देश की सबसे स्वच्छ नदी ~ मेघालय की उमंगोट नदी

मेघालय की उमंगोट नदी को देश की सबसे स्वच्छ नदी का रुतबा हासिल है। पानी इतना साफ है कि नावें कांच पर तैरती सी नजर आती हैं। 

भारत में अनेक नदियां हैं, लेकिन किस हाल में है यह हम सबको पता है। सरकार हर साल कोई ना कोई सफाई अभियान ले कर के आती है, हजारों करोड़ों रुपए खर्च हो जाते हैं, फिर भी नदियों की स्वच्छता में कोई अंतर नहीं आ पाता है, पानी मैला ही दिखता है। इसके लिए सरकार नहीं, हम खुद जिम्मेदार हैं। सीवेज का पानी, औद्योगिक- कारखानों के गंदे और जहरीले पानी और भी अनेक प्रकार के कूड़े - कचरे सभी नदियों में ही गिराए जाते हैं, जिससे उनका पानी गंदा होता रहता है। लेकिन इसके ठीक उलट देश में ही एक ऐसी जगह भी है, जहां नदी का पानी कांच की तरह एकदम साफ दिखाई देता है।

देश का उत्तर पूर्वी क्षेत्र हमेशा से ही लोगों को अपनी प्राकृतिक भव्यता से अचंभित करता आया है और प्रेरणा भी देता है कि कैसे हम अपने प्रकृति को संरक्षित कर पर्यावरण की रक्षा कर सकते हैं।हम बात कर रहे हैं मेघालय के उम्न्गोत नदी की।

इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि मेघालय एक ऐसा राज्य है जहां हमें एक के बाद एक आश्चर्य कर देने वाले क्षेत्र और चीजें दिखेंगी। उन्हीं में से एक क्षेत्र है डॉकी। नदियों को कैसे साफ रखा जाना चाहिए, यह हम सबको यहां के लोगों से सीखना चाहिए । उम्न्गोत नदी को देश की सबसे साफ नदी कहा जाता है। इस नदी के पानी में हम कांच की तरह आर-पार देख सकते हैं। पानी के नीचे का एक- एक पत्थर क्रिस्टल की तरह साफ-साफ दिखाई देता है । पानी में धूल का एक भी कण दिखाई नहीं देता मानो नाव किसी कांच के ऊपर तैर रही हो।

यह खूबसूरत नदी मेघालय की राजधानी शिलांग से 95 किलोमीटर दूर भारत-बांग्लादेश सीमा के पास स्थित पूर्वी जयंतिया हिल्स जिले के डॉकी कस्बे में बहती है। इस इलाके में रहने वाले खासी आदिवासी समुदायों के लोग इस नदी की हर दिन सफाई करते हैं। दरअसल, यह परंपरा पुरखों से चली आ रही है । लोगों का मानना है कि सफाई उनके संस्कार में है।

डॉकी चारों तरफ से घिरे हरे-भरे  पेड़-पौधों की हरियाली के वजह से जाना जाता है,और यह वास्तव में इस क्षेत्र का सबसे बड़ा वरदान है।उम्न्गोत नदी 3 गांव डौकी, दारंग और शेनान्गडेंग से होकर बहती है। इन 3 गांव में करीब 300 घर है, यह सभी मिलकर नदी की सफाई करते हैं। गंदगी करने वाले को ₹5000 तक का जुर्माना लगाया जाता है। हर महीने के तीन से चार दिन कम्युनिटी डे के होते हैं, इस दिन हर घर से कम से कम एक व्यक्ति नदी की सफाई के लिए आता है।

इतना अद्भुत नजारा भारत के किसी भी नदी का नहीं देखा जा सकता है। उम्न्गोत नदी का नजारा ही नहीं बल्कि उसके आसपास के गांव का भी दृश्य बहुत ही मनोरम और खूबसूरत है।उम्न्गोत नदी के पास के गांव मावलिननॉन्ग को एशिया का सबसे साफ गांव का दर्जा हासिल है। अंग्रेजों ने इस नदी पर 1932 में एक ब्रिज भी बनवाया है।

इस नदी की तुलना लोग स्वर्ग में बहने वाली नदी से भी करते हैं। नवंबर से अप्रैल तक यहां भारी संख्या में पर्यटक आते हैं। यहां बोटिंग का लुत्फ भी उठाया जा सकता है। यह नगर सिर्फ एक पर्यटक स्थल ही नहीं, बांग्लादेश पहुंचने का सबसे नजदीक रास्ता भी है। बांग्लादेश का बॉर्डर यहां से सिर्फ 2 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है।

डॉकी कई सालों से दोनों देशों के बीच एक व्यापारिक केंद्र होने का भी किरदार निभा रहा है। हर दिन सैकड़ों ट्रक इस कस्बे से होकर गुजरते हैं। डॉकी मुख्य रूप से कोयले और चुना पत्थरों के निर्यात के लिए भी जाना जाता है। यहां तक कि डॉकी एकलौता ऐसा क्षेत्र है जो बांग्लादेश से सड़क मार्ग द्वारा जुड़ा हुआ है।खेती और खनन के अलावा मछली पकड़ना यहां के मुख्य व्यवसाय में से एक है। 

डॉकी के बहुत सारे आकर्षक केंद्रों के बीच उम्न्गोत नदी ऐसी है जो लोगों का मन मोह लेती है और जो इस क्षेत्र की पहचान भी है।

 The Umangot River of Meghalaya enjoys the status of the cleanest river in the country. The water is so clear that the boats float on the glass.

 There are many rivers in India, but how do we know this. The government comes every year through some cleanliness drive, thousands of crores of rupees are spent, yet there is no difference in the cleanliness of the rivers, the water looks dirty. We are responsible for this, not the government. Sewage water, industrial - dirty and poisonous water of factories and many other types of garbage - wastes are dumped in all the rivers, due to which their water keeps getting dirty. But on the contrary, there is also a place in the country where the water of the river looks very clear like glass.

 The north eastern region of the country has always amazed people with its natural splendor and also inspires how we can protect our environment by preserving our nature. We are talking about Umngot river of Meghalaya.

 There is no doubt that Meghalaya is one such state where we will see astonishing areas and things. One of those areas is Docky. We all should learn from the people here how the rivers should be kept clean. Umngot river is called the cleanest river in the country. In the water of this river, we can see across it like glass. One underwater - a stone appears as crystal clear. Not a single particle of dust appears in the water as if the boat is floating on top of a glass.

 This beautiful river flows into Docky town of East Jaintia Hills district, located near the Indo-Bangladesh border, 95 km from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. People of Khasi tribal communities living in this area clean the river every day. Actually, this tradition has been going on since the ancestors. People believe that cleanliness is in their rites.

 Docky is known for its lush green vegetation surrounding it, and is indeed the biggest boon in the region. The Umngot River flows through 3 villages Douki, Darang and Shengdong. There are about 300 houses in these 3 villages, all of them together clean the river. The mess is fined up to ₹ 5000. Three to four days of every month are on community day, on this day at least one person comes from every house to clean the river.

 No such sight can be seen of any river in India. Not only the view of the Umngot river but also the view of the village around it is very panoramic and beautiful. Mawlinnong, a village near the Umngot river, has the status of the cleanest village in Asia. The British also built a bridge over this river in 1932.

 People also compare this river with the river flowing in heaven. A large number of tourists visit here from November to April. Boating can also be enjoyed here. The city is not only a tourist place but also the nearest way to reach Bangladesh. The border of Bangladesh is just 2 kilometers from here.

 Dockey has also been playing the role of being a trading center between the two countries for many years. Everyday hundreds of trucks pass through this town. Docky is also primarily known for exporting coal and chosen stones. Even Docky is the only area that is connected to Bangladesh by road. Apart from farming and mining, fishing is one of the main occupations here.

 Among the many attractive centers of Docky, the Umngot river is one that captivates the people and is also the identity of the region.
