रामास्वामी मंदिर दक्षिणी अयोध्या के रूप में जाना जाने वाला मंदिर है, जो भगवान विष्णु के अवतार भगवान राम को समर्पित है, जिसका निर्माण 16 वीं शताब्दी के दौरान किया गया था। रामास्वामी मंदिर भारत के तमिलनाडु के कुंभकोणम में स्थित है। यह शहर के प्रमुख मंदिरों में से एक है और भारत में राम को समर्पित सबसे प्रमुख मंदिरों में से एक है। इस मंदिर की गिनती कावेरी नदी के तट पर स्थित मंदिर में भी होती है।

यह मंदिर तंजावुर नायक राजा अच्युतप्पा नायक (1560-1614) के शासनकाल के दौरान बनाना शुरू किया गया था और रघुनाथ नायक (1600-34) के शासनकाल के दौरान पूरा हुआ। 

इस तंजावुर मंदिर में मंदिर वास्तुकला की एक विशिष्ट नायक शैली है। एक त्रि-स्तरीय गोपुरम (मुख्य प्रवेश द्वार) दीवारों के भीतर घिरा हुआ है। एक ही पत्थर से तराशे गए, 64 उत्कृष्ट स्तंभों में से प्रत्येक महाकाव्य रामायण के विभिन्न दृश्यों को दर्शाता है। मंदिर में कुछ प्रसिद्ध पत्थर की नक्काशी और 219 दीवार पेंटिंग हैं, जो महान महाकाव्य रामायण की घटनाओं की श्रृंखला की व्याख्या करती हैं। गर्भगृह में राम अपनी पत्नी सीता के साथ विराजमान हैं। साथ में खड़े हैं उनके भाई – लक्ष्मण, भरत और चतुरगुण, जबकि हनुमान पूजा कर रहे हैं। 

यह एकमात्र मंदिर है, जहां भरत और शत्रुघ्न और हनुमान के साथ राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण की मूर्तियां स्थापित हैं। पीठासीन देवता, राम और सीता अपनी विवाह मुद्रा में दिखाई देते हैं। भगवान श्री राम अपनी पत्नी और अपने सभी भाइयों के साथ अपने भक्तों को आशीर्वाद देते हुए दिखाई देते हैं, जबकि भगवान हनुमान जो आम तौर पर अन्य सभी मंदिरों में एक गदा लेकर चलते हैं, उन्हें यहां वीणा (दक्षिण भारतीय वीणा जैसा वाद्य यंत्र) पकड़े हुए देखा जाता है। यहां रामनवमी का त्यौहार बड़ी धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है। रामास्वामी मंदिर भी उन पांच विष्णु मंदिरों में से एक है, जो महामाहम उत्सव से जुड़े हैं। 

यह मंदिर कावेरी नदी के तट पर बने मंदिरों में गिना जाता है। विष्णु के पांच मंदिर महामहम उत्सव से जुड़े हुए हैं जो कुंभकोणम में हर 12 साल में एक बार होता है। ये पांच मंदिर मिलकर 108 विष्णु मंदिरों में से एक, दिव्य देशम बनाते हैं। वे हैं सारंगपानी मंदिर , चक्रपाणि मंदिर , रामास्वामी मंदिर, राजगोपालस्वामी मंदिर और वराहपेरुमल मंदिर।

Ramaswamy Temple, Tamil Nadu

Ramaswamy Temple is a temple in southern Ayodhya known as Ayodhya, dedicated to Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, which was constructed during the 16th century. Ramaswamy Temple is located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the major temples in the city and one of the most prominent temples dedicated to Rama in India. This temple is also counted among the temples situated on the banks of river Kaveri.

This temple was started to be built during the reign of Thanjavur Nayak king Achyutappa Nayak (1560–1614) and completed during the reign of Raghunatha Nayak (1600–34).

This Thanjavur temple has a typical Nayak style of temple architecture. A three-tiered gopuram (main gateway) is enclosed within the walls. Carved from a single stone, each of the 64 exquisite pillars depicts a different scene from the epic Ramayana. The temple has some famous stone carvings and 219 wall paintings, which narrate a series of events from the great epic Ramayana. Ram is seated in the sanctum sanctorum with his wife Sita. Standing nearby are his brothers – Lakshman, Bharat and Chaturgun, while Hanuman is performing the puja.

This is the only temple where the idols of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana along with Bharatha, Shatrughan and Hanuman are installed. The presiding deities, Rama and Sita, are seen in their marriage posture. Lord Shri Ram is seen with his wife and all his brothers blessing his devotees, while Lord Hanuman who usually carries a mace in all other temples is seen here holding a veena (a South Indian veena-like instrument). Is seen to have happened. Here the festival of Ram Navami is celebrated with great pomp. Ramaswami temple is also one of the five Vishnu temples associated with the Mahamaham festival.

This temple is counted among the temples built on the banks of river Kaveri. Five temples of Vishnu are associated with the Mahamaham festival which takes place once every 12 years in Kumbakonam. These five temples together form Divya Desam, one of the 108 Vishnu temples. They are Sarangapani Temple, Chakrapani Temple, Ramaswamy Temple, Rajagopalaswamy Temple and Varahaperumal Temple.
