान एक जगह अंकुश लगाकर बांधा था। जब बाढ़ थम गई तो इसे दोबारा डल झील में वापस लाया गया।

          Today we will tell you about such a post office, about which few people will know.  The post office we are talking about is the "floating post office" which is present on the most famous and beautiful Dal Lake in Kashmir.

          The largest postal service in the world is in India.  The Indian Postal System, which is almost 500 years old, is today ranked first in the world's most reliable and better postal system.

          As such, it is the post office of the British era.  Previously the post office was named "Nehru Park Post Office", but in August 2011 the then Chief Post Master John Samuel named it "Floating Post Office".  It was inaugurated in August 2011 by the then Chief Minister of the state Omar Abdullah and the then Union Communications and IT Minister Sachin Pilot.  The houseboat that this post office is in has two rooms.  One room serves as a post office and the other room serves as a museum.  The museum has unique material related to the history of Indian post kept for display.

This "floating post office" located in the famous Dal Lake of Kashmir, called Paradise on Earth, has all the functions that are done in other normal post offices.  However, some things in this post office are also different from other post offices.  For example, the seal of this post office has a picture of the sailor playing the paddle with the date and address.

Tourists staying in the houseboats of Dal Lake and tourists visiting there use it to send mail to their friends and family.  People here also take advantage of the savings schemes of this post office and collect their hard earned money in it.

Generally, this post office does not have any problem in functioning, but in the floods of 2014, this post office was also in crisis.  Relief and rescue teams had tied up this post office with a curb at one place during the flood.  When the flood stopped, it was brought back to Dal Lake.
