ईमानदारी का पथ क़भी न छोड़ना

ईमानदारी से बड़ी कोई पूंजी नहीं होती है, यह देवगुण है तथा जिस व्यक्ति के चरित्र में ईमान का गुण होता है वह न केवल सुख के साथ जीवन बिताता है, बल्कि लोग भी उसका सम्मान और अनुसरण करते हैं। आज की दुनियां में ईमानदारी की राह पर चलकर सारे साधन पाए जा सकते हैं, मगर इन साधनों से ईमानदारी को पाना असम्भव है। हमें भीड़ में विशेष बन कर अपनी ऑनेस्टी को अपनी पहचान बनानी चाहिए। आज का प्रसंग इसी पर है यानी एक सच्चा ईमानदार धर्मनिष्ठ व्यक्ति। 

नरोत्तम सेठ ने आज कहीं व्यस्त होने के कारण ईंट भट्टे पर फिर अपने बेटे को ही भेजा था। बेटे का मन क़भी भी भट्टा पर नहीं लगता, जिसके कारण वह अक्सर ग्राहकों से उलझ जाता था, जबकि नरोत्तम सेठ चाहते थे कि अब वह अपना अधिक से अधिक समय भट्टे पर दे, जिससे वो अपने पुस्तैनी व्यवसाय में दक्ष हो सके।

अभी उनका बेटा आकर अपने केबिन में बैठा ही था कि मुनीम आ गया - "भईया जी एक बुजुर्ग फटी-पुरानी पर्ची लेकर आया है और दस हजार ईंट मांग रहा है।"

बेटे ने पूछा - "क्या मतलब?

मुनीम ने कहा - "कह रहा है कि सन उन्नीस सौ अड़सठ में पन्द्रह रुपया हजार के भाव से उसने दस हजार ईंट का दाम एक सौ पचास रुपया जमा किए थे जो आज लेने आया है।"

बेटे ने कहा - "दिमाग खराब है उसका। आज दस हजार ईंट की कीमत अस्सी हजार है, एक सौ पचास रुपये में कैसे दे देंगे, भगा दो उसको यहां से।"

मुनीम ने कहा - "पर बड़े बाबूजी के हाथ की दस्तख़त की हुई रसीद है उसके पास है।"

"तो क्या हुआ? तब क्यों नहीं ले गये थे। अब जब ईंट का मूल्य आठ हजार रुपये प्रति हजार है तब ये पन्द्रह रुपये के भाव से ले जाएंगे। "

सेठ का लड़का अभी मुंशी और बुजुर्ग को डाट ही रहा था कि नरोत्तम सेठ स्वयं आ गये। देखा, बेटा फिर आज किसी से उलझा हुआ है। कारण पूछने पर बेटे ने वह मुड़ी तुड़ी पर्ची सेठ को पकड़ा दी।

सेठ पर्ची को देखते ही चौंक गये। अब बुजुर्ग की तरफ ध्यान से देखा और पहचानते ही मुस्करा पड़े। "धनीराम कहां गायब हो गये थे भाई, पैसा जमा करके? मैने तब कितनी प्रतीक्षा की थी आपकी? खैर, अब ले जाओ, दस हजार आपकी ईंट तो मेरे पास है ।"

"पर पापा, अस्सी हजार की ईंट एक सौ पचास रुपये में कैसे संभव है ?" बेटे ने कहा।

सेठ ने कहा - "बेटा जब इन्होंने पैसा जमा किया था तब वही भाव था। सन अड़सठ से इनका भी एक सौ पचास रुपया इस ईंट भट्ठा में लगा हुआ है और उससे पैसा कमाया है, जिसके कारण हम अपने इस व्यवसाय को इतना बढ़ा सके। उस एक सौ पचास रुपये की पूंजी का लाभ लगातार सन अडसठ से हम खा भी तो रहे हैं।

ये मेरे हाथ की रसीद हैं। मुझे याद है तब मैंने अपने पिताजी के साथ इस भट्ठा पर आना शुरू किया था। यह मेरी ही उम्र के हैं शायद। जब मैंने यह रसीद काट कर इन्हें दी थी तो इन्होंने हंसकर कहा था - 'अगर रसीद गायब हो गयी तो क्या होगा? तब मेरे पिताजी ने जो जवाब दिया था वह मुझे आज भी याद है।"

पिताजी ने कहा था कि अगर मेरे जीवन काल में आ गये तो रसीद न भी लाओगे तब भी आपका पैसा मुझ पर रहेगा। ईंट आपको मिलेगी क्योंकि मुझे आपका चेहरा याद है, लेकिन जहां तक रसीद की बात है तो अगर आप इसे रखे रह गये तो मेरे न रहने के बाद भी आपको ईंटें मिलेंगी क्योंकि बेईमानी न मुझमें है और न ही मेरे संस्कार व खून में ।"

इतना कहकर सेठ ने दस हजार ईंट बुजुर्ग के यहाँ पहुंचाने के लिए मुंशी को आदेशित कर दिया औऱ अपने बेटे के कंधे पर अपना हाथ रखकर बोला - "बेटा, तुम्हारे साथ परिस्थितियां चाहे कितनी भी प्रतिकूल हों लेकिन ईमानदारी का पथ क़भी न छोड़ना। व्यापार ईमानदारी और पक्की जुबान से फलता फूलता है। छल से कमाई लक्ष्मी ज्यादा दिन नहीं ठहरती।"

There is no capital greater than honesty, it is a divine quality and the person who has the quality of honesty in his character not only lives happily, but people also respect and follow him. In today's world all means can be found by following the path of honesty, but it is impossible to get honesty through these means. We should make our honesty our identity by being special in the crowd. Today's context is on this i.e. a true honest devout man .

Narottam Seth had again sent his son to the brick kiln due to being busy today. The son's mind was never on the kiln, due to which he often got confused with the customers, whereas Narottam Seth wanted him to devote more and more time to the kiln so that he could be proficient in his bookkeeping business.

Just now his son came and was sitting in his cabin when the accountant came - "Brother, an old man has brought a torn slip and is asking for ten thousand bricks."

The son asked - "What do you mean?

The accountant said - "He is saying that in the year 1968, at the rate of fifteen thousand rupees, he had deposited one hundred and fifty rupees for ten thousand bricks, which he has come to collect today."

The son said - "He has a bad mind. Today the price of ten thousand bricks is eighty thousand, how will he give it for one hundred and fifty rupees, drive him away from here."

The accountant said - "But he has the receipt signed by Bade Babuji."

"So what happened? Why were you not taken then. Now when the price of a brick is eight thousand rupees per thousand, then it will be taken at the rate of fifteen rupees."

Seth's son was still scolding the scribe and the old man when Narottam Seth himself came. See, son is again entangled with someone today. On asking the reason, the son handed over the twisted slip to Seth.

Seth was shocked to see the slip. Now looked at the old man carefully and smiled upon recognition. "Where did Dhaniram disappear brother, after depositing the money? How long did I wait for you then? Well, now take it, I have ten thousand of your bricks."

"But father, how is a brick worth eighty thousand possible for one hundred and fifty rupees?" The son said.

Seth said - "Son, when he had deposited the money, then it was the same price. Since the year 68, his one hundred and fifty rupees is also engaged in this brick kiln and has earned money from it, due to which we could increase this business of ours so much. We have been reaping the benefits of that one hundred and fifty rupees capital continuously since the year sixty eight.

These are the receipts in my hand. I remember then I started coming to this kiln with my father. He is probably of my age. When I cut this receipt and gave it to him, he laughed and said - 'What will happen if the receipt disappears? I still remember the answer my father gave then.

Father had said that if you come in my lifetime, even if you do not bring the receipt, your money will be on me. You will get the brick because I remember your face, but as far as the receipt is concerned, if you keep it, you will get the bricks even after I am gone, because dishonesty is neither in me nor in my values and blood.

Saying this, Seth ordered the scribe to deliver ten thousand bricks to the old man and put his hand on his son's shoulder and said - "Son, no matter how adverse the circumstances are with you, never leave the path of honesty. Business thrives on honesty and a firm tongue. Lakshmi earned by deceit does not last long."
