Rabbit on the moon
The Jatakas discuss the story of the generosity of a rabbit today, furthering the order of the stories.
A rabbit lived in a forest on the banks of the Ganges. He had three friends - Bandar, Jackal and Beaver. All four friends wanted to become danavir. While talking one day, they decided to make the ultimate donation on the day of Uposath, because the full fruit of that day's donation is received. Such is the concept of Buddhism. (Uposath is the day of the Buddhist religious festival).
When the day of Upasoth came, all the friends came out of their homes in the morning in search of food. When the wandering beaver caught sight of seven low-lying fish on the banks of the Ganges, he brought them to his home. At the same time, Jackal also stole yogurt handi and a piece of meat from somewhere. The jumping monkey also broke a bunch of ripe mangoes from a garden and brought it to his house. The three friends pledged to donate the same items. But his fourth friend Rabbit was not an ordinary creature. He thought that if he donated his food, that is, weed, then the person receiving the donation would have no benefit. Therefore, on the occasion of Upasath, he decided to donate himself for the purpose of making the petitioner absolutely satisfied.
The decision of his own renunciation began to oscillate the entire universe and healed the posture of Sakka. In the Vedic tradition, Sakka is called Shakra or Indra. When Sakka learned the reason of this very supernatural event, he himself arrived at their homes as a sannyasin to test the charity charity of the four friends.
The beaver, the jackal and the monkey wanted to donate fish, meat and yogurt and ripe mango flakes from their homes to Sakka, but Sakka did not accept the items given by them. He then approached the rabbit and pleaded for alms.
The rabbit proposed the opportunity of donation to bake his or her entire body of flesh in the fireplace. When the brazier was burnt, he jerked his follicles three times so that the small creatures in his follicles would not burn in the fire. Then he found himself in a burning fire with great decency.
Sakka was shocked at his charity. For a long time, he had not seen or heard such charity.
Yes, surprise; The fire did not burn the rabbit. Because that fire was magical. There was a hallucination of the trial conducted by Sakka. Hypnotized Sakka then praised the rabbit and mashed a mountain of the moon with his own hands and made a rabbit sign on the moon and said, "As long as there is a mark of rabbit on this moon, O rabbit, remember the world your charity Will keep
