हिमाचल प्रदेश देवी देवताओं की भूमि है। प्रदेश के कोने-कोने में बहुत से प्रसिद्ध तीर्थ स्थल हैं, लेकिन ऊना जिला में स्थित प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक स्थल चिंतपूर्णी देवी (Chintpurni Devi) का अपना ही महत्व है। चिंतपूर्णी मंदिर (Chintpurni Temple) सोला सिंही श्रेणी की पहाड़ी पर स्थित है। भरवाई गांव होशियारपुर- धर्मशाला रोड पर स्थित है। यहां से चिंतपूर्णी 3 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है, यह रोड राज्य मार्ग से जुड़ा हुआ है। चिंतपूर्णी अर्थात चिंता को दूर करने वाली देवी जिसे छिन्नमस्तिका भी कहा जाता है। छिन्नमस्तिका का अर्थ है -'एक देवी जो बिना सर के हैं'। चिंतपूर्णी मंदिर शक्तिपीठ मंदिरों में से एक है। पूरे भारतवर्ष में 51 शक्ति पीठ हैं, जिनकी उत्पत्ति कथा एक ही है। कहा जाता है कि यहां पर पार्वती जी के पवित्र पांव गिरे थे।

माँ चिंतपूर्णी मंदिर का इतिहास

मंदिर का इतिहास इस प्रकार से है। प्राचीन कथाओं के अनुसार कहा जाता है कि 14वीं शताब्दी में माई दास नामक दुर्गा भक्त ने इस स्थान की खोज की थी। माईदास का जन्म पटियाला में हुआ था। माईदास के दो बड़े भाई थे। माईदास का अधिकतर समय पूजा पाठ में व्यतीत होता था, इसलिए वह परिवार के कार्य में हाथ नहीं बंटा पाते थे, जिससे भाइयों ने माईदास को परिवार से अलग कर दिया। माई दास ने अपना समय पूजा पाठ दुर्गा भक्ति में व्यतीत करना जारी रखा। एक दिन माई दास जी अपने ससुराल जा रहे थे। रास्ते में एक वटवृक्ष के नीचे आराम करने बैठ गए। इसी वृक्ष के नीचे आजकल दुर्गा भगवती जी का मंदिर है। वहां घना जंगल था, तब इस जंगल का नाम छपरोह था, जिसे आजकल चिंतपूर्णी कहते हैं। थकावट के कारण माईदास जी की आंख लग गई और स्वप्न में उन्हें दिव्य तेजस्वी कन्या के दर्शन हुए, जो उन्हें कह रही थीं कि माईदास! इसी वटवृक्ष के नीचे बीच में मेरी पिंडी बनाकर उसकी पूजा करो, तुम्हारे सब दुख दूर होंगे। माईदास को कुछ समझ ना आया और वे ससुराल चले गए। ससुराल से वापस आते समय उसी स्थान पर माई दास जी के कदम फिर रुक गए। उन्हें आगे कुछ ना दिखाई दिया, वह फिर उसी वटवृक्ष के नीचे बैठ गए और स्तुति करने लगे । उन्होंने मन ही मन प्रार्थना की, 'हे दुर्गे मां! यदि मैंने सच्चे मन से आप की उपासना की है तो दर्शन देकर मुझे आदेश दो'। बार बार स्मृति करने पर उन्हें सिंह वाहिनी दुर्गा के दर्शन हुए। देवी ने कहा मैं उस वटवृक्ष के नीचे चिरकाल से विराजमान हूं। लोग यवनों के आक्रमण तथा अत्याचारों के कारण मुझे भूल गए हैं। तुम मेरे परम भक्त हो, अतः यहां रहकर मेरी आराधना करो, तुम्हारे वंश की रक्षा मैं करूंगी।

माई दास जी ने कहा कि, मैं यहां रह कर कैसे आप की आराधना करूंगा। यहां पर घने जंगल में ना तो पीने योग्य पानी है, और ना ही रहने योग्य उपयुक्त स्थान। मां दुर्गा ने कहा, कि मैं तुमको निर्भय दान देती हूं कि, तुम किसी भी स्थान पर जाकर कोई भी शिला उठाओ वहां से जल निकल आएगा। इसी जल से तुम मेरी रोज पूजा करना। आज इसी वटवृक्ष के नीचे मां चिंतपूर्णी का भव्य मंदिर है, और वह शिला भी मंदिर में रखी हुई है। वट वृक्ष पर श्रद्धालु कच्ची मौली अपनी मनोकामना की पूर्ति के लिए बनते हैं। भवन के मध्य में माता की गोलाकार पिंडी है, जिसके दर्शन भक्तों कतार बद्ध होकर करते हैं। जिस स्थान पर जल निकला था, वहां सुंदर तालाब है। आज भी उसी स्थान से जल निकालकर माता का अभिषेक किया जाता है। मंदिर के मुख्य द्वार पर सोने की परत चढ़ी हुई है।इस मुख्य द्वार का प्रयोग नवरात्रि के समय किया जाता है। पुराणों के अनुसार यह स्थान 4 महारुद्र के मध्य स्थित है। एक ओर कालेश्वर महादेव, दूसरी ओर शिववाड़ी, तीसरी ओर नारायण महादेव, चौथी और मुचकुंद महादेव हैं।

मार्कंडेय पुराण के अनुसार, ऐसा विश्वास किया जाता है कि, सती चंडी की सभी दुष्टों पर विजय के उपरांत उनके दो शिष्यों अजय और विजय ने सती से अपने खून की प्यास बुझाने की प्रार्थना की थी। यह सुनकर सती चंडी ने अपना मस्तिष्क छीन्न कर लिया था, इसलिए सती का नाम छिन्नमस्तिका पड़ा।

इस स्थान पर प्रकृति का सुंदर नजारा देखने को मिलता है यात्रा में मनमोहक दृश्य यात्रियों का मन मोह लेते हैं।यहां आकर माता के भक्तों को आध्यात्मिक आनंद की प्राप्ति होती है। चिंतपूर्णी जाने के लिए होशियारपुर, चंडीगढ़, दिल्ली, धर्मशाला, शिमला और बहुत से स्थानों से सीधे बस यहां पहुंचती है। यहां पर वर्ष में 3 बार मेले लगते हैं- पहला चैत्र मास के नवरात्रि में, दूसरा श्रावण मास में और तीसरा अश्विन मास के नवरात्रि में। नवरात्रि में यहां श्रद्धालुओं की काफी भीड़ लगती है। चिंतपूर्णी में बहुत सी धर्मशालाएं हैं जो बस अड्डे के पास स्थित है, और कुछ मंदिर के निकट स्थित हैं।

Chintpurni is at a distance of 3 kilometers from here, this road is connected to the state road. Chintpurni means goddess who removes worries, also known as Chinnamastika. The meaning of Chhinnamastika is 'a goddess who is without a head'. Chintpurni Temple is one of the Shaktipeeth temples. There are 51 Shakti Peeths in the whole of India, whose origin story is the same. It is said that the holy feet of Parvati ji fell here.

History of Maa Chintpurni Temple

The history of the temple is as follows. According to ancient legends it is said that in the 14th century, a Durga devotee named Mai Das had discovered this place. Maidas was born in Patiala. Maidas had two elder brothers. Most of the time of Maidas was spent in worship, so he could not help in the family work, due to which the brothers separated Maidas from the family. Mai Das continued to spend her time in worshiping Durga Bhakti. One day Mai Das ji was going to her in-laws' house. On the way, he sat down to rest under a banyan tree. Nowadays there is a temple of Durga Bhagwati ji under this tree. There was a dense forest, then the name of this forest was Chaproh, which is now called Chintpurni. Due to exhaustion, Maidas ji's eyes fell and in the dream he had a vision of the divine stunning girl, who was telling him that Maidas! Make my pindi in the middle under this banyan tree and worship it, all your sorrows will go away. Maidas did not understand anything and went to his in-laws' house. While coming back from in-laws' house, Mai Das ji's steps stopped again at the same place. He did not see anything further, he again sat under the same banyan tree and started praising. He prayed to himself, 'O ​​Durga Maa! If I have worshiped you with a true heart, then give me darshan and order. On repeated remembrance, he had darshan of Singh Vahini Durga. Devi said that I have been sitting under that banyan tree since time immemorial. People have forgotten me because of the attacks and atrocities of the Yavanas. You are my supreme devotee, so stay here and worship me, I will protect your descendants.

Mai Das ji said that how will I worship you by staying here. Here there is neither potable water in the dense forest, nor a suitable place to live. Mother Durga said that I give you fearless charity that you go to any place and pick up any rock, water will come out from there. You worship me everyday with this water. Today there is a grand temple of Mother Chintpurni under this banyan tree, and that stone is also kept in the temple. Devotees make raw Mauli on the Vat tree for the fulfillment of their wishes. There is a circular pindi of the mother in the middle of the building, whose darshan is seen by the devotees in a queue. The place where the water came out, there is a beautiful pond. Even today, the mother is anointed by taking out water from the same place. The main gate of the temple is plated with gold. This main gate is used during Navratri. According to the Puranas, this place is situated in the middle of 4 Maharudra. There is Kaleshwar Mahadev on one side, Shivwadi on the other side, Narayan Mahadev, fourth and Muchkund Mahadev on the third side.

According to the Markandeya Purana, it is believed that after Sati Chandi's victory over all the wicked, two of her disciples Ajay and Vijay prayed to Sati to quench her thirst for blood. Hearing this, Sati Chandi had snatched her brain, hence the name of Sati was Chhinnamastika.

The beautiful view of nature is seen at this place. In the journey, the enchanting views captivate the mind of the travelers. By coming here, the devotees of the mother get spiritual bliss. Direct buses reach here from Hoshiarpur, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dharamsala, Shimla and many more places to reach Chintpurni. Fairs are held here 3 times in a year - first in Navratri of Chaitra month, second in Shravan month and third in Navratri of Ashwin month. There is a huge crowd of devotees during Navratri. There are many Dharamshalas in Chintpurni which are located near the bus stand, and some are located near the temple.
