बेरीनाग उत्तराखंड का एक छोटा सा हिल स्टेशन है, जो समुद्र तल से 6100 फीट की ऊंचाई पर स्थित है। बेरीनाग  उत्तराखंड के पिथौरागढ़ जिले के चौकोरी के कुमाऊं क्षेत्र में स्थित है। बेरीनाग में प्राकृतिक सुंदरता देखने को मिलती है और यह अपने प्राचीन नाग मंदिरों के लिए लोकप्रिय है। बेरीनाग को नाग मंदिरों का शहर भी कहा जाता है। इन्हीं नाग मंदिरों में से एक है वेणी नाग मंदिर। यह नाग देवता का एक रहस्यमयी मंदिर है, जिसकी आस्था और महिमा दूर दूर है। वेणीनाग देवता मंदिर में दो प्रमुख मेले लगते हैं, जो उत्तराखंड में लगने वाले प्रमुख मेलों में से एक हैं। 

इस मेले का सबसे बड़ा आकर्षण विशाल मैदान में लगने वाली चांचरी है, जिसमें सभी वर्गों के लोग बिना किसी भेदभाव के हिस्सा लेते हैं। स्त्री-पुरुष, बच्चे सभी मिलकर चांचरी का आनंद उठाते हैं। मेला जब अपनी चरम सीमा में होता है, तभी सांगड़ नामक गांव के दास ढोल-नगाड़ों के साथ बेरीनाग स्थित वेणीनाग मंदिर की ओर चल पड़ते हैं। जिसमें हजारों की संख्या में लोगों की भीड़ साथ में चलती है। 

बेरीनाग का इतिहास काफी पुराना है। नाग मंदिर आज इस क्षेत्र में आस्था के प्रमुख केंद्र हैं। यहां पर नागों के अलग-अलग मंदिर हैं। इन प्रमुख मंदिरों में बेरीनाग, धौली नाग, फेणी नाग, पिंगली नाग, काली नाग और सुंदरी नाग मंदिर है। यहां तक कि कुछ पहाड़ों का नाम भी नागों के नाम पर रखा गया है। ये नाग मंदिर आज इस क्षेत्र के लोगों के ईष्ट देवताओं के मंदिर हैं। इन मंदिरों में रहने वाले देवताओं को बेहद शक्तिशाली माना जाता है। इस क्षेत्र विशेष के अलावा अन्य स्थानों पर नागों के मंदिर नहीं हैं। 

उत्तराखंड के पिथौरागढ़ जिले में बेरीनाग के नाग मंदिरों का इतिहास आर्यों से भी पहले का रहा है। माना जाता है कि काकेशियन आर्यों के इस क्षेत्र में आने से पहले यहां पर नाग वंश का शासनकाल था। नाग वंश के प्रतापी शासकों के नाम पर आज भी उनके इस इलाके में काफी मंदिर हैं, जो अब भव्य रूप ले चुके हैं। 

कुछ धार्मिक पक्ष को मानने वाले इन्हें भगवान श्रीकृष्ण द्वारा पराजित किए गए कालीनाग का वंशज मानते हैं। इसके नाम पर यहां एक ऊंचा पहाड़ है और उसके शिखर पर कालीनाग का मंदिर मौजूद है, लेकिन इतिहासकार का केशियन आर्यों के आगमन से पूर्व के नागवंश से जोड़ते हैं। इन सब कारणों से बेरीनाग आज नागों के क्षेत्र के लिए जाना जाता है, जिसे अब मानस खण्ड कॉरिडोर में भी शामिल किया गया है ताकि इस क्षेत्र को धार्मिक पर्यटन से जोड़ा जा सके।

Berinag is full of natural beauty and is popular for its ancient Nag temples. Berinag is also called the city of Nag temples. One of these Nag temples is Beni Nag Temple. This is a mysterious temple of Nag Devta, whose faith and glory is far and wide. Two major fairs are held in the Veninag Devta Temple, which are one of the major fairs held in Uttarakhand.

The biggest attraction of this fair is the Chanchari held in a huge field, in which people of all classes participate without any discrimination. Men, women, children all enjoy Chanchari together. When the fair is at its peak, then the slaves of a village named Sangad start walking towards the Veninag temple located in Berinag with drums. In which a crowd of thousands of people walks along.

The history of Berinag is quite old. Nag temples are the main centers of faith in this region today. There are different temples of Nags here. These major temples include Berinag, Dhauli Nag, Feni Nag, Pingali Nag, Kali Nag and Sundari Nag Temple. Even some mountains are named after Nags. These Nag temples are today the temples of the favorite deities of the people of this region. The deities living in these temples are considered to be very powerful. Apart from this particular region, there are no temples of Nags in other places.

The history of Nag temples of Berinag in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand is even before the Aryans. It is believed that before the Caucasian Aryans came to this region, the Nag dynasty ruled here. Even today, there are many temples in this area in the name of the glorious rulers of the Nag dynasty, which have now taken a grand form.

Some religious believers consider them to be the descendants of Kalinag who was defeated by Lord Krishna. There is a high mountain named after it and a temple of Kalinag is present on its peak, but historians link it to the Naga dynasty before the arrival of the Kesian Aryans. For all these reasons, Berinag is today known for the region of Nagas, which has now also been included in the Manas Khand Corridor so that this area can be linked to religious tourism.
