 भारत विविधताओं का देश है। यहां हर चीज में विविधता है। यहां मौसम में विविधता है, धर्मों में विविधता है, संस्कृति में विविधता है और प्रकृति ने भी भारत को अनेकों प्रकार से सुसज्जित किया है। भारत सुंदर और प्राकृतिक दृश्यों से भरा पड़ा है। भारत में ऊंचे - ऊंचे पहाड़ हैं, जंगल हैं और 9.5% भाग जल का है, जोकि बहुत कम देशों में मौजूद है। भारत में प्राकृतिक सुंदरता की कोई भी कमी नहीं है।भारत के कुछ सबसे सुंदर प्राकृतिक स्थान पश्चिमी घाट के पर्वत, पूर्वी घाट के पर्वत, हिमालय के पर्वत और इन पर्वतों से निकलते खूबसूरत और मन को मोह लेने वाले झरने। यह झरने भारत की सुंदरता को और भी आकर्षक और मनमोहक बना देते हैं। इन्हीं खूबसूरती को बढ़ाता एक जलप्रपात जिसे कुंचिकल झरना कहते हैं।आज हम इसकी सुंदरता को जानते हैं।

कुंचिकल झरना भारत का सबसे प्रसिद्ध तथा सबसे ऊंचा जलप्रपात है। यह झरना कर्नाटक राज्य के शिमोगा जिला में निदागोडु नाम के जगह पर है। इस झरने की कुल ऊंचाई  वर्ल्डवाटरफॉल डेटाबेस के अनुसार 455 मीटर (1493 फिट) है। इस नदी में वाराणसी नदी मिलती है, जो कर्नाटक के जल विद्युत परियोजना का प्रमुख स्रोत है। इस नदी के साथ बहने वाली अन्य कई नदियां मानसून के दौरान यहां के कई झरनों के संग मिल जाती हैं। इसलिए मानसून में कुंचिकल झरने के आसपास और कई छोटे झरने बहते देखने को मिलता है। यह नजारा पर्यटकों को बहुत आकर्षित करता है। अतः यहां सैलानियों का जमावड़ा हमेशा लगा रहता है।

कुंचिकल झरने को स्थानीय लोग कुंचिकल अब्बे के नाम से भी जानते हैं। बेंगलुरु से यहां तक पहुंचने में लगभग 8 घंटे का सफर तय करना पड़ता है।

 Kunchikal Falls is the most famous and highest waterfall of India. This waterfall is in the place named Nidagodu in Shimoga district of Karnataka state. This river joins the Varanasi river, which is a major source of hydroelectric projects in Karnataka. Many other rivers flowing along this river merge with many waterfalls here during the monsoon.  The local waterfall is also known as Kunchikal Abbe. It takes about 8 hours to reach here from Bengaluru.
