उत्तराखण्ड का राज्य पशु "कस्तूरी हिरण" || State animal of Uttarakhand "Alpine Musk deer" || Musk deers (कस्तूरी मृग)

उत्तराखण्ड का राज्य पशु "कस्तूरी हिरण"  || State animal of Uttarakhand "Alpine Musk deer"

सिक्किम का राज्य पशु "लाल पांडा" || State animal of Sikkim "Red Panda"

सिक्किम  का राज्य पशु "लाल पांडा"  || State animal of Sikkim "Red Panda"

सिक्किम  का राज्य पशु "लाल पांडा"  || State animal of Sikkim "Red Panda"

सिक्किम  का राज्य पशु "लाल पांडा"  || State animal of Sikkim "Red Panda"

State Animal of Sikkim "Red Panda"

Local Name: Red Panda
Scientific Name: Ailurus fulgens

Continuing the discussion of state animals, let's talk about the state animal of Sikkim today. The state animal of Sikkim is the very beautiful "Red Panda". Reddish-brown in colour, the size of a house cat, the red panda is famous for its cute face and adorable defensive posture. Their facial markings include white eyebrows, red lines connecting their eyes to the corners of their mouths, and fluffy white ears.

सिक्किम  का राज्य पशु "लाल पांडा"  || State animal of Sikkim "Red Panda"

Their bodies are red on top and black on the bottom and their long - thick tails are made up of rings of red, brown and white. Red pandas spend most of their time in trees in their hilly forest habitats, swinging from one branch to another. Red pandas have two layers of fur, which help keep them safe in the cold Asian mountains - a soft undercoat and thick hair that covers it. They wrap their furry tails around themselves for extra warmth.

The red panda is a small arboreal mammal found in the forests of the northern mountains of India, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar and southern China. The red panda is a carnivorous animal, although it prefers bamboo leaves, but also eats eggs, birds and insects. It thrives best at an altitude of 2,200-4,800 meters in mixed deciduous and coniferous forests with a dense bamboo understorey, although evidence of red pandas has been found at an altitude of 1800 meters as well. It is a solitary animal, active mainly at night and mainly inactive during the day. Females, once pregnant, gestate for about 130 days and give birth to one to four cubs. Mothers raise their babies alone for three months and then leave them.

सिक्किम  का राज्य पशु "लाल पांडा"  || State animal of Sikkim "Red Panda"

A lesser-known fact about red pandas is that they were first scientifically described by zoologists in 1825 – 48 years before the giant panda, earning them the title of the original panda.

They are also sometimes known as little pandas, which refers to their size compared to the giant panda. The two species are not closely related, but share the same name mainly due to their similar diet – the word “panda” comes from the Nepali word for “bamboo eaters.”

The IUCN Red List lists the red panda as Endangered. The population continues to decline due to loss of habitat and poaching. Under Schedule I of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, the red panda enjoys the highest legal protection. WWF India has been working to conserve the species in the eastern Himalayan region since 2005.

त्रिपुरा का राज्य पशु " लंगूर/फायरे लंगूर " || State animal of Tripura "Langur/Phayre Langur"

त्रिपुरा का राज्य पशु " लंगूर/फायरे लंगूर " || State animal of Tripura "Langur/Phayre Langur"

त्रिपुरा का राज्य पशु " लंगूर/फायरे लंगूर " || State animal of Tripura "Langur/Phayre Langur"

Local name: Langur/Phayre Langur
Scientific name: Trachypithecus Phayrei

You must have seen many monkeys and I have also seen many, but I don't know if I have seen the monkey that I am going to discuss in this post today. Well, today let's talk about the state animal of Tripura.

त्रिपुरा का राज्य पशु " लंगूर/फायरे लंगूर " || State animal of Tripura "Langur/Phayre Langur"

The name of the state animal of Tripura is "Phayre's langur (Phayre's langur, Phayre's leaf monkey, spectacled leaf monkey)". Phayre's langur, Phayre leaf monkey, spectacled leaf monkey, Phayre's leaf monkey is difficult to identify due to its shy nature. They are found in eastern parts of Bangladesh, southwestern parts of China, parts of Myanmar and northeastern India. Phayre's leaf monkeys, once widely seen in many forests of northeastern India, are now restricted to small fragmented areas in Tripura, Assam and Mizoram. These monkeys normally stay high up in the trees and rarely come down to drink water.

The dark brown coloured langur has a black face with a distinct white patch around the eyes and lips. The lower parts are pale white in colour. Their claws are long and strong and the fingers are also long and strong. The skin of the face is dark brown to black, except for a light brown white patch around the mouth and eyes.

In males, the white eye rings around the eyes are parallel to the edge of the nose, resulting in a uniform black stripe in width. In females, the white eye rings around the eyes turn inwards towards the nose, forming a black triangular shape. The tip of the tail, feet and head are darker than the rest of the body. The colour of the eyes is dark brown or black. The nose is flat and dark in colour. Their claws are long and strong. Females have a light spot on their thighs. The female gives birth to one baby at a time, which drinks milk for about a year. The gestation period is between 200 and 208 days. The average lifespan of Fairy Leaf Monkeys is 20 years.

त्रिपुरा का राज्य पशु " लंगूर/फायरे लंगूर " || State animal of Tripura "Langur/Phayre Langur"

This arboreal species feeds mainly on leaves of many plants, flowers, various fruits and bamboo shoots. It has been observed that Fairy's leaf monkey also feeds in rubber plantations in and around Sipahijala Wildlife Sanctuary in Tripura. Studies have shown that due to the ability of Fairy's leaf monkey to digest the fruits and leaves of such a large variety of plants, they play a very important role in seed dispersal and maintaining the health of the forest ecosystem.

The special thing is that the monkeys being born in the species of these monkeys are also changing. Only a few selected ones are being born with a face that looks like glasses. The species of spectacled monkeys are shy and agile. There is a large round white patch around the eye of the leaf monkey. It looks like a pair of glasses, so this monkey is also called the spectacled monkey.

The spectacled monkeys are named after Sir Arthur Purves Phayre, an officer of the British Indian Army, who discovered this species. They like to drink water obtained by shaking dew and rain-soaked leaves. Apart from this, they survive by eating only fruits, flowers and leaves. Their scream is different.

त्रिपुरा का राज्य पशु " लंगूर/फायरे लंगूर " || State animal of Tripura "Langur/Phayre Langur"

Phayre's leaf monkey is listed as endangered in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. It has been reported that the population of this species has declined by more than 50% in the last three generations, due to a combination of habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, shifting cultivation and hunting. In India, Phayre's leaf monkey is listed as Schedule I, Part I in the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. It is also included in Appendix II of CITES.

पंजाब का राज्य पशु "काला हिरण"  || State Animal of Punjab "Blackbuck"

 पंजाब का राज्य पशु "काला हिरण"  || State Animal of Punjab "Blackbuck"

 पंजाब का राज्य पशु "काला हिरण"  || State Animal of Punjab "Blackbuck"

State animal of Punjab "Black Buck"

Local name: "Black Buck"
Scientific name: Antilope cervicapra

Black Buck was in the news when Salman Khan hunted it during the shooting of the film "Hum Saath Saath Hain". The film was very good, a good message was given to the society through the film. After that period, such films almost stopped being made. Salman Khan, who was convicted in the blackbuck hunting case, was sentenced to 5 years in prison. There is something special about this blackbuck, for hunting which Salman Khan had to go to jail. Well, let's return to our main post and know about the state animal of Punjab. This blackbuck is the state animal of Punjab.

पंजाब का राज्य पशु "काला हिरण"  || State Animal of Punjab "Blackbuck"

Blackbuck is originally found in India, Pakistan and Nepal. Its species were found in Bangladesh, but now it has become extinct there. Its condition is not good in India either and now it is limited to protected areas.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has placed the blackbuck in the Near Threatened or NT category. In fact, in the 20th century, their numbers declined drastically due to excessive hunting. The main reason for this was deforestation, which forced them to move towards residential areas and their hunting became easy and their numbers declined rapidly. Later, hunting of blackbuck was prohibited in India under Schedule-1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The male and female blackbuck have distinctive coloring. Male blackbucks are dark brown, black and white and have long, twisted horns, while the female is white without horns. Blackbucks are slender and their head to body length is about 110 cm. The adult male has black and white hair. The upper part of the body is black, while the lower part and a circle around the eyes are white. They have a body length of 100–140 cm (3.3–4.6 ft), shoulder height of 64–84 cm (2.10–2.76 ft) and tail length of 10–17 cm (3.9–6.7 in).

Adult males weigh between 20 and 50 kg and females between 20 and 35 kg. Blackbuck horns are ringed with one to four spiral turns, rarely with more than four turns; they can be up to 79 cm (31 in) long.

Males are light-colored at birth, but darken as adults. Females are yellowish-brown on the head and back. Both sexes have white undersides and insides of the legs. Older bucks are dark brown on the back, sides and front of the neck. With age they become almost black. Only the back of the neck remains brownish-red, and the yellow lateral band disappears. The blackbuck's eye rings, chin patch, chest, belly and inner legs are white.

According to the Indian Forest Protection Act, 1972, animals are placed in different schedules, of which the blackbuck comes under Schedule-1, which provides complete protection to wildlife and the highest penalties (3 to 7 years imprisonment) are prescribed for crimes under it. This is why Salman's case became serious.

पश्चिम बंगाल का राज्य पशु "फिशिंग कैट/मत्सय बिल्ली" || State Animal of State animal of West Bengal "Fishing Cat"

पश्चिम बंगाल का राज्य पशु "फिशिंग कैट/मत्सय बिल्ली" || State Animal of State animal of West Bengal "Fishing Cat"

Fishing cats are tall, well-built and have an olive brown body colour with black or brown spots in horizontal stripes along the length of the body. The face is spotted, short-haired and the nose and ears are distinctly flattened. The eyes are yellowish-brown in colour with a green pupil. The teeth of the fishing cat are small and poorly developed. The ears are small and round, black at the back with a prominent white spot in the centre. The white or light brown portion below the ear has a few white or dirty white hairs. The fur underneath is long and often covered with spots. There are dark stripes around the throat. Their tail is short (about one-third of their body length). Black incomplete rings are present on the tail.

Fishing cats are nocturnal (active at night) and hunt fish as well as frogs, crustaceans, snakes, birds and scavengers present on the carcasses of large animals.

It is twice the size of a domestic cat. The breeding season is between January and April. The age of sexual maturity is between 9 and 18 months. The breeding season is between January and April. They make a sound like "chuckling". The gestation period ranges between 63 and 70 days. The female gives birth to 2 or 3 kittens. Their eyes open by 16 days. They are able to move around actively by one month of age.

A major threat to the fishing cat is the destruction of wetlands, which are their preferred habitat. Wetland destruction threatens the fishing cat population and has declined drastically over the past decade. Since 2016, it has been listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List. This unique cat also faces threats related to hunting for meat and skin. Tribal hunters engage in ritual hunting practices throughout the year. It is also sometimes poached for its skin. Due to all these reasons, the number of fishing cats has declined.

Efforts have been made from time to time to conserve the fishing cat. In 2021, the Fishing Cat Conservation Alliance initiated a study of the biogeographical distribution of the fishing cat in the vulnerable and human-dominated landscape of the Northeast Ghats of Andhra Pradesh.
The Fishing Cat Project, launched in 2010, began to raise awareness about the fishing cat in West Bengal.
In 2012, the West Bengal government officially declared the fishing cat as the state animal and two large enclosures have been constructed in the Calcutta Zoo.
In Odisha, several NGOs and wildlife conservation societies are involved in fishing cat research and conservation work.

India's most populous state Uttar Pradesh was
formed in 1950. The state animal of Uttar Pradesh
is
Barasingha and it is a species of deer. It is an
important species in India, which is native to the
Indian
subcontinent. Many branches emerge from the horns of
Barasingha. Due to the large number of horns,
it has been
named Barasingha. In India, this species is
mainly found in the Terai region of Uttar
Pradesh, forests of
Assam and Madhya Pradesh. Barasingha is a vegetarian animal that eats
grass, leaves and fruits. It is a large deer species,
with males
standing up to 1.5 meters tall at the shoulder and
weighing up to 180 kg, while females are slightly
smaller and weigh around 120 kg. Barasingha
havea distinctive appearance, with a light brown coat,
white spots on their bodies and a unique set of
horns with 10 to 14 points.

The most distinctive feature of the Barasingha
is its horns. Adult males have 10-14 branches
of horns,
although some have been found to have up to
20 branches. It is named due to these branches,
which
means twelve horned. In central India it is
called Goinjak (male) or Gaoni (female). It is originally a forest-dwelling species. But
due to excessive hunting and depleting forests,
this species
is included in the list of endangered wildlife not
only in India but the whole world. Efforts are
also being
made by the Uttar Pradesh government to
conserve the Barasingha. Sanctuaries have
been reserved for
them. Dudhwa National Park and Kishanpur
Wildlife Sanctuary are prominent among them.
There is a
good population of them here. More than 1,500
swamp deer/Barasingha are found in Dudhwa
