अरुणाचल प्रदेश राज्य अपनी अविश्वसनीय प्राकृतिक सुंदरता, समृद्ध संस्कृति और अद्वितीय जैव विविधता के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। अरुणाचल प्रदेश का शाब्दिक अर्थ है उगते हुए सूरज की भूमि। यह दो शब्दों में मिलकर बना है अरुण: भगवान सूर्य का पुत्र और अंचल: क्षेत्र या प्रदेश। इस राज्य को भारत का फिनलैंड भी कहा जा सकता है क्योंकि सर्दियों के समय में इस राज्य का ज्यादातर हिस्सा बर्फ से ढंक जाता है। हर राज्य की तरह अरुणाचल प्रदेश का अपना राजकीय प्रतीक है।

भारत के उत्तरपूर्वी भाग में स्थित अरुणाचल प्रदेश राज्य का राज्य पुष्प "फ़ॉक्सटेल ऑर्चिड" है। सनातनी धर्म की मान्यताओं व विश्वास के चलते इस फूल को हिंदी में "द्रौपदीमाला" कहते हैं। द्रोपदी के गजरे पर सजने वाला ये पुष्प मां सीता काे भी बेहद प्रिय था। Rhynchostylis retusa बोटानिकल नाम से विख्यात ये पुष्प फ़ॉक्सटेल ऑर्चिड के नाम से दुनियाभर मे जाना जाता है।वियतनाम, मलेशिया, इंडोनेशिया व भारत के अरुणाचल प्रदेश, आसाम व बंगाल में ये बहुतायत में प्राकृतिक रूप से उगता है। अरुणाचल प्रदेश व आसाम का ये “राज्य पुष्प” है। 

अरुणाचल प्रदेश को “ऑर्किड का स्वर्ग” कहा जाता है, क्योंकि यहाँ ऑर्किड की लगभग 622 (जो देश की आर्किड प्रजातियों का लगभग 40% है) पाई जाती हैं, और अनुमान है कि आर्किड प्रजातियों की सबसे अधिक संख्या निचले सुबनसिरी जिले के जीरो घाटी में पाई जाती है। वास्तव में, यह राज्य वनस्पति विज्ञानियों के लिए एक आकर्षण का केंद्र है।

विभिन्न भारतीय नृत्यों में महिलएं इस फूल का श्रृंगार कर नाचती गाती हैं। इस कड़ी में असम का बीहू नृत्य है जो दुनियाभर में प्रसिद्ध है। सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम से लेकर शुभ अवसर पर यहां की महिलाएं बीहू नृत्य करती हैं । मान्यताओं के मुताबिक इस दौरान महिलाएं बालों में इस फूल को जरूर लगाती है। इस फूल को प्रेम का प्रतीक भी माना जाता है। एक मान्यता ये भी है कि वनवास के दौरान भगवान श्रीराम पंचवटी नासिक में रूके थे। तब सीता मां ने भी इस फूल का इस्तेमाल किया था। जिस वजह से इसे सीतावेणी भी कहा जाता है।

यह एक एपिफाइट जड़ी बूटी है, जिसे गुलाबी, सफेद, बैंगनी या बकाइन रंग के साथ देखा जा सकता है, जो एक दूसरे से सटे होते हैं और 30-40 सेमी तक लंबे होते हैं। उनके प्राकृतिक आवास नम, छायादार, पर्णपाती जंगल और उपवन हैं, जहाँ जून-जुलाई में फूल और फल लगते हैं।

इसकी फॉक्सटेल जैसी लंबी, फूली हुई, डूबती हुई पुष्पक्रम आकृति के कारण इसे फॉक्सटेल ऑर्किड कहा जाता है। अरुणाचल की पड़ोसी बहन, असम भी इसे अपना राज्य फूल मानता है और यह उनकी संस्कृति के लिए महत्वपूर्ण मूल्य रखता है।

The state flower of Arunachal Pradesh, located in the northeastern part of India, is Foxtail Orchid. Due to the beliefs and faith of Sanatani Dharma, this flower is called Draupadimala in Hindi. This flower, which adorned Draupadi's garland, was also very dear to Mother Sita. Known by the botanical name Rhynchostylis retusa, this flower is known worldwide as Foxtail Orchid. It grows naturally in abundance in Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Bengal of India. It is the "State Flower" of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

Arunachal Pradesh is called the "Paradise of Orchids" because about 622 orchid species (which is about 40% of the country's orchid species) are found here, and it is estimated that the highest number of orchid species is found in the Zero Valley of Lower Subansiri district. In fact, this state is a center of attraction for botanists.

In various Indian dances, women sing and dance adorned with this flower. In this series, there is the Bihu dance of Assam which is famous all over the world. From cultural programs to auspicious occasions, women here perform Bihu dance. According to beliefs, during this time women definitely wear this flower in their hair. This flower is also considered a symbol of love. There is also a belief that during the exile, Lord Shri Ram stayed in Panchvati Nashik. Then Sita Maa also used this flower. Due to which it is also called Sitaveni.

It is an epiphyte herb, spotted with pink, white, purple or lilac colour, growing closely together and up to 30-40 cm long. Their natural habitat is moist, shady, deciduous forests and groves, where flowering and fruiting occur in June-July.

It is called foxtail orchid because of its foxtail-like long, fluffy, drooping inflorescence shape. Arunachal's sister neighbour, Assam also considers it as their state flower and it holds significant value for their culture.
