अष्टविनायक में चौथे विनायक हैं श्री वरद विनायक। यह मंदिर महाराष्ट्र के रायगढ़ जिले के कोल्हापुर क्षेत्र में एक सुंदर पर्वतीय गांव है, महड़। इसी गांव में श्री वरद विनायक मंदिर स्थित है। यहां प्रचलित मान्यता के अनुसार वरद विनायक भक्तों की सभी कामनाओं को पूर्ण होने का वरदान प्रदान करते हैं। इस मंदिर में नंददीप नाम का एक दीपक है, जो 1892 से लगातार प्रज्वलित है। इस मंदिर में माघी चतुर्थी पर विशेष पूजा होती है। इसके अतिरिक्त भाद्रपद की गणेश चतुर्थी से लेकर अनंत चतुर्दशी तक विशेष उत्सव होता है, जिसे देखने भक्तों का हुजूम उमड़ता है।

किवदंती

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार प्राचीन काल में एक संतानहीन राजा थे। अपने दुख के निवारण के लिए वह ऋषि विश्वामित्र के शरण में गए। ऋषि ने उन्हें एकाक्षरी गणेश के मंत्र का जाप करने को कहा। राजा ने ऐसा ही किया और भक्ति भाव से गजानन की पूजा करते हुए उनके मंत्र का जाप किया। मंत्र के प्रभाव और गणपति के आशीर्वाद से उनका रुक्मांगद नाम का सुंदर पुत्र हुआ, जो अत्यंत धर्मनिष्ठ भी था। युवा होने पर एक बार शिकार के दौरान जंगल में घूमते हुए रूक्मांगद ऋषि वाचक्नवी के आश्रम में पहुंचा। यहां ऋषि की पत्नी मुकुंदा राजकुमार के पुरुषोचित सौंदर्य को देखकर उस पर मोहित हो गईं। धर्म के मार्ग पर चलने वाले रूक्मांगद को यह सही नहीं लगा, और तुरंत आश्रम से चला गया। दूसरी ओर ऋषि पत्नी उसके प्रेम में पागल जैसी हो गईं। उसकी अवस्था के बारे में जानकर देवराज इंद्र ने इसका लाभ उठाने के लिए खुद को रूक्मांगद का वेश धारण कर मुकुंदा से प्रेम संबंध बनाएं जिससे वह गर्भवती हो गई। कुछ समय बाद उसने ग्रिसमाद नामक पुत्र को जन्म दिया। युवा होने पर अपने जन्म की कहानी जानकर इस पुत्र ने मुकुंदा को श्राप दिया कि वह कांटेदार जंगली बेर की झाड़ी बन जाए। इस पर मुकुंदा ने भी अपने बेटे को श्राप दिया कि वह एक क्रूर राक्षस का पिता बनेगा। उसी समय एक आकाशवाणी से पता चला कि मुकुंदा की संतान का पिता वास्तव में इंद्र हैं। दोनों माता और पुत्र अत्यंत लज्जित हुए और मुकुंदा एक कांटेदार झाड़ियों में बदल गई, जबकि उसका पुत्र पुष्पक वन में जाकर श्री गणेश की तपस्या करने लगा। बाद में प्रसन्न हो गणेश जी ने उसे त्रिलोक विजयी संतान का पिता बनने और एक वर मांगने का आशीर्वाद दिया। तब ग्रिसमाद ने कहा कि वे स्वयं यहां विराजमान हों और भक्तों की मनोकामना पूर्ण करें। इसके बाद उसने भद्रका नाम के प्रसिद्ध स्थान पर मंदिर का निर्माण किया और श्री गणेश यहां वरदविनायक के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित हुए।

मंदिर का स्थापत्य

वर्तमान वरदविनायक मंदिर के बारे में कहा जाता है कि इसका निर्माण 1725 में सूबेदार रामजी महादेव बिवलकर ने करवाया था। मंदिर का परिसर सुंदर तालाब के एक किनारे बना हुआ है। यह पूर्वमुखी अष्टविनायक मंदिर पूरे महाराष्ट्र में काफी प्रसिद्ध है। यहां गणपति के साथ उनकी पत्नियां रिद्धि और सिद्धि की मूर्तियां भी स्थापित हैं। मंदिर के चारों तरफ 4 हाथियों की प्रतिमाएं बनाई गई हैं। मंदिर के ऊपर 25 फीट ऊंचा स्वर्ण शिखर निर्मित है। इसके नदी के तट के उत्तरी भाग पर गोमुख है और मंदिर के पश्चिम में एक पवित्र तालाब बना है। अष्टविनायक मंदिर के गर्भगृह में भी श्रद्धालुओं को जाने की अनुमति है।

Shri Varada Vinayaka is the fourth Vinayaka in Ashtavinayak. This temple is a beautiful hill village, Mahad in Kolhapur area of ​​Raigad district of Maharashtra. Shri Varad Vinayak Temple is situated in this village. According to the prevailing belief here, Varad Vinayak bestows the boon of fulfillment of all the wishes of the devotees. There is a lamp in this temple named Nanddeep, which is continuously lit since 1892. Special worship is done in this temple on Maghi Chaturthi. Apart from this, there is a special festival from Ganesh Chaturthi of Bhadrapada to Anant Chaturdashi, which attracts a large number of devotees.

Legend

According to the legend, there was a childless king in ancient times. He went to the shelter of sage Vishwamitra to get rid of his sorrow. The sage asked him to chant the mantra of Ekaakshari Ganesha. The king did the same and worshiped Gajanan with devotion and chanted his mantra. With the effect of the mantra and the blessings of Ganapati, he had a beautiful son named Rukmangad who was also very pious. Once when he was young, while roaming in the forest during a hunt, Rukmangad reached the hermitage of sage Vachknavi. Here Mukunda, the wife of the sage, was fascinated by the prince's manly beauty. Rukmangad, who followed the path of Dharma, did not like it, and immediately left the ashram. On the other hand the sage wife became madly in love with him. Knowing about her condition, Devraj Indra disguised himself as Rukmangad and made a love affair with Mukunda to take advantage of it, due to which she became pregnant. After some time she gave birth to a son named Grismad. Knowing the story of his birth when he was young, this son cursed Mukunda to become a thorny wild berry bush. On this Mukunda also cursed his son that he would become the father of a cruel demon. At the same time an Akashvani came to know that the father of Mukunda's child is actually Indra. Both mother and son were extremely ashamed and Mukunda turned into a thorn bush, while her son Pushpak went to the forest to do penance to Shri Ganesha. Later, being pleased, Ganesh ji blessed him to become the father of Trilok's victorious child and ask for a boon. Then Grismad said that he himself should sit here and fulfill the wishes of the devotees. After this he built the temple at the famous place named Bhadraka and Shri Ganesh was revered here as Varadvinayak.

Temple Architecture

It is said about the present Varadvinayak temple that it was built in 1725 by Subedar Ramji Mahadev Biwalkar. The temple complex is built on the bank of a beautiful pond. This Purva Mukhi Ashtavinayak Temple is quite famous all over Maharashtra. The idols of Ganapati along with his wives Riddhi and Siddhi are also installed here. There are statues of 4 elephants all around the temple. A 25 feet high golden peak is built on top of the temple. There is a Gomukh on the northern side of its river bank and a holy tank has been built to the west of the temple. Devotees are also allowed in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ashtavinayak temple.
