भारत की राजधानी दिल्ली में स्थित लोटस मंदिर, दिल्ली के प्रमुख आकर्षणों में से एक है। यह एक बहाई उपासना मंदिर है। यह अपने आप में एक अनोखा मंदिर है। यहां पर ना ही कोई मूर्ति है और ना ही किसी प्रकार की पूजा की जाती है। इसके बावजूद इसे मंदिर के नाम से ही जाना जाता है। यहां पर लोग केवल शांति और सुकून की तलाश में आते हैं

यहां कि वास्तुकला अद्भुत है, जो लोगों को अपनी ओर लुभाती है। लोटस टेंपल को ईरानी वास्तुकार फरीबोर्ज सहबा ने कमल के आकार में डिजाइन किया था। कमल की तरह बने होने के कारण दुनिया भर के लोग इसे लोटस टेंपल के नाम से जानते हैं। कमल की आकृति में बना यह मंदिर दुनिया के सबसे खूबसूरत और भव्य मंदिरों में से एक है।

इस मंदिर की कई खूबियों हैं। यहां पर्यटकों के लिए धार्मिक पुस्तकों को पढ़ने के लिए लाइब्रेरी और आडियो-विजुअल रूम बने हुए हैं। बहाई समुदाय के अनुसार, ईश्वर एक है और उसके रूप अनेक हैं। वह मूर्ति पूजा को नहीं मानते हैं। मंदिर के अंदर अनुष्ठान करने की अनुमति नहीं है। वहीं, किसी भी धर्म-जाति के लोग कमल मंदिर में आ सकते हैं।

लोटस टेंपल का इतिहास

इस मंदिर को बनाने के लिए 1956 में जमीन खरीदी गई थी और उसी समय नींव डाली गई थी। 1980 में मंदिर का निर्माण शुरू किया गया और यह 1986 तक चला। 26 एकड़ में बने इस मंदिर का उद्घाटन 24 दिसंबर, 1986 को किया गया, लेकिन आम जनता के लिए मंदिर को 1 जनवरी, 1987 को खोला गया था। 

यहां प्रतिदिन हजारों लोग आते हैं। यहां आनेवाले सभी पर्यटकों को बहाई धर्म के बारे में बताया जाता है और बहाई धार्मिक सामग्री दी जाती है। मंदिर के 40 मीटर के हॉल में करीब 2400 लोग एक साथ बैठ सकते हैं। दिन में सफेद मोती की तरह चमकने वाला लोटस टेंपल रात को पानी में रंगबिरंगे सितारों के जैसा जगमगाता हुआ दिखाई देता है।

लोटस टेंपल से जुड़ी प्रमुख बातें

इस मंदिर के बनाने में नौ अंक का बहुत अधिक महत्व है। बहाई लोगों का मानना है कि चूंकि नौ सबसे बड़ा अंक है, इसलिए यह विस्तार, एकता और अखंडता का प्रतीक है। इसलिए इस मंदिर में नौ द्वार और नौ कोने हैं। मंदिर चारों ओर से नौ बड़े तालाबों से घिरा है। कमल के फूल की तीन क्रम में नौ-नौ कर कुल 27 पंखुड़ियां हैं। 

बहाई मंदिरों में व्यापक गोलाकार गुंबद मौजूद हैं और दिल्ली का लोटस टेम्पल दुनिया के खूबसूरत पूजा स्थलों में से एक है। मंदिर परिसर इतना बड़ा है कि इसमें एक साथ 2000 से अधिक लोग बैठ सकते हैं। इस मंदिर में चार कुंड हैं, जिनमें जल हमेशा बहता रहता है।

मंदिर 20 फीट की ऊंचाई पर है, यहां पर पहुंचने के लिए सीढ़ियां बनी हुई हैं। 

प्रार्थना समय

मंदिर में रोज सुबह 10 बजे, दोपहर 2 बजे व 3 बजे और शाम 5 बजे प्रार्थना सेवा का समय होता है। इस समय 10-15 मिनट तक विभिन्न पवित्र ग्रंथों का पाठ किया जाता है। इस समय एकदम से पिन ड्रॉप साइसेंस का माहौल होता है। प्रार्थना कक्ष में शांति बनाए रखने के लिए प्रार्थना तक कक्ष के गेट को बंद कर दिया जाता है। प्रत्येक प्रार्थना सेवा 10-15 मिनट की होती है।

प्रार्थना कक्ष में जूते-चप्पल पहन कर जाने की अनुमति नहीं है। मंदिर में प्रवेश से पहले अपने जूते-चप्पल ’जूताघर’ में जमा करने होते हैं। मेन गेट पर ह्वीलचेयर की सुविधा भी उपलब्ध है। मंदिर परिसर में खाने-पीने की चीज ले जाने की अनुमति नहीं है और न ही भारी सामान या बैग लेकर जाने की।

सूचना केंद्र

इस उपासना मंदिर में रोज हजारों पर्यटक आते हैं। यहां आकर इसकी खूबसूरती को देखकर उनमें इसके बारे में और बहुत कुछ जानने की लालसा उठने लगती है। वे बहाई धर्म के बारे में भी जानना चाहते हैं इसके लिए यहां एक सूचना केंद्र बनाया गया है। यहां बहाई उपासना मंदिर और बहाई धर्म के बारे में सारी जानकारियां दी जाती हैं। सूचना केंद्र में 400 से ज्यादा लोगों के बैठने की क्षमता वाला एक विशाल ऑडिटोरियम और दो 70 सीटर ऑडिटोरियम भी हैं। यहां बहाई उपासना मंदिर और बहाई धर्म के बारे में फिल्में दिखाई जाती हैं।

इसके साथ ही यहां कई तरह के कार्यक्रम का भी आयोजन किया जाता है। यह सूचना केंद्र सोमवार से शनिवार तक सुबह 9 बजे से 12 बजे तक और शाम में 2 बजे से 5 बजे तक खुला रहता है। यहां एक पुस्तकालय भी है जिसमें 111 भाषाओं में 2000 से भी अधिक बहाई साहित्य का संग्रह है।

प्रार्थना कक्ष और सूचना केंद्र में फोटोग्राफी की अनुमति नहीं है। इसे छोड़कर अन्य जगहों पर फोटोग्राफी कर सकते हैं। 

कैसे पहुंचें?

लोटस टेंपल कालकाजी- नेहरू प्लेस के पास स्थित है। देश के किसी भी हिस्से से दिल्ली पहुंच कर यहां आसानी से आ सकते हैं। 

मेट्रो से-

कालकाजी मंदिर मेट्रो स्टेशन मंदिर का सबसे नजदीकी मेट्रो स्टेशन है। यहां से पैदल मंदिर पहुंचा जा  सकता है।

बस से-

नेहरू प्लेस नजदीकी बस अड्डा है। यहां से दिल्ली के किसी भी इलाके से आ सकते हैं।

नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन से-

लोटस मंदिर नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन से करीब 16 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है। यहां से बस, मेट्रो, ऑटो या टैक्सी से आ सकते हैं।

हवाई जहाज से-

बहाई उपासना मंदिर इंदिरा गांधी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा से करीब 17 किलोमीटर दूर है। यहां से भी बस, मेट्रो, ऑटो या टैक्सी से पहुंच सकते हैं।

कब पहुंचे?

दिल्ली में गर्मीयों में बहुत गर्मी और ठंडियों में जबरदस्त सर्दी पड़ती है। इसलिए यहां फरवरी से मार्च और सितंबर से नवंबर के बीच आना घूमने के लिए ज्यादा अच्छा रहता है।

लोटल टेंपल के पास ही कालकाजी मंदिर है। यहां दर्शन के साथ ही प्राचीन भैरों मंदिर और कैलाश शिव मंदिर भी जा सकते हैं। इसके साथ ही पास में ही है इस्कॉन मंदिर।

The Lotus Temple located in the capital of India, Delhi, is one of the major attractions of Delhi. It is a Baha'i worship temple. It is a unique temple in itself. There is neither any idol nor any kind of worship done here. Despite this, it is known as a temple. People come here only in search of peace and tranquility.

The architecture here is amazing, which attracts people. The Lotus Temple was designed by Iranian architect Fariborz Sahba in the shape of a lotus. Due to being built like a lotus, people all over the world know it as the Lotus Temple. Built in the shape of a lotus, this temple is one of the most beautiful and grand temples in the world.

This temple has many features. There are libraries and audio-visual rooms for tourists to read religious books. According to the Baha'i community, God is one and he has many forms. They do not believe in idol worship. Performing rituals inside the temple is not allowed. People of any religion or caste can visit the Lotus Temple.

History of the Lotus Temple

Land was purchased in 1956 to build this temple and the foundation was laid at the same time. The construction of the temple started in 1980 and it continued till 1986. This temple built on 26 acres was inaugurated on 24 December 1986, but the temple was opened to the general public on 1 January 1987.

Thousands of people come here every day. All the tourists coming here are told about the Bahai religion and are given Bahai religious material. About 2400 people can sit together in the 40 meter hall of the temple. The Lotus Temple, which shines like a white pearl during the day, appears twinkling like colorful stars in water at night.

Important things related to the Lotus Temple

The number nine has great significance in the construction of this temple. Baha'is believe that since nine is the largest number, it symbolizes expansion, unity and integrity. Therefore, this temple has nine gates and nine corners. The temple is surrounded by nine large ponds on all sides. The lotus flower has a total of 27 petals, nine in three rows.

Baha'i temples have wide circular domes and the Lotus Temple of Delhi is one of the most beautiful places of worship in the world. The temple complex is so large that more than 2000 people can sit in it at a time. There are four ponds in this temple, in which water always flows.

The temple is at a height of 20 feet, stairs have been built to reach here.

Prayer time

The temple has prayer service time every day at 10 am, 2 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm. At this time, various holy texts are recited for 10-15 minutes. At this time there is an atmosphere of pin drop silence. To maintain peace in the prayer hall, the gate of the prayer hall is closed till the prayer. Each prayer service lasts for 10-15 minutes.

Wearing shoes and slippers in the prayer hall is not allowed. Before entering the temple, one has to deposit his shoes and slippers in the 'Jutaghar'. Wheelchair facility is also available at the main gate. Carrying food items and heavy luggage or bags is not allowed in the temple premises.

Information Center

Thousands of tourists visit this worship temple every day. After coming here and seeing its beauty, they start craving to know more about it. They also want to know about the Baha'i religion, for which an information center has been built here. All the information about the Baha'i worship temple and the Baha'i religion is given here. The information center also has a huge auditorium with a seating capacity of more than 400 people and two 70-seater auditoriums. Along with this, many types of programs are also organized here. This information center is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm. There is also a library here which has a collection of more than 2000 Bahai literature in 111 languages.

Photography is not allowed in the prayer room and information center. Photography is allowed at other places except this.

Lotus Temple is located near Kalkaji- Nehru Place. One can easily reach here after reaching Delhi from any part of the country.

By Metro-

Kalkaji Mandir Metro Station is the nearest metro station to the temple. One can reach the temple on foot from here.

By Bus-

Nehru Place is the nearest bus stand. One can reach here from any part of Delhi.

From New Delhi Railway Station-

Lotus Temple is about 16 kms from New Delhi Railway Station. You can reach here by bus, metro, auto or taxi.

By plane-

Bahai Worship Temple is about 17 kms from Indira Gandhi International Airport. You can reach here by bus, metro, auto or taxi.

When to reach?

Delhi experiences extreme heat in summers and extreme cold in winters. Therefore, it is better to visit here between February to March and September to November.
