सनातन धर्म में मंदिरों की परम्परा काफी पूरानी है। देश में लाखों करोड़ों मंदिर हैं, इन मंदिरों में कई मंदिर आज भी रहस्य बने हुए हैं। दरअसल इनका रहस्‍य आज भी लोगों और वैज्ञानिकों के लिए एक अनसुलझी पहेली है। इन्हीं में से एक है स्तम्भेश्वर महादेव मंदिर (Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple)।

अभी तक हम भगवान शिव के ऐसे मंदिरों को जानते हैं, जहां उनकी एक मूर्ती स्थापित है और श्रद्धालु उनकी सच्चे दिल से पूजा कर रहे हैं। लेकिन आज हम ऐसे मंदिर की चर्चा करेंगे, जहां भगवान शिव पूरे दिन में केवल दो बार दर्शन देने के लिए आते हैं और पूरा मंदिर फिर जलमग्न हो जाता है।

स्तम्भेश्वर महादेव मंदिर गुजरात की राजधानी गांधीनगर से लगभग 175 किमी दूर जंबूसर के कवि कंबोई गांव में मौजूद है। मंदिर 150 साल पुराना है, जो अरब सागर और खंभात की खाड़ी से घिरा हुआ है। सबसे पुराना मंदिर होने के होने के साथ स्तंभेश्वर महादेव मंदिर को 'गायब मंदिर' भी कहा जाता है। सावन के महीने में इस मंदिर में लोगों की भीड़ उमड़ पड़ती है। दूर-दूर से लोग महादेव के दर्शन करने के लिए यहां आते हैं।

स्तंभेश्वर महादेव मंदिर का निर्माण भगवान शिव के पुत्र कार्तिकेय ने अपने तपोबल से किया था। यह मंदिर समुद्र में स्थित है और रोज़ाना दो बार गायब हो जाता है। कई लोगों को मंदिर का गायब होना एक चमत्कार लगता है। इसके पीछे प्राकृतिक कारण है, दरअसल दिन भर में समुद्र का स्तर इतना बढ़ जाता है कि मंदिर पूरी तरह डूब जाता है। फिर कुछ ही पलों में समुद्र का स्तर घट जाता है और फिर मंदिर पुनः दिखाई देने लगता है। ऐसा हमेशा सुबह और शाम के समय होता है। मंदिर के गायब होने के पीछे लोग समुद्र द्वारा शिव का अभिषेक करना मानते हैं। यही नहीं श्रद्धालु भगवान शिव के इस मंदिर का नजारा लेने के लिए दूर-दूर से आते हैं।

मंदिर की पौराणिक कथा

इस मंदिर के निर्माण की कहानी का वर्णन स्कन्दपुराण में मिलता है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि ताड़कासुर ने भगवान शिव की काफी कठोर तपस्या की थी, जिससे भगवान भोलेनाथ प्रसन्न हो गए थे और असुर से मनचाहा वरदान मांगने को कहा। वरदान में असुर ने मांगा कि उस असुर को सिर्फ भगवान शिव का छह महीने का पुत्र ही मार पाए।

भगवान शिव से वरदान मिलते ही ताड़कासूर ने सब जगह आतंक फैला दिया और सभी देवी-देवताओं और ऋषि-मुनियों को परेशान करने लगा। असुर के आतंक से परेशान होकर सभी देवता और ऋषि-मुनि महादेव के पास पहुंचे और भोलेनाथ को सभी बात बताई। जिसके बाद कार्तिकेय ने ही मात्र 6 दिन की आयु में ताड़कासुर का वध किया। 

बाद में जब कार्तिकेय को ताड़कासुर के भगवान शंकर भक्त होने का पता चला तो वह काफी निराश हुए। भगवान विष्णु ने उन्हें सांत्वना दी- 'एक दुष्ट व्यक्ति को मारना, जो निर्दोष लोगों के खून पर अपना पोषण करता है, कोई पाप कर्म नहीं है। लेकिन, फिर भी यदि आप दोषी महसूस करते हैं तो अपने पाप का प्रायश्चित करने के लिए भगवान शिव की पूजा से बेहतर कोई तरीका नहीं है। शिवलिंग स्थापित करें और गहरी भक्ति के साथ उनकी पूजा करें।' इसके बाद ही सभी देवताओं ने मिलकर महिसागर संगम तीर्थ पर विश्वनन्दक स्तम्भ की स्थापना की, जिसे आज के समय में स्तम्भेश्वर तीर्थ के नाम से जाना जाता है।

Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple

The tradition of temples in Sanatan Dharma is very old. There are lakhs and crores of temples in the country, many of these temples remain a mystery even today. In fact, their mystery is still an unsolved puzzle for people and scientists. One of these is Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple.

Till now we know such temples of Lord Shiva, where his idol is installed and the devotees are worshiping him with true heart. But today we will discuss about such a temple, where Lord Shiva comes to give darshan only twice in the whole day and then the entire temple gets submerged.

Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple is located in Kavi Kamboi village of Jambusar, about 175 km from Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. The temple is 150 years old, surrounded by the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Khambhat. Apart from being the oldest temple, Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple is also called the 'Missing Temple'. In the month of Sawan, there is a huge crowd of people in this temple. People come here from far and wide to have darshan of Mahadev.

Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple was built by Lord Shiva's son Kartikeya with his spiritual power. This temple is located in the sea and disappears twice daily. Many people consider the disappearance of the temple a miracle. There is a natural reason behind this, in fact the sea level increases so much throughout the day that the temple gets completely submerged. Then within a few moments the sea level decreases and the temple becomes visible again. This always happens in the morning and evening. People believe that the reason behind the disappearance of the temple is the consecration of Shiva by the sea. Not only this, devotees come from far and wide to see this temple of Lord Shiva.

Legend of the temple

The story of construction of this temple is described in Skandapuran. It is said that Tarakasura had performed very rigorous penance for Lord Shiva, due to which Lord Bholenath was pleased and asked the demon to ask for the desired boon. In the boon, the demon asked that only the six-month-old son of Lord Shiva could kill that demon.

As soon as he got the boon from Lord Shiva, Tadkasur spread terror everywhere and started harassing all the gods, goddesses and sages. Troubled by the terror of the demon, all the gods and sages reached Mahadev and told everything to Bholenath. After which Kartikeya himself killed Tadkasur at the age of just 6 days.

Later, when Kartikeya came to know that Tarakasura was a devotee of Lord Shankar, he was quite disappointed. Lord Vishnu consoled him- 'Killing an evil person, who nourishes himself on the blood of innocent people, is not a sinful act. But, still if you feel guilty then there is no better way to atone for your sin than worshiping Lord Shiva. Install Shivalinga and worship it with deep devotion. Only after this, all the gods together established the Vishwanandak Stambh at Mahisagar Sangam Teerth, which is today known as Stambheshwar Teerth.
