इस बार 15 जनवरी, 2024 को भारत अपना 76वां सेना दिवस मनाने जा रहा है। भारतीय सेना दिवस, थल सेना द्वारा हर साल 15 जनवरी को मनाया जाता है। क्योंकि 15 जनवरी के दिन फील्ड मार्शल के. एम. करिअप्पा ने सेना प्रमुख के रूप में पदभार ग्रहण किया था एवं वह स्वतंत्र भारत के पहले भारतीय सेना अध्यक्ष थे। 

सेना दिवस के अवसर पर पूरा देश थल सेना की वीरता, अदम्य साहस और शौर्य की कुर्बानी की दास्ताँ को बयान करता है। जगह-जगह कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जाते हैं। दिल्ली में सेना मुख्यालय के साथ-साथ देश के कोने-कोने में शक्ति प्रदर्शन के साथ ही भारतीय सेना की मुख्य उपलब्धियों पर कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया जाता है।

15 जनवरी को ही क्यों मनाया जाता है सेना दिवस

15 अगस्त 1947 को जब भारत स्वतंत्र हुआ, तब देश भर में व्याप्त दंगे-फसादों तथा शरणार्थियों के आवागमन के कारण उथल-पुथल का माहौल था। इस कारण कई प्रशासनिक समस्याएं पैदा होने लगी और फिर स्थिति को नियंत्रित करने के लिए सेना को आगे आना पड़ा। इसके पश्चात एक विशेष सेना कमांड का गठन किया गया, ताकि विभाजन के दौरान शांति-व्यवस्था सुनिश्चित की जा सके, परन्तु भारतीय सेना के अध्यक्ष तब भी ब्रिटिश मूल के ही हुआ करते थे। 15 जनवरी 1949 को फील्ड मार्शल के एम करिअप्पा स्वतंत्र भारत के पहले भारतीय सेना प्रमुख बने थे। उस समय भारतीय सेना में लगभग 2 लाख सैनिक थे। उनसे पहले यह पद कमांडर जनरल रॉय फ्रांसिस बुचर के पास था। उसके बाद से ही प्रत्येक वर्ष 15 जनवरी को सेना दिवस मनाया जाता है। के. एम. करिअप्पा पहले ऐसे अधिकारी थे, जिन्हें फील्ड मार्शल की उपाधि दी गई थी। के एम करियप्पा का पूरा नाम कोडंडेरा मडप्पा करियप्पा था। उन्होंने साल 1947 में भारत-पाक युद्ध में भारतीय सेना का नेतृत्व किया था।

आजादी के बाद भारतीय सेना ने कई युद्ध लड़े हैं। इसके अलावा देश में अतंकवाद को जड़ से खत्म करने के लिए भी भारतीय सेना ने कई बड़े अभियानों को चलाया है। ऐसे में भारतीय सेना दिवस देश की स्वतंत्रता और अखंडता की सुरक्षा के लिए वीर सैनिकों की कुर्बानियों को याद करने का दिन है।

Why is Army Day celebrated only on 15 January?

When India became independent on 15 August 1947, there was an atmosphere of turmoil due to riots and movement of refugees across the country. Due to this, many administrative problems started arising and then the army had to come forward to control the situation. After this, a special army command was formed to ensure peace and order during partition, but even then the Chief of the Indian Army was of British origin. On 15 January 1949, Field Marshal KM Cariappa became the first Indian Army Chief of independent India. At that time there were about 2 lakh soldiers in the Indian Army. Before him, this post was held by Commander General Roy Francis Butcher. Since then, Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January. Of. M. Cariappa was the first officer to be given the title of Field Marshal. KM Cariappa's full name was Kodandera Madappa Cariappa. He led the Indian Army in the Indo-Pak war in 1947.

After independence, the Indian Army has fought many wars. Apart from this, the Indian Army has also launched many major operations to root out terrorism in the country. In such a situation, Indian Army Day is a day to remember the sacrifices of the brave soldiers to protect the independence and integrity of the country.
