जातक कथाओं के क्रम में आज हम एक मृग की कथा का यहां वर्णन करेंगे। एक ऐसा मृग जो साधारण नहीं था। वह अप्रतिम सौंदर्य के साथ साथ मनुष्य की तरह बातचीत करने में भी समर्थ था। तो आइए आज इस जातक कहानियों की शुरुआत एक मृग कथा से करते हैं।

रुरु एक मृग था। सोने के रंग में ढ़ला उसका सुंदर सजीला बदन माणिक, नीलम और पन्ने की कांति की चित्रांगता के साथ शोभायमान था। उसके बाल मखमल से मुलायम, आंखें आसमानी तथा तरासे स्फटिक से उसके खुर और सींग सहज ही किसी का मन मोह लेने वाले थे। जब भी वह जंगल में चौकड़िया भरता तो उसे देखने वाला हर कोई उसकी तरफ आकर्षित हो उठता था, और आहे भर उठता था। जाहिर है कि रुरु एक साधारण मृग नहीं था। उसकी अप्रतिम सुंदरता उसकी विशेषता थी। उसकी एक और विशेषता थी कि वह विवेकशील भी था और मनुष्य की तरह बातचीत करने में भी समर्थ था।

पूर्व जन्म के संस्कार से उसे ज्ञात था कि मनुष्य स्वभाव से ही लोभी प्राणी है। और लोभवश मनुष्य मानवीय करुणा का भी प्रतिकार करता चला आया है। फिर भी सभी प्राणियों के लिए उसकी करुणा प्रबल थी। और मनुष्य उसके करुणा भाव के लिए कोई अपवाद नहीं था। यही करुणा रुरु की सबसे बड़ी विशिष्टता थी।

एक दिन रूरू जंगल में स्वच्छंद विहार कर रहा था, तभी उसे किसी मनुष्य के चिल्लाने की स्वर सुनाई पड़ी। स्वर का अनुसरण करता हुआ जब वह वहां पहुंचा तो उसने वहां की पहाड़ी नदी की धारा में एक आदमी को बहता पाया। रुरु की करुणा सहज ही फूट पड़ी। वह तुरंत पानी में कूद गया और डूबते व्यक्ति को अपने पैरों को पकड़ने की सलाह दी। डूबता व्यक्ति बहुत घबराया हुआ था। वह रुरु के पैरों को ना पकड़कर उसके ऊपर ही सवार हो गया। नाजुक रुरु उसे झटक कर अलग कर सकता था। मगर उसने ऐसा नहीं किया, अपितु अनेक कठिनाइयों के बाद भी रुरु ने उस व्यक्ति को अपनी पीठ पर लादे बड़े संयम और मनोबल के साथ किनारे पर ला खड़ा किया। सुरक्षित व्यक्ति ने जब रुरु को धन्यवाद देना चाहा, तो रुरु ने उससे कहा अगर तुम सच में मुझे धन्यवाद देना चाहते हो तो यह बात किसी को भी नहीं बताना कि तुमने एक ऐसे मृग द्वारा पुनर्जीवन पाया है, जो एक विशिष्ट स्वर्ण मृग है। क्योंकि तुम्हारी दुनिया के लोग जब मेरे अस्तित्व को जानेंगे तो वे निसंदेह मेरा शिकार करने के इच्छुक होंगे। इस प्रकार रुरु उस मनुष्य को विदा कर अपने निवास स्थान पर चला गया।

कालांतर में उस राज्य की रानी को एक सपना आया। उसे स्वप्न में रुरु का साक्षात दर्शन हुआ। रुरु की अप्रतिम सुंदरता पर मुग्ध और हर सुंदर वस्तु को प्राप्त करने की तीव्र इच्छा रखने वाली रानी ने रुरु को अपने पास रखने की लालसा जाहिर की। उसने उस समय के राजा से रुरु को ढूंढ कर लाने का आग्रह किया। सत्ता के मद में चूर राजा उसकी याचना को ठुकरा नहीं सका। उसने नगर में ढिंढोरा पिटवा दिया कि जो कोई भी रानी द्वारा कल्पित मृग को ढूंढने में सहायता करेगा, उसे वह एक गांव तथा 10 सुंदर युवतीयां पुरस्कार में देगा। राजा के ढिंढोरे की आवाज उस व्यक्ति ने भी सुनी जिसे रुरु ने बचाया था। उस व्यक्ति को रुरु का निवास स्थान पता था। बिना एक भी क्षण गंवाए वह दौड़ता हुआ राजा के दरबार में पहुंचा और हांफते हुए उसने रुरु का सारा भेद राजा के सामने बता दिया।

राजा और उसके सिपाही उस व्यक्ति के साथ तत्काल उस वन में पहुंचे और उनके निवास स्थान को चारों ओर से घेर लिया। उनकी खुशी का ठिकाना न रहा जब उन्होंने रुरु को रानी की बताई छवि के अनुरूप पाया। तब राजा ने रुरु पर निशाना लगाया। रुरु ठीक उनके निशाने पर था। चारों तरफ से घिरे रुरु ने तब राजा से मनुष्य की भाषा में कहा, हे राजन! तुम मुझे मार डालो मगर उससे पहले यह बताओ कि तुम्हें मेरा ठिकाना कैसे पता लगा। उत्तर में राजा ने अपने तीर को घुमाते हुए उस व्यक्ति के सामने रोक दिया, जिसकी जान रुरु ने बचाई थी। उसी समय रुरु के मुख से यह वाक्य फूट पड़ा-

"निकाल लो लकड़ी के कुंदे को पानी से,
ना निकालना कभी एक अकृतज्ञ इंसान को।"

राजा ने जब रुरु से उसके संवाद का आशय पूछा तो उसने राजा को उस व्यक्ति के डूबने और बचाए जाने की पूरी कहानी सुनाई। रुरु की करुणा ने राजा की करुणा को भी जगा दिया। उस व्यक्ति की कृतघ्नता पर उसे रोष भी आया। राजा ने उसी तीर से उस व्यक्ति का संहार करना चाहा। तो करुणावतार मृग ने उस व्यक्ति का वध ना करने की प्रार्थना की।
रुरु की विशेषताओं से प्रभावित राजा ने उसे अपने साथ अपने राज्य में आने का निमंत्रण दिया। रुरु ने राजा के अनुग्रह को नहीं ठुकराया और कुछ दिनों तक वह राजा के आतिथ्य को स्वीकार कर पुनः अपने निवास स्थान को लौट आया।

Moral/शिक्षा:-
कृतघ्नता अंततः मनुष्य को पतन के गर्त में ढकेलती है अतः मनुष्य को हमेशा कृतज्ञ तथा क्षमाशील रहना चाहिए।

Whenever he would fill the guard in the forest, everyone who saw him was attracted to him, and he was awake. Apparently Ruru was not an ordinary antelope. Her unmatched beauty was her specialty. Another feature of his was that he was also intelligent and able to talk like a human being.

From the rites of previous birth, he knew that man is a greedy creature by nature. And the brilliant man has also been in retaliation for human compassion. Yet his compassion for all beings was strong. And man was no exception to his compassion. This was the greatest peculiarity of Karuna Ruru.

One day Ruru was in the forest for a free ride, when he heard a shout of a man. Following the voice, when he reached there, he found a man flowing in the stream of the mountain river there. Ruru's compassion spontaneously exploded. He immediately jumped into the water and advised the drowning man to hold his feet. The drowning person was very nervous. He rode over Ruru's feet, not holding him. The fragile Ruru could tear him apart. But he did not do this, but even after many difficulties, Ruru brought the man to the shore with great restraint and morale on his back. When the safe person wanted to thank Ruru, Ruru said to him if you really want to thank me, don't tell anyone that you have been resurrected by an antelope, which is a typical golden deer. Because when people of your world come to know my existence, they will undoubtedly be willing to hunt me. Thus Ruru departed the man and went to his place of residence.

Later, the queen of that state had a dream. He saw Ruru in a dream. Rani, enchanted by Ruru's unmatched beauty and keenly seeking to obtain every beautiful thing, expressed her longing to keep Ruru with her. He urged the king of that time to find Ruru. The Churra king could not turn down his plea for power. He gave a thunderous applause to the city that whoever would help in finding the deer conceived by the queen, would give him a village and 10 beautiful young women in the prize. The voice of the king's drummer was also heard by the person whom Ruru had saved. The person knew Ruru's place of residence. Without losing a single moment, he rushed to the king's court, and gasping, he revealed the whole distinction of Ruru to the king.

The king and his soldiers immediately reached the forest with that person and surrounded their place of residence. His happiness did not remain when he found Ruru in harmony with the image of the queen. Then the king targeted Ruru. Ruru was right on his target. Surrounded by Ruru, the king then said to the king in human language, O Rajan! You kill me, but before that tell me how you found out my whereabouts. In reply, the king stopped his arrow in front of the person whose life Ruru had saved. At the same time, this sentence exploded from the mouth of Ruru-

"Take out the wooden block from the water,

Never remove a thankless person. "

When the king asks Ruru the meaning of his communication, he tells the king the whole story of the person being drowned and saved. Ruru's compassion also aroused the king's compassion. He also got furious at that person's gratitude. The king tried to kill the person with the same arrow. So Karunavatar deer prayed not to kill the person.

Impressed by Ruru's characteristics, the king invited him to come with him to his kingdom. Ruru did not turn down the king's favor and for a few days, he accepted the king's hospitality and returned to his place of residence again.
