जल्दी बुलाकर लाओ

एक दिन की बात है। बादशाह अकबर सुबह सो कर उठे और एक सेवक को बुलवाकर अपनी दाढ़ी खुजलाते हुए बोले, "जाओ जल्दी बुला कर लाओ"

अकबर की बात सेवक के पल्ले ना पड़ी। किंतु उसमें इतना साहस नहीं था कि पलटकर अकबर से पूछ ले कि वह क्या चाहते हैं। आखिर किसे बुलाकर लाना है? वह "जी हुजूर" कहकर कक्ष के बाहर चला गया।

बाहर आ के उसने दूसरे सेवक को यह बात बताइ। वह भी उलझन में पड़ गया। सब इधर से उधर भाग दौड़ करने लगे और जो मिला उसे अकबर की कही बात का अर्थ पूछने लगे। लेकिन किसी को उस बात का अर्थ समझ नहीं आया।

आखिरकार वह सेवक दौड़ा-दौड़ा बीरबल के घर आया और पूरी बात बताते हुए बोला, "हुजूर, आप ही बादशाह सलामत की बात का मतलब बता सकते हैं। सब से पूछ चुका हूं। पर कोई इसका अर्थ समझ नहीं पा रहा है। अगर जल्दी बादशाह का हुक्म नहीं माना, तो मेरी खैर नहीं।"

बीरबल ने कुछ देर विचार किया। फिर सेवक से पूछा, "अच्छा यह बताओ, जब जहांपना ने तुम्हें यह हुक्म दिया, तब वह क्या कर रहे थे?"

"बादशाह सलामत सो कर उठे थे और बिस्तर पर बैठ कर अपनी दाढ़ी खुजला रहे थे।" सेवक सोचते हुए बोला।

बीरबल को पूरी बात समझते देर नहीं लगी और वह बोला, "हज्जाम को लेकर फॉरेन बादशाह सलामत के पास पहुंचो।"

सेवक ने वैसा ही किया और हज्जाम को लेकर अकबर के सामने हाजिर हो गया। अकबर हज्जाम को देखकर सोच में पड़ गए। - "मैंने तो सेवक को बताया ही नहीं था कि किसे बुलाना है। फिर यह हज्जाम को लेकर कैसे आ गया?"

उन्होंने सेवक से पूछा, "सच-सच बताओ, किसके कहने पर तुम हज्जाम को लेकर आए हो?"

घबराए सेवक ने बीरबल का नाम लिया और बोला कि बीरबल के सुझाव पर ही वह हज्जाम को लेकर हाजिर हुआ है। अकबर बीरबल की अकल मंदि से बहुत खुश हुए।
